Shhhh, I never "heard" you say that. Way to go!!!!!!!!

I received my CD today. This is one of the most personable, helpful and accommodating companies that I have ever dealt with. I would never even consider asking for a discount for a product that is so fairly priced to begin with. I fully support the statements made by Bulldog Tom.
-
Awesome!!!! I am sure everyone here will be praying for the continuation of your good news.
-
Thanks, Lion...they are going to have to.! Merry Christmas.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all from snowy Wisconsin.

Right now, my biggest concern is all the FAFSA people who NEED their returns done early to apply for student loans before all the money is gone. Big headache every year; bigger headache this year. Even if we can prepare the return, apparently as long is the form is marked "Draft", we cannot print. Just something else to make us look inept.

I pretty much concede to Margaret. This is a "Community" board with the sub category of "General Chat". The Official ATX Board is now split into six separate forums where you can discuss anything from the mundane to the very tough tax issues. Generally, though, I find it to be more of a place to give answers than to get them. I have wondered, on occasion, if the Birthdays could somehow be separated into their own category on this board. However, it is not a big issue for me other than on days when there are several and some of the serious posts sort of get lost. I rarely miss a day of visiting here even though there isn't really any serious tax talk going on yet. I do find that I am disappointed when there are NO new posts. IMO

Senile????? NO WAY!!!!!!! And, incidentally, thanks for all the help you have given me, along with the other contributors to this board. I don't think anybody here is too active or inactive not to be appreciated and/or missed. IMO

For some reason, I have more and more clients coming in with non-perforated W2's. It is a pain, but not the fault of the client. Yes, scissors still work.
-
Uni-forms are NOT pre-printed forms. They are plain paper perforated forms. Many of us who don't print a lot of W-2s and 1099s; have a supply of them. It would be nice to use them up and they ARE convenient. Most of us also have a supply of envelopes that are made specifically with the windows for uni-forms. Let's find a solution. Go John!!!!

If you go to the PTIN login website, click on the PTIN that is shown as yours, another box will come up that says the number is provisional and the date of expiration.

The above "fix" worked only after I shut down and restarted my computer. Good Luck all.

Just received the following e-mail from the IRS: We have had several contacts from externals regarding problems loading the "la" certificates in the Internet Explorer Brower. If you are having problems please follow the procedures outlined below to assist you in loading the certificates. 1. Download the L1C chain certificate from https://www.entrust.net/downloads/binary/entrust_l1c.cer 2. Go to Internet Options, either from the Control Panel or from the Tools menu of Internet Explorer 3. From the Content tab of Internet Options, select the Certificates button 4. Select the Intermediate Certification Authorities tab 5. Use the Import button and select the file saved in step 1 6. Click through (3 Nexts and a Finish) Please notify us through the 1040 mailbox at [email protected] if you have questions or need assistance with problems. Back to Top

That should not be necessary. I have no problem getting into irs.gov. It is the e-services site which comes up with the ugly red warning that samingeorgia is talking about. I never got that before. I just ignored it today and went in and changed my password. Also added it to my secure sites. Still getting the same message. Certificate is not........!!!! What could be more secure than e-services, other than myatx.com?
-
Also, when you prepare the e-file, you have the option of choosing the date that the check will be sent even though the e-file may be created and filed in Feb, Mar. You can opt for a date to send the voucher with the payment. I generally use April 10. The same holds true if you choose direct debit. They will take the money out of the account on the designated date no matter when the return is filed. Most clients really like this feature. These options are found on the page with the bank options.

This is exactly correct. The PTIN will stay "provisional" until the testing qualifications are met., unless you are an EA or CPA already. The number is accepted and allowed to be used for this filing season.

I use Medlin www.medlin.com for payroll. I do my payroll reports from therein. Very inexpensive and dynamic program. Around $50 for year. I do my W-2 and 1099 forms from within ATX MAX. I do my balance sheets, year end reports and cash flow reports with Quicken. Most of my clients do their own bookkeeping and I don't have a huge amount of payroll. It comes and goes as many of my clients are seasonal.
-
Not a chance. Methinks it was your reward for coming back to ATX; along with the reduced price for the Max package. A lot of us just have to bite the bullet.
-
None in my package either. Drats!!!!!! However, I was happy to receive the Master Tax Guide on Friday. Means we are starting to "swing". (P.S.) First two Quickfinders yesterday. The UPS man said "Merry Christmas!" Little does he know.

Not yet, this year. Maybe after tax season. We go to the San Marcos area; Kyle, specifically. Awesome friends there. We are expecting ten to fifteen inches of snow tonight and tomorrow so we are hunkered in. Just got the four cleaned up from last night. This is unusual, even for us. Will say some prayers for your brother. Your boy must be getting pretty big.

Welcome Home Eli.........

You Think???????? I am hoping that this will only be for preparers who have never e-filed before. I agree with MAS; they shouldn't have changed.
-
Absolutely!!! I forgot to mention the all-important external hard drive and jump drives for backup, backup and backup! Also, it goes without saying, the sources that this board adds to all of our lives, for all of the reasons that Lion mentioned. This board is, by far, our most valuable tool.

All of the above.; except that I don't use multiple moniters. However, this year I will be using two computers so I don't have to shut down the client I am working on when another client calls with a question. Also, since I work alone in a home office, I have a security camera mounted on the wall where all can see it. (Just in case). I have many reference books on the floor beside my desk. I make and keep appointments in a plain old paper Monthly Planner and have learned to write with pencil instead of pen. When they show up, I highlight the entry. Have the ringer shut off on my office phone, because I can hear it ringing in the kitchen and that is where the answering machine will pick up if I am with a client. This is probably one of the worse issues of working alone. I keep a card file with 4 x 6 cards in alphabetical order with all pertinent info for each family that comes in. On the card, I have DOBs, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and anything else that I might want or need to know quickly. When the client comes in, I turn the card up on its side. When they are done and paid, the card goes back down. Two years ago, we installed a locked drop box near the entry door to the house. This has been a tremendous extra pair of hands for me. Not only can they drop things when I am with another client or gone; but I can open a door at the front which has a large clip inside and leave things for them if I have to be gone. This is just a glorified mailbox. The rest of the general mess that I have, has evolved over the course of many years.
