  1. Very beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing!
  2. The beneficiary has no vested interest but I believe that if the bene is a spouse who is more than 10 years younger, the IRS allows using both life expectancies in the calculation of the RMD. Otherwise, the bene is immaterial. However, my off the cuff statements are no substitute for actually looking up the information.

  5. You may want to make the computation on each individual account if you have more than one beneficiary designated, and on at least one of the accounts the beneficiary is your spouse who is at least 10 years younger than you. Otherwise, I don't think it matters whether you figure the distribution for each account, and add them together or add up the accounts and then figure the distribution. At least that is the way I remember it.
  6. To clear my desktop, I made a folder called "Old Tax Programs" and I put the shortcuts for everything except the current and immediately prior year in that folder. Then I make sure that the name of the shortcuts left is very clear about which year is which.
  7. I couldn't agree more, Catherine. Thank you for saying it so well! I look forward each day to reading the posts - some helpful, some entertaining, some that touch my heart, but all from my friends! Love, Gail
  8. Which package are you looking at? The two on the low end both discount the fee if you use the card reader and swipe instead of entering the card number, but the only thing I saw about the card reader was on the lowest package, and it cost $69.95.
  9. I think that is wonderful, Tom, and I am glad you chose to share it with us here on this community! GO LODI!
  10. Isn't Top Gear a fun show!
  11. I hope your son continues to succeed in college as he has in high school. Athletic and smart - what a combination!
  12. Fantastic! I have always believed that a person who can read well can succeed at anything!

  16. Thank you for your service, and my prayers are with the families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. .
  17. Catherine, these are beautiful pictures! Thank you so much for sharing, and I look forward to some more after Thanksgiving, please!

  21. My archive disk arrived today!
  22. I also worked the polls yesterday, as I have for several years. In the brief time we had between rushes, we discussed how privileged we felt to live in a democracy, particularly one where we do not feel intimidated or harassed when we vote. I like Catherine's comment, and heartily recommend throwing the old rascals out when they become rascals. I was thrilled by the high turnout we had in our precinct yesterday.
  23. A bank teller is bonded, however, and is employed by a bank which is extremely regulated and licensed, at least in theory. Someone pays for that bank teller's bond, and for the regulatory compliance that the bank goes through. Very few professions are completely unregulated and unlicensed any more. Even tradesmen such as HVAC mechanics, plumbers, electricians, etc. are now require to have continuing education in the state of Virginia in addition to a license showing that at one time they passed a test proving their competence to practice their chosen profession. Why shouldn't tax preparers have at least the same professional standards as your average barber (who may also be passing out tax advice....) The major difference I see is that this is being regulated on a federal level rather than a state level.
