  1. Based on past posts from members of this board and posts on the official ATX board, your quite likely to have some problems. The most trouble free approach will be to follow the process just like you are moving to a new computer: 1. Back up everything for every year. 2. You will need to do fresh installs of ATX software for each year 3. Then reinstall your backed client files for each year. Based on what I remember from other posters, ATX doesn't respond well to the upgrading of operating systems on the same computer, I assume due to changes in the Windows Registry. Good Luck
  2. 1. Clear your browser history and try again 2. Try a different browser
  3. I am very curious as to how checks paid to individuals and 1099 income reported to the IRS in Box 7 with the matching SSN numbers of the same individuals is reported as Corporate Revenue. What would be the logical justification ? Frankly, my creative imagination doesn't stretch that far.
  4. This not the same as your situation. This is wishful thinking stretched to the max !
  5. Basically they are office sharing and each individual would deduct there share of the expenses on their own a Schedule C. This is very similar to what Real Estate Agents have to do. I don't see any way to set up a business entity in these circumstances!
  6. I have carried it for 27 years and don't regret paying for it. I have never had a claim, however it's like paying for fire or earthquake insurance. Paying for it is annoying until you need it, then it's a lifesaver.
  7. "You will be able to transmit returns to Drake up until 9:55 pm ET on November 16, 2019 - The IRS cutoff time is 10:00 pm ET. We strongly suggest you attempt your final transmissions at least one hour before the cutoff time,"
  8. Judy pinned it, so it's the very first thread.
  9. The requirement to issue Form 1095 has not gone away. I know I will be hard at work in late January preparing 1095s for my largest client who is an ALA. In fact there were a number of articles mid summer about the IRS making it a point to pursue and assess penalties on employers who are not issuing 1095s. Also you will still be dealing with the issue of Premium Tax Credit overpayments and/or related refunds.
  10. This coming year, I will also give them a paper copy plus I will offer them a pdf copy on a DVD or a Thumb Drive. I will not email any clients or third parties pdf copies of their returns ,password protected or not ! Email over the internet is way too insecure !
  11. Hey, I still use snail mail when there isn't any time pressure
  12. Is this house her residence or does she live somewhere else ?
  13. You need to follow the instructions in the ATX knowledge base, which requires, if I remember correctly, a fresh installation of the ATX software for each year.
  14. What do you mean "cloning my W7Pro to the new system" ?
  15. I only use password protected pdf files for out of town clients of which I have very few. Every one else has to pick up their returns at my office,
  16. Wow, that is truly scary! What else can we do to help identity thieves ???
  17. It would probably depend on the legal vehicle that named the deceased brother executor and whether a successor was also named.
  18. Drake has password protection by default in their Print Manager if you print a pdf, unless you unselect password protection. If both you and your client use gmail then your email and it's contents are encrypted start to finish.
  19. Copied From IRS eNews For Small Business: "Tax treatment for family members working in the family business As part of October’s National Work and Family month, the IRS is providing tax information regarding work/home life balance and the unique tax circumstances that can arise when the two overlap. For example, when including family members in business operations, certain tax treatments and employment tax rules apply. • Both spouses carrying on the trade or business: If spouses carry on a business together and share in the profits and losses, they may be partners even if they don’t have a formal partnership agreement. • Qualified joint venture. Spouses may elect treatment as a qualified joint venture instead of a partnership. • Employment taxes. If the business has employees, either of the spouses as sole proprietors may report and pay the employment taxes. • One spouse employed by another. The wages for the services of an individual who works for their spouse are subject to income tax withholding and Social Security and Medicare taxes but not to the Federal Unemployment Tax Act. • Child employed by parents. Payments for the services of a child under age 18 aren’t subject to Social Security and Medicare taxes, if the business is a sole proprietorship or a partnership in which each partner is a parent of the child. • Parent employed by child. The wages for the services of a parent employed by their child are subject to income tax withholding and Social Security and Medicare taxes. More information: • Election for Married Couples Unincorporated Businesses • Publication 334, Tax Guide for Small Business • Publication 15, Circular E, Employer Tax Guide • Publication 51, Circular A, Agricultural Employer’s Tax Guide • Publication 541, Partnerships"
  20. Years ago I paid a client's state payroll taxes several times by writing a check from my business account. It made me a little uncomfortable, but there was no question in my mind as to my client's financial stability. I also paid some state registration fees for this client and another client with my business credit card.
  21. You definitely have way more patience than I do! I have several long term non filers that tell me that they never throw anything away and have all the information. However they never bring me anything, so I won't worry about them until they bring their stuff in if they ever do, since it's been more than 12 years since either one has filed !
  22. For years, my own return was the last tax return that I prepared until the year that I rushed off on vacation. I returned back to work in November and suddenly realized that I hadn't filed my own tax return. Now my own tax return is the very first tax return that I file every year, which allows me to test my tax software. That's my story and I'm going stick to it.
  23. Since I am leaving on vacation in several days, I pushed all of my extensions to get me their information by the end of August. I finished my last tax return on the 16th of September. However I still have 3rd quarter payroll reports to finish for 3 more clients .

    2020 PTIN

Yes the courts said it was OK, however I believe it was sent back to US District Court to resolve the $ amount. I believe the courts said the IRS could recoup their costs but no more than that.

    Spoilage

As a practical matter, when inventory becomes unsaleable and is thrown out, it's not counted in the next Physical Inventory or if a perpetual inventory is being used the disposition of the inventory is recorded. Spoilage or shrinkage is really a cost accounting measure used in order to keep better track of COGS & Gross Profit. Where as Inventory Write Downs i.e. Lower of Cost or Market is both a cost accounting measure and a tax deduction.
