Thank you. I will need that information shortly. This board is the absolute BEST.

The only time I have ever had an exception was in a case where the taxpayer moved more than 50 miles because of his job. We did considerable research that year so if you have a situation, be sure to read up on those exceptions. I agree that Taxman's client is not entitled to the exception.

Please see "authenticator app" which is the first subject at the top of this page. This subject has been reviewed a number of times.

Did you keep your installation codes. I did. I would suggest reinstalling 2022 and see if that works for you.

I cannot believe that you feel that way. Your assistance has been invaluable to me. Like others, I don't always agree, but I do bow to your knowledge and pass much of it on to my IT person. Please reconsider, if you have the time to spend with us.

We are so fortunate to have each other. I could easily count on one hand the number of times I have had to call support and the first time I ever called, I was assisted by William Tasker. Remember him? Which, once again, reminds us of how much we all owe Eric.

Why not just play fair? Why build up a name and then drag it through the mud. Taxpayers need a place to go for honest help?

No. Your employee logs into your computer as usual, but uses their own phone to authenticate. Always remember that the phone is tied to the computer. Therefore, if the employee has an authenticater for a different computer, he/she will have a different one for your computer. Your phone doesn't enter into anyone else logging into your program on YOUR computer.

Margaret, the login is the same as yours, but the second authenticator is different. Always remember that the phone is tied to the computer.

Margaret, I do maintain an exclusive OIH in my "Home away from Home". I do take the expenses for OIH because I work on tax returns when I am there. However, those are the only expenses that I take, and those are subject to quite a small square footage. I might get slapped for that some day, but I do feel justified. I have an exclusive laptop for that location as well. It stays there when I leave unless I bring it home for IT to update. (No expense for him). -
Oh, Sara, we are going to miss you. I am torn as well and have piles of books I want to read, but there is something addictive about this work and I feel so strongly about helping others. Because my husband and son are a Partnership, I will have to continue with, at least, PPR if I do decide to sell my practise.

Right on!!! I get at least one every year. They get a free dinner to go to a seminar and get talked into converting and never hear or understand the repercussions. It makes me so angry. On the other hand, I have the clients who call and ask how much they can withdraw without owing any tax. Those are the ones that heard what I said to them at some point. I never really have liked Roth IRAs and probably never will. Like you, my clientele is primarily middle America or lower. I only have a handful of fairly wealthy clients and they are trained to ask for advice before they make a move.

My assistant has her own phone login for her computer. We work exactly the same as you. She has a second authenticator on HER phone for my computer in case something would happen to me and nobody is able to access the finished returns. Have her set up her own authenticator on her computer with HER phone..We spent half a day figuring this out, but it worked and we are both much relieved. In my case, she has 2 separate authenticators on her phone because the phone is tied to the computer.

I also charge flat fees for prep and base them on the circumstances. No complaints so far. I do not charge for calls and questions throughout the year. I tell them that I am available for them all year and not just during tax season. I would rather get a heads up than a surprise later. If paperwork is involved, there is a small fee to cover costs.

I had my post hospital checkup today and Doc thinks it is a very good idea if I wear a good mask for in person, sit down clients. I think so too. As Sara said, I would find it boring to only do personal returns. On the other hand, we haven't done Estates, Trusts or Corps for several years. I relish Partnerships (small) because I have been doing one for 50 years. My husband's business is a Partnership. We aren't taking any new business returns either, though I did bow to accept a new girl with a daycare because of her references. This possibly could be my last year, depending on how my health continues to improve. I have a buyer on hold and an assistant anxious to take over. I hate and resent the way that they are trying to regulate us while all the knock off preparers are out there doing whatever they want. We have several clients with E and other C businesses and one Joint Venture. Therein lies the revenue and my spending money for one more year, at least.

I'm getting the feeling that clients are afraid that we won't have room for them if they don't lock in their appointment early. Apparently the word is out that hardly anyone is taking new clients. BUT, these are mostly longtime clients who are calling. There must be some scare word going around or else they are just afraid that the laws will be totally different this year. Anybody have any ideas on this?

Margaret, my client gets a W2 from a Texas Company. He is actually an engineer. However, they withhold state taxes for Colorado, Louisiana or wherever they send him. Mostly now he works in Texas. When I first met him, he was so far in the hole that you couldn't see the bottom. I just told him how proud I am of what he has done with his life. However, filing two or three NR forms as well as Wisconsin has just become too much of a burden. Sometimes we have to step back and think of what is best for the client. I do think that you are on the right track with your client. Being self-employed is an entirely different ballgame. -

I had a client change his Domecile to Texas instead of Wisconsin because he is there much more than he is here. Also, Texas does not have Income Tax and he travels to different states for construction. Yet, his base right now is Texas, but he has rentals in Wisconsin and just recently aquired some in Texas. I also advised him to find a tax preparer in Texas as it is getting too difficult to track his activities. Nice guy and I hate to lose him but I believe that someone closer could do a better job for him. Will see what he decides. -
I have several appointments already set in Feb. One this coming Thurs in regard to an old return. We haven't even decided yet if we are taking new clients or not and they are already calling or e-mailing. Unfortunately, I have to work around several needed medical and dental appts in Jan and Feb and also try to get my assistant "in the mood". I had an offer to sell a month ago. Maybe I should rethink that as it is an open offer. Just so many medical bills for 24 and 25. I really wanted to work at least one more year and then taper down. My potential buyer will work with whatever I want to do. I really wanted my assistant to be ready to take over a good part of my practice. Decisions! Decisions!

Talk about luck! I just had a client from 2019 come in with a CP11 asking for just short of 4K. They aren't disallowing the exemption for the daughter who was in college, but they are disallowing the LLC and Tuition Credits because they say that the 8863 was incomplete or not attached to the return. This client hasn't been back since that year but he wants me to fix it. I pulled up his return and printed the forms that the IRS said that they never received. That is all that I plan on doing. He can pick up the printed returne and contact the IRS himself. They wouldn't talk to me anyway. This is from 5 years ago. What are they doing in their spare time? I have clients who still have not received their 22 and 23 returns. I might jump ship with Margaret. -
I feel your pain. It just hit me this morning that we are back to real life today. I am not finished resting.

Contact your educator. Mine was uploaded within a few days of completion of the course.

So, we have come full circle once again. I hope that you all have a productive and prosperous New Year. I believe it may be a difficult one as mine is already starting out that way with two days to go. Phone, text and cell have all been busy already. They just don't want to let me get away. I have signed on for another year and am looking at other options going forward. Health and time will be the deciding factors. I want to thank you all sincerely for all the help that you have given me and I want to wish you a very Happy and Healthy New Year 2025.
