Well, better to get it right than to get it fast, IMHO. Especially as the IRS has the same problems, and has delayed everything on their end. Any one know if the other software companies are having similar issues?
-
OK, then, it's not on his personal return at all, then, Jainen's answer is correct.

Has anyone gotten a demo to look at.? I really doubt that CCH would be selling through a reseller. I know they did one year, through TRX, but they ended that pretty soon, so it's hard to imagine they are doing it again.

Glad you fought the good fight and won, It's sad that often the t/p will just give up and pay up even though they are in the right, because the IRS can cause them to have to spend a lot of money to fight the issue. Your client has enough funds to make it worth the fight, but often t/p's don't. The IRS knows that, and sometimes abuses the system just because they can bully with an unlimited budget for fighting the case.

Terry, I understand what you mean, but this year because the IRS is not going to allow any processing [even on paper] of returns with C's, E's, 4562s, etc, because they do not have their software working on those, I don't think we should expect any software to be able to do them yet. It's frustrating, sure, but it's just how it is for everyone right now. I'd really be interested in hearing from members who use other software, as to how their software's are looking so far. I know we have Drake, ProSeries, ProSystem fx, etc users who still participate here. Lion is no help on this one, since she is not even bothering to install it yet. Which I personally think is SMART. I absolutely can not see anyone rolling over all their returns now. I used to do that years ago, but not for the last 10 years. Given all the late tax code changes, all the software companies have for years now had to do multiple 'updates', so rolling over early does not save you a thing, it just means you have to update the rolled return all over again when you do finally start to work on it. Any way, if you use another software, please share with us how your download went, and how the rollovers are going, or not going, etc. If nothing else, it may put things more into perspective.

" I have a TP who got a reverse mortgage 220k. He paid 8k in points to get loan." Please clarify whether he paid the 8K himself, at the time of the loan, or whether it was just accrued on the mortgage? If in fact he did actually PAY the points, that would make a real difference.

You will have to do better than that JB!!!!!!

WASHINGTON -- The Internal Revenue Service says late changes to federal tax laws should mean only a short delay for most taxpayers to file their 2012 returns. The agency said Tuesday that more than 120 million taxpayers – about 80 percent of all filers – should be able to start filing their federal returns on Jan. 30. Others will have to wait until late February or March to file because the agency needs time to update and test its systems. Those who will have to wait include people claiming residential energy credits, depreciation of property or general business credits. The filing season had been slated to start Jan. 22 but was delayed because of the big tax package passed by Congress Jan. 1. Wonder how many of those early filers will see Jan 30 as a SLIGHT delay?

And that is the best way to ease them out, because when they tell you that and you are nice about it, you keep the good feelings.

ATX is telling users that there will be an update on the 10th, that should fix this problem. Hope they are right.
-
Happy to hear that, Lydia. Glad to see you back on the board.
-
I understand that Deb. I am just saying THAT TODAY IS JAN 6th. It's too early to panic.
-
Thanks for sharing that, Marco. I had not heard it, but I can believe it that there are that many stupid people out there.
-
I think you are going to have a real problem this year with this item: Inform customers of the reasonable period of time they can expect to wait for a refund.
-
Tom, I'm listening. I understand your frustration. I just think it's too early to panic. I feel sure they will get these problems fixed real soon. I think the best thing to do at this point is take your sweet wife out for a nice night on the town, and just forget about the software for the rest of the weekend. Monday, have a nice breakfast, and try again.

I'd definitely inflate my quote for one like this. Heck, handled right you might train him into being a great client, but start him high enough that you smile when you deal with him.
-
No, you'd have to go a LOT further to get a warning from me. And I seriously doubt that Jainen would 'report' you for such a response. Heck, he's been answered much more sharply than that, and I don't think he's ever 'reported' anyone. Although why would he, when he's perfectly capable of defending himself if needed! ? ;)

Go back and read this thread from the start, it's already explained, you must have skipped a few posts.

But to give up on them on JAN 5 is sort of extreme, don't you think? When a 157 page tax change was only written and passed 4 days ago? I just think you are over-reacting for such an early date, Tom. They have always come through, and I expect they will this time too. I understand how frustrating it is, but have a heart, it's the fault of the idiots in DC, not the software companies.
-
No you don't! I see zero warnings on your acct

Patience, friends. You know there are always problems early, but given the massive FAIL in DC this year, you have to assume there are going to be issues for a while. I know it's a pain living through the early software issues, but you also know they WILL be fixed. And honestly, I would not be rolling over returns yet, period. Except for a TEST return or two. It's going to be changed several times before they get all the code changes into the software, because you know that there are so many ways that one seemingly simple change can end up affecting multiple other forms. We need to accept that reality and give the software folks time to get those entire 157 pages incorporated.
-
Yes, it's great when they give us such a detailed ruling, that lets us know just what they need to allow the the deduction. And it gives us solid support for the deductions we claim, as long as we make sure they have the documentation. It's so much easier when we can give them a print out that clearly tells them why we can't take what they can not document.
-
Good riddance, but I do not think you should access her accounts any more. I believe that would be considered an ethical violation, if it came out.

But since everyone knows about the delay, they should at least understand why you can not give them a rush.
