  1. As long as his 2013 return has been fully processed (received refund) he can go ahead and amend his 2013 tax return. Yes he will be able to apply his additional refund from the amendment to 2014.
  2. I agree with going with various and long term. Trust me you're going to need your time and your energy to close out the season.
  3. No since he didn't earn income from the state of IN he will not have to file a IN return. He will have to file a return still for his home state.
  4. Your client got reviewed before and didn't prove his case to the IRS satisfactorily before. So without a doubt the IRS is going to ask him to prove his case again. It's going to put a delay on his processing.
  5. Try uninstalling your Brother MFC-8220 software and re-install plus go to the Brother website to update your drivers. They have your 8.1 update for 32 & 64 bit. That should straighten it out. If it don't contact APX about a windows 8.1 compatibility check (ask if the software is compatible with Windows 8.1).
  6. I think he's considered a self contractor and has to be reported on a Schedule C.
  7. I had problems with IE previously and I opted to switch to Google Chrome. I've been smooth sailing ever since.
  8. Go to ssa.gov and click on business services.
  9. That's true MAS, You can apply online through SSA business services . It'll take them 2-3 weeks to send you a confirmation letter which you then go online to confirm with the SSA. Then you'll be able to start reporting W-2's to the SSA.
  10. I agree that he was over charged at the firm and that you under charged. You do have overhead costs even though they may not be much. I would have charged $1,500 for the services rendered.
  11. I charge a rush fee of $75-$150 depending on what I need to do for the client. On the invoice I do list form/service line by line what I'm charging for. That's my bookkeeping mode kicking in when I do my invoicing.
  12. I had no problems with my install. I have a stand alone system though.
  13. Mama needed a new pair of shoes! LOL
  14. My mini vacation comes when I can take my dog for a walk at walk at the marina.
  15. I was able to get a quick nap in today. It was much needed.
  16. Yeah I'm used to that warning to for example Davis copy (2). I'm sure it's something that ATX will address. Thanks for the warning Tom.
  17. I only explain myself once then I point to the door. I also tell them that apparently they need to prepare their own return since they know so much supposedly.
  18. That's considered a transfer so no harm no foul. It's like it didn't happen because there's no taxing activity going on there.
  19. I can't compare to last year since this is my first year with ATX. I must say it's been great so far. I've done 1040, corporate returns, 1099 reporting and W-2 reporting. I'm really getting my monies worth with ATX. I currently use Medlin for payroll I recreate it in ATX so I can e-file it. Medlin don't e-file the payroll 94x series.
  20. Yes the ITIN letter acts as the social security card meaning that whats in that letter as far as the name and ITIN number is how the government identifies this person.
  21. I check the status through e-file manager and once the federal is accepted I automatically transmit the state to get the ball rolling for my client. "It's their money and they want it now!" Then I check their status through Where's My Refund in 3-4 business days in case they call me about their refund status.
  22. I've only tried 2 at a time and had no problems plus I have open the program from last year to compare (TaxAct Preparers 1040). I agree that you have a memory issue. I always add more memory to my stock install.
  23. I charge $240 for that same service. I've worked for Jackson Hewitt in the past and know they increase their fees every year. Tabby you're right about them turning into the invisible man when they owe the government. LOL!
  24. My friends and relatives don't ask for free tax preparations. If their in a bind I'll trade off for some kind of service with them (cleaning, running errands, lawn care, etc.). Or I'll let them pay me next year along with a late fee.
