  1. Is this a desktop or a laptop? If it is a laptop, the video card is integral in the motherboard. If the video card goes bad, you need a new laptop. KC is right. Plan on the replacement right now.
  2. Don't hold back Catherine, tell us how you REALLY feel!!!!
  3. Those are early symptoms of a video card starting to die.
  4. QuickBooks has the ability to electronically submit W-2 forms. Why not use it instead of all the moving around of information?
  5. Those are instructions for W-2 forms. 1099 forms e-file in the same manner as a tax return.
  6. Disable your anti-virus program. If you have more than one anti-virus program, delete all but one. Only use the latest install file from the ATX download page. Follow the installation instructions exactly. Install ALL provided installation codes. If these steps are unsuccessful, call tech support.
  7. Better odds of you winning the PowerBall!!!
  8. ATX Payroll Compliance Program. Part of ATX MAX.
  9. They only charge for forms that they actually process. W-2s are filed directly with the SS Administration, so they do not charge for them.
  10. NONE. Enter what you believe to be the actual information. The IRS has published information that says there is no need to amend if the 1095 forms, once received, do not match what was filed. This tells me that the IRS is not going to police this matter. The whole system and process is a pile of male bovine scat.
  11. In the rollover manager, under the rollover tab, choose each item you wish to rollover. Then, on the first return you rollover, check all the boxes in the small dialogue box will pop up.
  12. The comparison form does not compare States.
  13. Here is the reply I received just this morning.... (I hope you enjoy comedy...) Jack, I would advise you to call in to support at the number listed below for further trouble shooting on this issue. If your computer is going to sleep, this could potentially cause the issue. If this is not the case then please call us. If you need further assistance, please contact our customer support department at 1-800-638-8291. Thank you for using our products!! JOEL INGEBRIGTSEN ATX CCH Small Firms Services, a Wolters Kluwer business 225 Chastain Meadows Court, NW Suite 200 Kennesaw, Georgia. 30144 phone- 800-638-8291 fax-888-815-7587
  14. The discussion is about IP PIN, not PTIN. Two totally different things. The number to call about any IP PIN questions is 1-800-829-0433. Only the taxpayer can make the call.
  15. It makes no difference whether a workstation on a network, or a standalone computer. This is a KNOWN issue by ATX. It was massively huge problem in 2013, a much reduced, but still occurred often problem in 2014. It is NOT hardware related. Trust me on these matters. I have spent hours with tech support discussing this issue. My disdain is due to the fact that ATX told me, as an answer to the direct question about this issue, that it was going to be resolved. Again, misleading, inaccurate information was being given to customers.
  16. This problem is NOT a hardware problem. I have 3X the recommended system including a SSD and 8GB RAM on all computers. This is a programming issue. ATX has known that the issue exists since the 2013 software. It is absolutely lousy programming if I have to go through the steps that Rich described each time I open the program. Imagine at our office trying to teach 8 users how to take those steps each time the program is opened. I just sent the e-mail again. Once a day till something gets resolved!!
  17. I get the server - retry error while using the program. Not just when starting. The CS(?) response is invalid. Also, it is the server program that resides on each computer that is the culprit. Whether you have stand alone or a network, each computer and workstation has an active server program running in the background. This is NOT news to the developers. My beef is that it has now been 3 tax seasons and the problem still exists. GGGRRRRRRRR......... For the record, I have yet to receive a response from the email I sent.
  18. Use my name and say this was HIS experience. For 3 tax seasons they have lied directly to me and everyone else about this issue. My software engineer son tells me it is a problem that is not difficult to correct, IF, they truly want to take the steps, and handle the cost of doing so. I have been told, by the TOP President of ATX division, that they will not invest time and resources for just a "few whiners" concerning a certain item. I was also assured, when I agreed to their price(s) increase for this tax year. I tire of being ignored about a real problem that they know exists and refuse to make changes. I am only asking for participation by others on this board to help hold their feet to the fire of their promises. If you wish to remain quiet, then do so. Last season, after we reached about 400 clients, this issue popped up multiple times each day. This is NOT just a minor problem. Sometimes the error box opens behind another box on the screen and can't be seen. This causes the program to appear to be locked up, at which point the user goes through the steps to restart, costing time. It is ok to be silent, if you choose.
  19. Server 2011 Small Business I have complained about this rookie programming problem since it showed up in 2013. When they stood firm on their price increase, I told them that if this problem and 3 other nagging things like the automatic backup feature that does not work, were not corrected, I would send an e-mail to the entire group in the tech/development division every day till it is fixed. I was given solid assurance, by more than one person, in more than one department, that those problems were corrected.
  20. I would ask each of the users on this board to send and email to [email protected] with the following complaint: Fresh install of 2015 MAX. No other ATX programs running. Receiving the server busy - retry error. I was told by 3 different top level people in the ATX department that this problem was going to be corrected for 2015. I am immediately disappointed in the program and the programming AGAIN this tax season. (your name) I was assured that this nagging problem was going to be corrected as a reason to accept the increase in price for 2015 software. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR................. I am waiting to see what kind of response I receive from ATX.
  21. You can give this information to YOUR clients if you choose. I am too smart to do so.
  22. We have clients who have kids in colleges that REFUSE to issue 1098-T citing some rule about not required to, if the scholarships exceed the amounts billed. Colleges' apathy and carelessness are as much to blame for all the mess as the inconsistency of the IRS about this.
  23. Without a 1095-B, how is a preparer to know how many months the taxpayer was covered by Medicare? This discussion is overthinking and underthinking the question. Being on Medicare does NOT automatically mean the taxpayer was covered all year. Form 1099-SSA does NOT indicate all the information needed to verify coverage for all 12 months. Now my rant... As long as the IRS continues to grant reprives, move deadlines and ignore all the rules and penalties, there is no reason for anyone to do more than a cursory job of due diligence on this matter. The IRS does not know how and where things are at now, nor for the last 3 years, nor where they are going, how in the world are they going to police all these.
  24. I export client information to a .cvs file and use a Word document with mail merge. I position the name and address to fit a standard window envelope. Print, fold, stuff, stamp and mail. Works great and the letter is NOT part of the program. I have no issue finding it and changing it if I need.
