  1. Payroll = Wages = W-2 forms issued = proper withholding = 941 with appropriate payments. It is NOT COGS. The person probably issued 1099s instead of W-2. The IRS has made misclassification of workers a big issue lately.
  2. Fill in all the amounts accurately. The IRS will determine if/how much will be refunded to her. Nothing you can do to change the process.
  3. A wise choice for you!! Stick with what you do best that is working.
  4. You are correct.
  5. You just gotta love Taxifornia!!
  6. Do you charge her an appropriate amount for the angst she causes you? If not, why not?
  7. I have a different philosophy. All my clients are my friend.
  8. The demise of our country!!
  9. I wish that were my experiences...
  10. Unless you feel very comfortable as a computer tech person, do not attempt what is listed in this article. Most tax accountants will do more harm to their system and network trying to upgrade. My recommendation is: 'Do not upgrade to anything higher than WIN7 Pro. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." "A word to the wise is sufficient."
  11. Is anyone planning to attend any of the IRS Nationwide Forums this summer? I am planning to attend the Forum in Atlanta in August. If anyone else is going, it sure would be good to meet some of the people I have been conversing with on this forum there. I am going by myself and would entertain the idea of a roommate to share expenses. I have some special insights into the Atlanta venue that will be very helpful. Message me if interested. https://www.irstaxforum.com/index
  12. Maybe we will try to have another visit to your state before tax season, and I will find something to do with that apple pie!
  13. Let me know how this statement feels a year from now.
  14. Most tax professionals do not possess the skills and abilities to build a computer. I do possess the skills, but allow other professionals to custom build them for me. Lower cost than you post, hours NOT spent assembling, testing, loadingsoftware, 3 year warranty, etc. Work smarter not harder.
  15. Tell him "No more homemade (insert appropriate delicacy here) till you slow down and explain it so I can understand."
  16. How many people work in your office? How much time do you have to train them on the new OS? How much time do you want to lose during the peak of season when the new OS causes delays because of being unfamiliar? It is nice and "techy" to say "I have the latest OS on all my machines." Practical integration of all workstations in a large environment is a whole different matter.
  17. Just like I said. I agree with all of the above. If your supplier of choice says he/she cannot provide WIN7 Pro as operating system, contact me. I will put you in touch with one that can.
  18. Yes, at least with ATX.
  19. With her blindfolded....
  20. There will be no operating system on any of my personal, nor any of the firm's computers except WIN7 Pro for at least 3 more years. WIN7 is going to be supported till at least 2020 per Microsoft. It is solid, reliable, and all the peripheral companies have drivers for it. Not going through the VISTA fiasco ever again. My recommendation is: DO NOT sign up for, install or upgrade to WIN8, WIN8.1 or WIN 10. WIN7 Pro will be available as OS on new computers for several years, if you choose a proper supplier.
  21. Very few kids that work a part time job earn over $6,100. I always advise part time kids to claim exempt. Only a handful in 18 years ended up owing, and then it was less than $50. If the kids does not file, he cannot mess it up. The problems arise from the kid with $4,000 in wages and $400 in withholdings and wants to file immediately to get that refund and claims him/herself. I fix approx. 35-50 of those every season.
  22. They have a marketing department with excellent thesauruses.
  23. Blindfold the firing squad so that several of the shots miss his heart. Let him die slowly and agonizingly, just the same way his victims have to repair the damage.
