  1. I was in the six item express lane at the store quietly fuming. Completely ignoring the sign, the woman ahead of me had slipped into the check-out line pushing a cart piled high with Christmas presents. Imagine my delight when the cashier beckoned the woman to come forward looked into the cart and asked sweetly, "So which six items would you like to buy?" Wouldn't it be great if that happened more often?
  2. Thanks. Guess I am ready for Christmas....need the time off.
  3. That's right. The government will tell us right away that the website is hacked and those that hack it (illegally, I suspect) will be right up there confessing to their illegal act. I do understand the purge issue, however, with the "back end" not completed yet, the question remains when will the purging take place...one, two, three months or more down the road. I am looking for facts but am not sure that I see any hard data in your posting. (For that matter, mine is also supposition.)
  4. The article I read indicated only about 2000 were in the US. I hope that is the case. Again it demonstrates the necessity of website security and vigilance.
  5. I may be looking in the wrong places, however, as far as I can determine, direct deposit is not an option with a 1040X. Is that correct?
  6. It sounds like you do this often. If that is the case, with the power, convenience and versatility of the laptop, you may want to consider working off the laptop and use the desktop as a backup system.
  7. While I lean against the hiring in question, I appreciate the professional and personal ethics of CPAs like Jack and others that have gone down this road. A note to consider is that if this hire is to attract clients you are not currently able to service, what have you lost. For this concern only let him work those clients. You might also want to check with an attorney on a way an agreement could be codified to protect you and the CPA. You may also want to consider hands on followup. Many individuals think appreciate a contact with the "boss." So followup after the service is rendered and others, such as birthdays, Christmas, etc could help the client identify with your practice instead of only focusing on the employee (CPA).
  8. When I installed XI, it would not let me keep the older copy of Acrobat.
  9. Jeez. So much for the help that provided for my niche practice. Thanks for the response.
  10. I used a template in the 2011 tax program. I just noticed there is not template provision in the 2012 program. Am I missing something?
  11. I have not done that. I would also be interested in samples, dates or ideas. Please send to [email protected].
  12. I use mixed case for everything.
  13. Per the article in the OP. They also provided a document they said was a Visa bill, which appears to indicate their card was charged for the meal plus the tip, for a total of $111.55.
  14. The article indicated that the tip was on the purported charge statement.
  15. It is interesting to note that of the 34 countries that "have figured out" uiversal health care, only 9 have an insurance mandate. Looks like even those "advanced" countries that have it all figured out, have figured out that an insurance mandate is not the best way to go.
  16. I am not sure that I would agree with your statement here. One of the few expenses the fast food and retail stores can control (to some extent) is payroll. When I was in that industry (for about 10 years) I was always looking forward to known increases in expenses to see how to adjust for them. I had to either absorb them or consider price increases to maintain my profit goals. Cliintonomics is not always an option.
  17. Thanks for all the responses. I have a couple of leads through this to see if I can get this need met. Again, thank you for all the good input.
  18. Interesting. I could not tell if this allows you to actually conver the .pdf Tax Organizer to a fillable doc that can be e-mail, filled out by somebody else with the .pdf reader and then saved and returned. Have you done this?
  19. KC, thanks for the info. I have run across the ones that you have mentioned. I do ont have the Adobe XI, mine is 8. The other programs have trouble handling the boxes. You can fill them in and they are do some rearranging of the text. I may spring for the Adobe, but want to see what is out there first. Lion, I have CutePdf but it does not make from .pdf
  20. I agree. My practice is totally Internet based..It is a small practice, will do about 250-270 returns this year (still working on some), however, I have only seen two people face-to-face. My phone log only shows about 12 to 18 calls, somewhere in that area. Now, it does take time to handle 30-50 e-mails a day, but it is a lot more efficient. Also, with e-mail at the chief means of contact, i can do those at any time fo day or night, and the client can respond at any time of day or night. This also forces most docs to come in as e-mail attachents. I think I receive paper docs in the mail for only about 25 people. Of course, all my clients us the ATX Tax Organizer.
