Just picked up a 7 year old retread client. 2 W-2s and a 1098INT. Price increase over normal is happening. After tax year 2008, they have not communicated with me. Their info was in my drop box today. I don't know if their return fits the description of "simple?"

I print everything, client and preparer, to .pdf. I store the preparer copy digitally. From the pdf, I can use my printer's duplex function the way I want. I stopped printing paper copies for myself 5 years ago. I also give my clients the option of a flash drive. I have purchased a large number of 4GB flash drives for $4 each. I just copy the client pdf to the flash drive and give it back to the client. Most of my clients take advantage of this. Saves me a ton of time and paper. In addition, I can easily include the worksheets I want the client to see without making the "packet" I used to give them much larger.

I use the itemized list function in ATX.

It is up to the bank. Each bank has its own rules and procedures. I have witnessed that the majority of banks don't even verify ACH deposits.

Yes.

Can't file separately if they received subsidy.

Both answers given are correct.

He/they are responsible for the penalty. No exception. He would have been responsible if he had not been married. Marriage does not grant any exception to the requirement rules..

...and change your phone number(s). -
Yes. Don't overthink this.

I had a list of 10 items. At least 3 of them seem to have been corrected. Still waiting...

Good gravy, it's too early for this to be happening already!

Teach me how to do that??? -
Each different software uses different classifications and processes to calculate depreciation. Are you certain that EVERY asset you have listed is in exactly the right category and uses the right convention?
-
Server and 10 workstations here. No problems, but am skeptical if all the problems the update was to fix have actually been fixed. Time will tell.
-
No details of depreciation are sent to the IRS. We should all be very glad that is the case.

Curious About What Your Software Allows

He may be overriding the software. Your choice to keep getting messy with all his incompetence. So, you are going to teach him how to use his software? I would cut all contact, including those things you consider "special situations." If you do not break all ties, it will never end. Before long, you will start considering all hos "problems" to be "special situations." -
Isn't that being redundant?

You need to quit babysitting this guy. His lack of knowledge and how he treats HIS customers is not your issue. Walk away. If clients call, tell them you no longer have any connection to the business and they should talk to him. Not your circus, not your monkeys. This is the best advice you will receive about your situation. -
1. No. He is only moving from a temporary address back to his main home address. 2. All other questions are moot.

IRS Granting brokers extension to send out 1099 DIV.
Jack from Ohio replied to Ringers's topic in General Chat
Brokerage houses spent their lobbying money well. They bought the extension of time. We have the best tax system that lobbyists can buy!! -
I turned off the function that shows the individual prices for each form and have all the no charge forms show on the invoice. That way, clients won't be questioning how I arrive at my price, but see all the forms and worksheets related to their return. Has worked great for 2 years now.

Under the tools tab, choose billing manager. It will change the fees for the return you have open only.
-
Yes I have noticed the trend. Our Governor has lowered the tax rates and changed the steps in the charts. Also, added some credits and removed others.

These will never happen. The American public is addicted to the forced savings account of the IRS and the need to have that refund RIGHT AWAY! If Congress changes those things, the ones responsible for voting to change it will not get re-elected. Hence, it will never happen. Reelection is much more important than billions in fraudulent refunds, and thousands of people having their identities compromises. Until America is cured of these 2 addictions, tax fraud and identity theft will run rampant.

How long will it take for the scammers to get all the gullible people?
