  1. ha-ha-ha Very good article indeed. In my opinion, full of bull$hitS and nonsense. Read this last week but didn't find it necessary to share with you. "But reports continue with both ATX and TaxWorks about performance, clogged or unhelpful software support and the feeling that someone was asleep at the wheel in bringing these two products to market for the 2012 tax season. Complaints continue with both ATX and TaxWorks about performance, clogged or unhelpful software support and the feeling that someone was asleep at the wheel in bringing these two products to market for the 2012 tax season. And the ATX forum, www.atxcommunity.com has a lot of discussions about the refund policy of CCH SFS. After hitting the clogged ATX support lines, Tony Servidio of Las Vegas, Nev. switched to Intuit's ProSeries. He said he got a response from customer service there in five minutes. "The support staff walked me through the installation and I was up and running in 15 minutes. Pro Series was a little more expensive than ATX but you get what you pay for," he said." In these two paragraphs only, there are more bugs than the all ATX ... anyway ... Someone was very nervous and affected
  2. http://www.theprogressiveaccountant.com/tax/cch-new-prez-to-grapple-with-atx-mess.html I can't stand not to share this: " ... I have now been on the phone with customer assistance since 10:30 a.m.. I am on hold for Tech Support for the past 36 minutes. The result is we have been out of business for the last 2.5 hours. No resolution in sight." Imho ... poor Mike - 36 mins, lol. ... or should I say Lucky one!? ... In addition to this, some useful info: http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/First-Time-Homebuyer-Credit-Account-Look-up - Use our First Time Homebuyer Credit Account Look-up Tool to get account information such as the total amount of your credit or your repayment amount.
  3. I don't know about oanda and forex trading but here's what I know about shares trading. It's kinda problem indeed because they usually had a lot of transactions and it's worthless to issue hundred or more paper 1099s. But there are also electronic ones ... Client definitely should have electronic statement - tax reporting statement or just income and transaction statement - and there is definitely 1099 consolidated (incl DIV, INT, B, OID, etc.) or 1099 original form issued for every account for sure. Even more, after the latest regulation changes, such parties are obliged to issue additional statements which consist same information as on the ATX 8949 worksheet so you shouldn't have any problems when importing transactions info. Unfortunately, most prob not all of them are ready to provide such documents up to today ... Client definitely should be able to pull out any kind of report or statement through his online account. And yes you may ask client for .csv file for cross check and speeding up the process.
  4. http://download.cchsfs.com/email/atx_training_bulletin_renewed_02202013.html - Have you received such email and have you found anything useful/interesting inside?
  5. omg. Just saw this email in my Inbox ... There is another CCH related article there http://www.theprogressiveaccountant.com/news/tax-and-accounting-grows-at-wolters-kluwer.html God safe/help ATX-ers!
  6. This was posted on My ATX Blog. Anyone with more info on this and what is inside 12.9 and what will be in 12.10, please post.
  7. Just receive a message informing about this ... http://www.sctax.org/security.htm - SC Department of Revenue Cyber Attack
  8. okay, then can I skip 12.8 and go for 12.9!?
  9. Well, I begin to think that at the bottom of all this is the Service again - it seems like they want us checking everything on the return personally and manually! I am downloading and installing updates manually since 12.5 - no troubles so far .
  10. Hey namesake, I am not sure and must say this is the top of my knowledge in this area but this "NET Runtime 4.0 error" have something to do with Microsoft .NET Frameworks 4 - check if your pc is "okay" with this software and if you have all the current MS updates on it. Also check you client letter preferences - this was the most current reason for my crash problems, after installing 12.7. Fingers crossed as I am going for 12.8 and 12.9 now .... Completely agreed with Jack - 'Start over on the new computer" is ALWAYS the better option ... if you have the time and resources to afford this now ...
  11. Don't know if this was already discussed somewhere on the board but http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-To-Accept-Tax-Returns-with-Education-Credits,-Depreciation-Next-Week IRS To Accept Tax Returns with Education Credits, Depreciation Next Week ... Starting Sunday, Feb. 10, the IRS will start processing tax returns that contain Form 4562, Depreciation and Amortization. And on Thursday, Feb. 14, the IRS plans to start processing Form 8863, Education Credits. ...
  12. Good one! ... pfu, it took me some 20 mins to find it: C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataCCH Small Firm ServicesATX2012 - this is for XP users for win7 and vista can't tell you now but you can check on the relevant parallel location. Interesting folder! ...
  13. U R welcome! Hope this may help many more. Fellows, check your Client Letters preferences, check your default printer, check your default internet browser - should be IE8 min. Keep trying. As Jack says, patience is the word of the day! Believe, stay calm and keep smiling - it doesn't worth to waste your life for such things!
