  1. Was in Walmart yesterday, and they have Jackson Hewitt set up and, of course, advertising that "You don't have to wait". Guess they are doing loans again, and PRETENDING that the check the client gets is his/her "refund" rather than a loan against the future refund. But they know their market, I guess.
  2. Time to up his fee AGAIN!!! If he agrees, you ease your aggravation. If he decides to go to someone else, you still ease your aggravation.
  3. I agree. Also, it does cover more than animal rescue, it's a well written [iMHO] ruling that clarifies when a t/p can deduct costs of assisting charitable organizations.
  4. OK, Don, I did not realize that everyone can not see that line, but it actually makes perfect sense. The whole idea of a 'warning' is to let someone know if their post is going over the line. I will just share with you all that there are almost zero warnings among our members. We are actually a very civil and kind group, If you should feel a post goes too far, you have the "Report" button, which sends a message to the moderators to alert us to review the post. I do not remember but a handful of those since the board started, I'm happy to say.
  5. Very funny, Tom. As I never go to the 'other' board, don't know what THEY do. But I've done nothing, as you would know if you look at other members. EVERYONE has that line. Notice almost everyone has zero there. Someone has to get pretty ticked off to decide to 'warn' about a post. Certainly none of your posts fit that description.
  6. In a groundbreaking victory for animal rescuers around the country, one California animal foster fought the Internal Revenue Service in court – and won! As a result of Van Dusen v. Commissioner, animal rescuers nationwide that are fostering dogs and/or cats for approved charities may claim the expenses during tax time. http://dogingtonpost...our-foster-dog/
  7. Another good resource to help in dissecting the new law http://www.accountingtoday.com/news/Fiscal-Cliff-Deal-Far-Reaching-Tax-Implications-65223-1.html?ET=webcpa:e6519:125313a:&st=email
  8. You are certainly a welcome 'newbie' here. The classifications really do not mean much, it's sort of a 'fun' designation, but does give you a clue, if you find yourself interested in or questioning a post, whether there is a good buildup of posts from that person, which you can go look at by clicking on their pic and choosing to look at their other posts. And rarely, but occasionally, it's indicated a 'troll' who either just got on here to push some company or product, or to attack someone, or posted under a different name, possibly for the same reasons. We do not take kindly to such posts, and delete them when we find them.
  9. Yes, it is certainly way past time for this to have been corrected.
  10. And don't forget that most of the people making between 250K and 450K are subject to AMT, so their technical 'rate' is seldom what the tax tables say, anyway.
  11. The good news? Scientists wielding electron microscopes were able to detect in the small print of the fiscal cliff bill around $15 billion in spending cuts. The bad news? There are some $620 billion in tax increases — about 41 times as much as any taxpayer savings. Time for some politicians to grow up.

Microsoft is warning users of older versions of Internet Explorer that a big vulnerability could let hackers into their computer. If you use IE 6, 7 or 8, it's time to switch or upgrade

Ladies, if a man says he will fix it, he will. There is no need to remind him every 6 months about it !
  17. That is a good point, Cat, They do tend to run in packs, don't they?
  18. LOL
  19. The only really good news I've heard so far is that they are FINALLY going to make the indexing of the AMT permanent. ,

    Same to you !!!!!
  21. Stan, if you have not already done so, look in the forms list for 'Client Referral' and check it out. It's an easy way to increase the number of referrals you get, and to also let you keep up with who your best 'referrers' are. Those folks should be on your special Christmas list for some small gift, just so they know that you appreciate them.

  23. Gail just was pointing out that if there had been reinvested dividends you would have to look at two different groups of shares, the original ones and the ones bought with the dividends. By the way, her username is Gailtaxed, ATX Master is a classification that indicates the level of input on this board. New members like yourself are classed as Newbie, and as your number of posts increase, you will move up to higher classifications.
  24. It did not sound good to me, but no doubt there will be some people who will try it. I don't doubt, though, that they will regret it.
  25. Now, Cat, you know I don't do that! I just thought I should share the PC Approved version that my lawyer son shared with me.
