  1. I have my clients to play the old Jokers Wild game. Joker, Joker, Joker!
  2. I keep copies of DL or state ID for the tax payer. Copies of birth certificate and social security card for the children. Medical or school information for residency for the children. Also I get new copies of the tax payer DL or ID if it expired. The bank products want current ID or DL in order to get the service for your client.
  3. Without a doubt we need a overhaul on this feeling entitled system. It's costing the taxpayers monies we can spend elsewhere. I've had potential clients who actually get upset that I wouldn't take them on as a client. Some claim to be self employed and don't know jack about their so called business. But they can tell you how much EIC their supposed to receive for each child. Really!
  4. I've used TaxAct for 8 years and you definitely save money on the unlimited e-file plan (prepaid). There's no way to bypass those extra clicks though. Like Ms. Tabby Kats said TaxAct is through in it's e-filing process. You get use to those extra clicks before you know it.
  5. I round my numbers out of habit. Being doing so for 24 years even when I use to prepare returns by hand. It's never to late to start.
  6. Yes George, So far the IRS are on top of their game. My clients are very happy with the quick turn around with their refunds.
  7. It starts at $240, depending on what else needs to be filled out it could be more. I need you to fill out a information form and forward your information to me. Also I'll like to look over your 2012 tax return if you have it.
  8. I would advise the client of the suspicious 2012 tax return and give her information on reporting the previous tax preparer. I would prepare her 2013 tax return the right way. You'll be surprised from some of the tax returns you come across that's prepared by other EA's, CPA's, and tax preparer's. I've seen them all.
  9. I have my clients to utilize my outdoor drop box, fax, or email me their information. This way I'm able to focus on my work and actually get work done. If I do a face to face it costs more and I do face to face for my business clients (payroll & bookkeeping). Time is money people!
  10. You probably want to charge a small processing fee the next time. Apparently he don't have the EIC verification documents. I can't blame you for insisting on the documents. I refuse to be hit with penalties for not doing my job.
  11. You probably want to contact customer service because ATX had issues with NJ state returns that were supposed to be straightened out on 2/4/2014.
  12. I've done plenty of IN state returns and most IN cities don't enforce the local tax with holding. So it's truly optional for the local to do so.
  13. The client has to address the SSA about the name change not you.
  14. This is my 1st year with ATX so far so good. I've completed about 75 tax returns so far. I was formerly with Tax Act Preparer's 1040. I must admit that ATX is more of a professional grade for me.
  15. It expires in 12 months. You can write VOID on the check and send it to your IRS processing center. You'll receive a 4427c notice as acknowledgement of receipt. Then they'll go ahead and re-issue you another check.
  16. I've been here in TN for 3 years now and they shut everything down from just 1 inch of snow. I 've seen a snow truck run off the road and the car that was tailing him. I've lived in Chicago for most of my life so it tickles me when the public panics over the snow. The southern states are not equipped to handle it though.
  17. I do that for both corporate and individual returns. The IRS actually taught us that way back in the day.
  18. Mashburn I think you need to be a little more patient and wait the 45 days for your efin. Explain the situation to your clients I'm quite sure most of them would understand. Chock it up as a lesson learned for putting your paperwork in at the last minute.
  19. I've always rounded to the nearest dollar since the 90's
  20. I use Medlin for payroll and accounting. I use ATX for tax prep and to e-file my 94x series. I find it to be reasonably priced combined.
  21. I've been using Medlin for the past 10 years. It's great for payroll before and after the fact. To answer your question Jack Medlin only e-files a few choice states (5). Just the W-2 and you have to be filing like 150 W-2's. So no it does not e-file 1099 or 94x series. And it's limited on e-filing W-2's.
