  1. Now, is there a way to set my program so the next years depreciation detail prints for EVERY 4562 without my having to tell it each time? It seems as if there used to be, but I can't remember how.

Eric, That doesn't seem to be it. It appears that the error is specific to the Mountain time zone only.
  3. You can ask the title co to reissue as 1099-misc. But regardless of whether they reissue or not, the income belongs on Sch C, not Sch D.

but, if anybody else but me cares, the Mountain Time Zone setting is one hour off
  5. I don't understand. Last year the letter said the return had been efiled, but this year it say the return will be efiled after the 8879 is signed and returned. What do you think needs to be changed?
  6. This is nuts! In this small town, 80% of my clients (including me) receive their mail in a PO Box at the post office. If I changed my address to the physical location, USPS will not deliver it. What's the deal?
  7. Thanks RJM! I managed to create the e-files, thanks to your instructions. I'll hold them until I hear that the Acks are flowing.
  8. But how do you create the 1099-misc e-file? I can't find the e-file info form or whatever it takes?
  9. Byron, Not quite! I got Adobe free with my scanner. So, I had access to both, and was told it DID make a difference in file size. I just meant that as supporting whoever talked about the file size difference between PDF programs.
  10. I know I was told in a technology seminar a number of years ago to use Adobe rather than PDF Factory for the same reason (smaller file size in Adobe).
  11. I figured out that the program will crash and close if I try to include a form in the print queu (sp) that's not approved for filing yet, for example, the Montana Estimated tax vouchers. Maybe that's your problem.
  12. Actually, it's already unprotected when you open it to modify the master. Just: 1. Click the Forms tab 2. Click on Modify Masters 3. Select the 1040 and open it. (It will already be unprotected, you don't have to do anything - just make your changes)
  13. Karen, The Alzheimers Association website has some good info on this. They say in order to claim these expenses, you need two pieces of documentation. One is a certification from a licensed health care professional that the person is chronically ill, the other is a copy of the plan of care from the facility. I am cutting and pasting the a sample certification below: CERTIFICATION OF CHRONICALLY ILL INDIVIDUAL UNDER INTERNAL REVENUE CODE §7702B The undersigned certifies that he or she is a licensed health care practitioner as defined in IRC §7702B©(4) (that is a physician (as defined in §1861® of the Social Security Act), a registered professional nurse, or a licensed social worker). The undersigned certifies that _______________________ is a chronically ill individual because she meets one of the following two tests: Activities of Daily Living Test. She is unable to perform at least two of the activities of daily living (ADLs), eating, toileting, transferring, bathing, dressing, and continence without substantial assistance from another individual and has been or will be unable to perform such ADLs without such assistance for a period of at least 90 days due to a loss of functional capacity. I understand that (1) “Substantial assistance” means hands-on assistance and standby assistance; (2) “Hands-on assistance” means the physical assistance of another person without which the individual would be unable to perform the ADL; (3) “Standby assistance” means the presence of another person within arm’s reach of the individual that is necessary to prevent, by physical intervention, injury to the individual while the individual is performing the ADL (such as being ready to catch the individual if the individual falls while getting into or out of the bathtub or shower as part of bathing, or being ready to remove food from the individual’s throat if the individual chokes while eating). Cognitive Impairment Test. She requires substantial supervision to protect herself from threats to health and safety due to severe cognitive impairment. I understand that (1) “Severe cognitive impairment” means a loss or deterioration in intellectual capacity that is (a) comparable to (and includes) Alzheimer’s disease and similar forms of irreversible dementia, and ( measured by clinical evidence and standardized tests that reliably measure impairment in the individual’s (i) short-term or long-term memory, (ii) orientation as to people, places, or time, and (iii) deductive or abstract reasoning, and that (2) “Substantial supervision” means continual supervision (which may include cuing by verbal prompting, gestures, or other demonstrations) by another person that is necessary to protect the severely cognitively impaired individual from threats to his or her health or safety (such as may result from wandering). ________________________________________ ______________________ Signature Date Title
  14. You need to modify the master form as follows: 1. Unprotect the master 1040 form. 2. On the signature line, change the font to Script, Bold, Italic, 16pt. 3. Save the modified master. On all returns that you haven't rolled over yet, the signature will show up in script when you roll them over.
  15. Well, I just got a very nice email back from formspipeline saying that they will release it in the next few days. So, I was impressed with the speed of the response I got through the suggestion box.
  16. I just talked with tech support. They say that the MT efile info form will be released tomorrow, but that the MT Form W is not even going into DEVELOPMENT until NEXT WEEK! As you Montana preparers know, we can't prepare any return, paper or electronic without the Form W. What were they thinking? Please write and ask them to move it up the development schedule. I just did.
  17. When you are modifying the master of the client letter, click on letter wizard. Click thru the "next"s until you start seeing left and right arrow buttons in the upper right hand corner of the wizard window. On any screen with the arrows, use these to scroll thru the different paragraphs available in each section of the letter.
  18. Here's something to consider. Going to the Tax Wise announcement of CCH takeover, it states there are 9,300 TaxWise users. Going to the ATX announcement of CCH takeover, it states there are 30,000 ATX users. I would think they would support whichever program garners the larger following. It seems to me that if we want ATX to continue and not be forced into using TaxWise instead, we might be better served to try to solve our problems with CCH and promote the ATX program, rather than jumping ship. I don't know, the idea of changing to different software (again) doesn't do much for me. I'm willing to see what I can do to make the organizer workable ( my biggest complaint so far this year), and to see if they can work out their support system problems.
  19. Danielle, Unfortunately, your tips about changing the print range did not work for me. Oh well, back to the copy machine. Thanks for trying to help.
  20. I find it interesting that one of the newest members (Dec 31) is named Glynn. Could this be our founder?
  21. Yes, the client does have Sch C with vehicle expenses. The vehicle information page prints, I just can't figure out how to get the lines I added to print. I imagine it's something to do with changing the print range, but I can't figure out how to do it. I ran into the same problem in past years when I tried to number the pages. It sure makes it a lot easier to discuss the organizer over the phone with clients who have questions if you can refer to a page number.
  22. I'm just starting to work on my organizers, so I can't yet answer your question. I have one to add to yours though. On the Sch C Vehicle Information page, I added a statement and signature line on the bottom of the page (on lines 47, 48, and 49. It shows up on the screen, but not when I print the page. How can I get it to print?

  24. And one of the best tips I ever got regarding the George Forman-type grill (mine is a small cheap copy), after use, unplug, wet a paper towel, and insert it into the grill for a few minutes. Any stuck on residue will steam right off, making cleanup just a matter of wiping it off with the paper towel.
  25. I just hooked up a new HP Laserjet 3050 all-in-one to my system here at the office where I have an answering machine built into my phone. I had someone send me a fax while the answering machine was turned on. It automatically switched to the fax machine. So far, so good! I'm going to love not having to turn on the fax board in my computer everytime I get a fax.
