  1. But many less computer-knowledgeable people on here choose to blunder ahead... Lately, I have been earning some decent money "restoring" WIN10 to WIN7. I only smile and nod when the person complains about how much has been lost in the transitions. They still write me the check. Those that I have counseled not to upgrade pay more for the retrograde. Sometimes I get paid for what I know, not what I do. Everyone would be wise to heed the advice about NOT UPGRADING or buying a machine with WIN10 on it. A word to the wise is sufficient.
  2. And people wonder why I recommend NOT UPGRADING....
  3. He loses any refund that was due. Period. Procrastination just cost him.
  4. I have not used Paperless Plus, but every program like it that I have had touch with is a waste of money and especially your time. Just my opinion. The technology is NOT as good as the salespeople say it is.
  5. I am curious how the late/non filing of 941 forms will be treated? Am I missing something? Seems like an attempt to skirt he proper procedures.
  6. Read the regs again.
  7. Mostly as a safe question to submit to the taxpayer if fraud is suspected. Almost every other detail about a person's life is on the internet somewhere.
  8. The State of Ohio is requiring DL information for most taxpayers. There is still confusion in the information from the State about which taxpayers need that information. There are other states instituting the same requirements. Hence, the place for input of the information.
  9. All clients, can provide an actual 1095-A from the marketplace. In the past 3 months, at the firm, we have seen every excuse from clients that say "I can't get a copy." After standing our ground and saying "No 1095-A, no return," miraculously, all (approx. 20) people were able to produce the "can't get one" form from the Marketplace. Second, anyone receiving a1095-A cannot check the box proclaiming full year coverage on the back of the 1040. Depending upon the situation, anyone receiving a 1095-A must include Form 8962 ore 8965. No exceptions.
  10. Yet another reason I choose not to "upgrade."
  11. I totally agree with both Elrod and Catherine. You put yourself in huge exposure to liability if you send information to a third party. We do NOT send taxpayer information to anyone except the taxpayer(s). They are then responsible for anything after that. Read Circular 230 again... Charge for extra copies!!
  12. ATX is not designed to be used via by VPN. It is a violation of the license agreement. Call tech support if you don't believe me, or, read your license agreement.
  13. I had three voicemail messages from 3 different ATX employees saying that ALL codes must be entered. This is one of the reasons why I have not installed anything yet. Déjà vu all over again...
  14. I always entered all codes. I had two voicemails from ATX telling me this. (2 different people, two different days... some things never change) I know it takes an additional 2-3 minutes to install all the codes, and I know how burdensome that can be. (s) (for those with no sense of humor)
  15. I recommend that people DO NOT UPGRADE TO WIN 10. Simple, straightforward advice. If you like headaches, ignore my advice.
  16. It still defeats the purpose of pinning. They were pinned to be seen by everyone each time the forum is opened. The information in them was deemed important enough for that treatment. My memory is not good enough to remember what was pinned. Now I know scrolling and clicking are such intense physical actions that it strains the ability of some folks, but....
  17. Moving them defeats the purpose of pinning them.
  18. ATX is a very high quality tax software program for an EXPERIENCED tax return preparer. The CPA designation does NOT indicate such experience. I am seeing statements and questions in your posts that indicate very light experience in preparing personal tax returns. As an E.A., my studies and testing were 500% more about tax and preparation than the CPA exam. Your statement is demeaning and condescending. I would have handled the situation you described in less than 5 minutes by knowing how the return is supposed to be prepared and when it is correct, and making sure the numbers flow and are entered appropriately. For the record, I live in Ohio (check the name) and do about 5 DE returns a year. Never have had any issues with multi-state.
  19. I will not even load the program till Nov. 30. More important things to do!!
  20. Before you do netstetup again, temporarily disable your anti-virus.
  21. Way too soon to make any judgments about the program. Patience.... Patience.... Patience....
  22. Low hanging fruit...
  23. You are correct.
