  1. Yeah, but the mechanic, who pays child support to the hair stylist, keeps that one alive.
  2. But there is great personal satisfaction in being a love doctor and family counselor. And chickens come home to roost eventually if you don't deliver what you promise, as we say around here.
  3. The comments (click the tab at the top of the article) are interesting. I would also lose most of my clients if I charged like this. $279 for a 1040, Schedule A, and TN-250 won't fly around here, much less the higher fees for other schedules. Not saying HRB doesn't charge like this, but they advertise enough that there is a steady flow of people trying them out every year which makes up for the folks that leave and find the rest of us. Same story, year 21.
  4. 26. We didn't make any money. Just enough to pay our bills is all. (Yes, I heard this one from a business owner whose "bills" included Hummer, BMW, boat, food, utility, and mortgage payments. They had a rude awakening. Oh, and don't sign up for SS at age 62 when you make 100k.)
  5. Or, "How should I fill out my W-2?" Yeah, they mean W-4, and you don't even prepare their taxes. They are too smart for that. Do it themselves. Chased you out the door of church cause you need quick questions on Sunday, too.
  6. 18) You don't need this info on my early withdrawal. They held out the taxes already. 19) Bet you are getting busy, huh?
  7. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Affordable Care Act is going to kill us all anyway. Which is ironic when you think about it...
  8. 10) I'm too old to pay taxes. 11) SS is not taxable, you don't need that form. (Uh, it's on a form... and hey, look - a worksheet on the back.) 12) Just put down the standard amount for donations.

Yeah, and is that 5 x 7 dinky, or what? I feel like Rodney Dangerfield.
  10. I can't believe it's been a whole year since I didn't become a better person.
  11. Totally agree with this. There are old bats that I choose to treat "fluffily," because, oh dear God, they need it. They are not running over you if you lay down in front of the bus. It's more like a rough massage. And no skid marks. Many times I benefit when they send family. Or bring me a nice jar of apple butter and a hug cause, let's face it, they are bats, and nobody else pays attention to them. Other times I just get a rough massage. Run your business the way you see fit.
  12. Well, she's an old bat I mean pleasant elderly lady, and my meds and therapy don't cost as much in Tennessee as they do in California. Merry everything and happy always to you, too, Tom.
  13. I reviewed three years of returns for a bat I mean real pleasant lady. Amended one year to recover $150 for her. Plus interest. Charged her $60. "Well, I'm not even coming out ahead," she bleated I mean said. She is either Grinch or does math like Congress.
  14. I have a terrible cough every year from the middle of January thru about the third week of February. Then I see all the actual tax "payers", and my cough goes away but I get depressed and eat a lot of comfort foods.
  15. I'm going with multiple dates in early 2015 if North Korea says it's ok. Too soon?
  16. Well, I was pretty happy to have a stalker, and you just ruined it.
  17. And I made 100 on the CE quiz.
  18. I'm going with you to buy a ticket, Margaret. Cause I am the co-luckiest person ever with ATX and have never seen that message, either.
  19. Best observation ever made in the history of the world.
  20. I had to look it up.
  21. Shhhhh. If you love someone, let them sleep.
  22. Having said all that high and mighty stuff up there, I hope to GAWD this is a bad dream and the ACA as we [don't] know it dies a quick and efficient death. It's just ridiculous what we are gonna have to deal with here. My clients can't find their butts with both hands and a flashlight. I want to crawl in a hole and wait for the end.
  23. And we ought to try to be consistent with clients, too. Don't need to give them a bunch of winks this year and then read them the riot act next go round. They need to think we're tax professionals. They have enough mechanics and hair dressers.
