    The Tax Book

Isn't the Tax Book put out by folks who used to work for Quickfinders?
  2. Thanks John, I should have included the link.
  3. This is a great deal for new customers. From now until December 31, you can save 50 percent on Carbonite's subscription plans. That means you can get one year for $27.47, two years for $49.97, or three years for $64.97 (definitely the best deal). To take advantage of the offer, just sign up for a new Carbonite account and use coupon code CUST50.
  4. I received it also and I use ProSeries. Weird.
  5. I think I have to agree with taxbilly on this one.
  6. I tried Googling in general and also searched the IRS site and couldn't find anything allowing this deduction. (I sure was curious though.)
  7. This is unreal. http://tinyurl.com/yc8j4sq

    Forum Upgrade

    This looks fantastic! Thank you.
  9. Weird! I did not post this on Oct. 12. I was sound asleep by 10:48 pm.
  10. Um, where did this get resurrected? I can't see any new post.
  11. One thing you need to be careful about is what the version compatability is. If you have Vista basic, you can only upgrade to 7 basic and can't make the leap directly to Professional. What are the "equivalent" Windows 7 products for Windows Vista? Windows Vista Home Premium -> Windows 7 Home Premium Windows Vista Business -> Windows 7 Professional Windows Vista Ultimate -> Windows 7 Ultimate
  12. Thanks Joel, for correcting the link. I need to start using tiny url.
  13. I just bought a new computer in May and made the switch to Vista (I hate it!) so I was seriously considering the upgrade to 7 because of being able to switch to XP mode for my tax program. Wrong! This link will take you to an article about compatibilty issue and from there you can also (if you choose) see if your computer will run in virtualization mode. Sheesh, my computer is only 5 months old and won't do it. Thanks Microsoft. http://www.pcworld.com/article/16443...?tk=r el_news __________________

  15. Hi folks, I have a CA client who just divorced (community property state) and I know we can have a client do a nominee distribution for mortgage interest and other things. Here's the twist. For 2008 he was still married & filed joint and had approx. $65,000 of LT cap. loss. He claims the stocks were all in his name only. My understanding is that he has to split the loss C/F with the ex-wife. Can she do a nominee distribution "giving back" her portion of the C/F? Does this make any sense? If she can't do it, why not? As always, I appreciate your responses.
  16. You had me curious so I did a quick google. They're some kind of high speed ethernet/routing thingamajob.
  17. Thank you, I need to look a little further.
  18. I know that a SMLLC is disregarded for federal purposes and income and expenses are reported on a Sch. C. What about the state side? Do I have to do double entry? Once on the Sch. C and then delete it from the state? Once on the 1065 and then only file the 568? Never had one of these puppies before. Help is greatly appreciated.
  19. Hi folks, I had a call from a former client who wants us to do her finacee's return and I don't have any openings. Apparently he's self-employed as a garage door installer - residential and commercial and last year was his first. They are located in Hayward, CA so anywhere in that area would be acceptable. If you have room for a new client, would you be kind enough to email me. [email protected] Thanks a bunch.
  20. If I shoot my client, would the attorney's fees be deductible? KC, would you defend me? What about a jury of my peers - who better than stressed out tax preparers? I smell acquittal.
  21. I agree with Tom. Don't discount your fee when you have worked hard to do your best for her. She won't respect you for it. Not only that, but if she returns again and doesn't like the results again, she'll expect another discount.
  22. I don't efile corporations, but could you just print out the status page? That would show the date filed and accepted.
  23. CA is going to start issuing refunds. http://www.sco.ca.gov/eo/pressbox/2009/02/pr09014.pdf

  25. Here's a nice list with some FMVs on it. I give it to my clients and insist that they keep the records. FMV_NonCash_Charity.xls