  14. @ FL TM, For file searching issue - check this post: For WinXP hidden files issue - follow this path: Open a window (f.e. My computer) -> Tool -> Folder option -> View (second tab) -> search for "Show hidden files and folders" radio button under Advanced settings menu. Good luck.
  15. frannie, go to C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Data and then look for CCHSmall Firm Services Atx2012Assets but not straight to C:program dataCCHSmall Firm Services Atx2012Assets. hope you already checked for your hidden folders settings ... guys, also check your CLs preferences
  16. As far as I see, It is not possible at the moment, at least as per the updated ATX 2012 User Guide (found at C:Program FilesCCH Small Firm ServicesATX2012HelpUserGuide; or on Support/User Guide menu within ATX 2012). "You can customize a form in any of the following ways: l Inserting special text (see Inserting Text on Forms) l Inserting pictures or images to the form (see Inserting Pictures on Forms) l Adding itemized lists (see Creating Itemized Lists) l Adding text lists (see Creating Text Lists) l Adding custom lists (see Creating Custom Lists)" I also think they can easily add Left/Center/Right Alignment functionality ... or customize this - it would be okay too. I'd also love to have customization on this down right corner zoom tool - I don't like this mouse dragging Since it seems there is no solutions of this now, what I can suggest is: - you can edit client mail slip while overriding the lines with the prep's name&address, enter manually the same information again and center them manually (don't know how this will affect e-file ...), or - you can edit client mail slip manually again after printing the whole TR on PDF printer, using Acrobat Pro (in case you are going to post the return) Good luck!
  17. oh, and I almost forgot - manually adding a Client Letter AFTER rolling-over or creating new return is a piece of joke! so at this stage just avoid having them attached to the return by default - I think this may help, solve some problems ... Lol, Can't wait for the next update now!
  18. AF, you came like a fresh morning breeze for me! Damn these letters ... after you Client Letters hint, checked my Preferences/Client Communication menu again and it seems somehow ( I don't know how and don't remember when, if me ...) all check boxes there were ticked for me! Turn them off so today is the first day in last week or so for me seeing rolled-over or newly created return opened! In a second, w/t any issues or problems, and I was able to add forms, incl sch EIC, 8867, 8863, etc. ... And EZ form as well. Now I feel calm again I can open the forms. A Big Thanks to everyone! Also, it might be of help for the others. Program Files in not Program Data. For relevant users this may be: Windows XP: C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication Data Windows Vista: C:ProgramData Windows 7: C:ProgramData
  19. he-he man, I feel sorry for you - you must be living in some kind of nightmare - there will NOT be 69 updates of 2012 ATX for sure, and "everthing finally seems to work" okay long before Oct 16 2013! lol at least for us ... dunno for you ... but keep us posted buddy, and don't give up!
  20. Thanks. "I didn't want to wait to see if 12.5 would fix my form problem" This, for sure. ... Strange but can't find such folder/file within my installation ... hm, maybe THIS is the problem for me ... will see
  21. "Actually, it is now called a line of credit. Up to $1000. But it locks the taxpayer into doing the return with HRB. Slick marketing. And if you don't like the results of the return they prepare when you do get your W2, you have to pay back the $1000 plus pay them the fees associated with the line of credit, and pay a minimum fee for the unfinished tax return." aaaaha-ha-ha-ha-ha-haaaaa sdratsab I pray and I really hope that more and more people these days will do it more wisely and will file their TRs with w-2 rather than last payslips ...
  22. Nothing to worry about, KC. 1. http://www.nartrp.com/news/article/58/IRS+Responds+to+District+Court+Decision#.UP8EuWfTqz5?utm_source=TaxProCPE&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=NARTRP+-+01-22-2013 " ...Recognizing that the IRS has made significant investment in recent years addressing tax preparer competency, the NARTRP is encouraging its members to “stay the course” during this period of uncertainty..." 2. As jainen already said: http://www.taxprocpe.com/emailmarketer/display.php?M=1714160&C=9d596f15acb22dd924bde2c46bca867e&S=58&L=26&N=46 " ...While candidates may request a refund, we believe the IRS will resolve the matter via congressional action, appeal and stay of the court decision, or both due to the amount of resources already devoted to increasing compliance and regulation of tax preparers. We continue to encourage our members to “stay the course” even if not currently required." 3. And finally: http://www.taxprocpe.com/emailmarketer/display.php?M=1714160&C=9d596f15acb22dd924bde2c46bca867e&S=61&L=26&N=47 or check this: http://www.irs.gov/Tax-Professionals/PTIN-System-Down ... oh, I see everyone here is regularly checking this link, lol ...
  23. wow, wow, very interesting useful info ... Did anyone else had same experience and can provide more feedback on this? And also pls give some basic info in which situations this can solve the problem, and how to deal if the program is getting worse after doing this. Thanks
