On average, I only get one tricky research question each year, so I use NATP research group. Every year I get a free question with my membership. I belonged to another association and I posted a question and the answer I got was not accurate. I wrote them back and they corrected. The following year, I didn't renew my membership and I stayed only with NATP. So far the answers I have gotten have been accurate. www.natptax.com

Liability issues in checking a tax return
Pacun replied to Naveen Mohan from New York's topic in General Chat
Naveen, I thought Turbo Tax dictated what it is charged to the client. I started enrolling in the program and I was under the impression that they will charge the client and the preparer will get a percentage. Since I charge a low price, I figured the percentage I was going to get from Turbo was going to be higher than what I charge. I am hesitant to continue my enrollment but I will see. -
That's correct. Mexico and Canada have a tax treaty with the US and people living in Mexico and Canada can be claimed as dependents. The original poster didn't say if the parents were in Mexico or Canada.

how about a sonorous no.

I have read that if your employer has a health insurance plan but if that plan costs more than 9.5 of your salary, you can apply for coverage on the Exchange. Can someone elaborate on that? You pay 95 per adult if you don't have insurance or 1% (if higher) if your salary (after your filing requirement). Let's say a family of 4 (ages 19, 21, 50 and 50) at what point is the break even point? Meaning at what point the penalty is $95 using the 1%) Also, The same family of 4, at what level of income they are exempt from having insurance. (I know this is based on county of residence) So if someone know one of the lowest and one of the highest counties, please share. Are we really ready for this tax season?

I have three people that don't bring their paper in time. I wrote down a document stating: I will charge X if you bring your documents by Saint Valentines day. I will charge X*1.5 if you bring it by march 15th, I will charge you X*2 if you bring it by March 31st. If you bring them in April or after, I won't be able to do your taxes. I signed the document and kept a copy for my records. I will see how much they want to pay and how eager they want to leave. Of course, I didn't send or show this letter to everybody because most people bring their stuff in time.

Pita clients are not my friends and I would not ask for opinions to fire them. If she is asking for opinions, it is because she is not a PITA. Let me add this: Pita clients will be fired as being my friends and in a couple of years they will be fired as my clients.

Certifying Agents can only attest that the saw the original passports for tax payers by sending only a copy of the passport. Dependents must send the original passports. No walking service anymore for the IRS so you won't be able to take the passports to the local IRS office. So you have two choices, make good copies of visas and passports and send the originals. Your clients can also take the passports to their embassies or consulates to get an authenticated copy of the passports. The easiest is to send the passports and if they get lost, request a new one. Losing a document doesn't change your status, which means, let's say that the passport and visa are lost on the mail, you can request another visa and passport without losing any status. I have been in this country for a long time and I have never been asked for my passport or immigration papers on my daily routine. I remember the first time in 1987 when I got a work permit, I had that document with me for two years just to realized that I never used it. So I put it away and now I don't carry anything other than my bank card and driver's license. Tell you client to send those passports and keep copies!!!!!

I would not fire this client. Keep in mind that you already have the software, the hardware and the knowledge, 90% of that little money goes to the bottom line. In the future, choose your friends carefully without those two disadvantages. So you have to consider your opportunity cost and if you are not losing a new client in order to keep her, you might not have any opportunity cost.
-
I would go with option 1 since option 2 leaves an aroma.

That update has been ready since last year. As a matter of fact they had two versions of the software, one with the extenders and another without the extenders.
-
MAS took the class and found it interesting
-
I couldn't find what was extended. I guess tomorrow I will have a bunch of info.

They mention the per diem but I guess they didn't use it for the calculation. If they used per diem, then only the miles were thrown.

Thank you for the explanation. I am glad it is over.

I guess ATX wants to keep spammers away of their forum and that's why they restrict access to ONLY their current clients. I never use their forum anyways.

This reminded me of the famous message loop: NTLDR is missing Press any key to restart. AND the one people got when DOS was the operating system. People would call me to their desks and I would just pull out the floppy disk and computer would start without any issues. I agree with Jack, I never install from the CD or DVD.

Michael, I do believe you will come back to ATX because after all the issues they had a couple of years ago, I predict that future releases of ATX will be robust. I do believe that Pro Series is a better product for some users but they also pay extra. As I said before, I have had no issues with ATX but after reading some posts and seeing that people have lost revenue, Pro Series is a good product even though is more expensive, it might be worth it. If this year is great for ATX, I can see a lot of people coming back. Time will tell.

I have a question, when I report someone, who gets the message? I sent like three reports as soon as I saw the spam and I wonder who got it and if there is an easy way of doing it.
-
This could not be an ATX issue so please export it to C:temp and see what happens, if you still have issue then it could be an ATX problem. Make sure that the temp folder exists.

After reading it a second time, it is funny.... what I meant was that if you are behind in getting your credits, that website will be your best friend because it is inexpensive and the exams are not tricky which can be passed without studying the material. About 3 years ago I went to my country and on December 30 and Dec 31st, I passed several courses and I was happy that I could do that. BUT that one course about ACA in the real world is very informative and they pull out form 1040 and the new forms.
-
I think we need it now to have post quesstions and solutions. I am ready to put some questions now and I know some people have the answers. I like to give credit to whomever deserves credit. If you want to get your CPE credits without learning a lot, go to www.apluscpe.com and the credits are not expensive BUT there is one course called "Affordable Care Act in the Real World" which is EXCELLENT and you should buy it. This course is a video course and it is for Tax Preparers. They have about 3 other courses regarding ACA but this one is the best and I recommend it.

don't be so sensitive, we appreciate your inputs but other people also have other ideas. That's the beauty of this forum. WE APPRECIATE everybody's input.
-
An ACA forum might be in order. This year will be the worst so i have been taking some classes and seminars. I wonder how hard it will be to get the information from our clients. Also, not many people will be able to file before Jan 31st. So your income influx will be delayed this year if you had clients in January.

Not my intention but maybe I could. I have a bachelor's degree in Computer Information System and another one in Accounting. I stopped half way on my master in computer information but... How about these certfications under my belt (without mentioning what I do for a living). A+ N+ MCP MCP + I MSCE and Enrolled Agent.
