For anyone who is not aware of it, you CAN set 'friends' on this forum. Look at the very top of the page, click on your name, and look at the menu that pops up. One of the options is 'Manage Friends'. There you can select members to add to your Friends list. You also have the option to "Ignore" a member who you find too irritating , and then you will not see that person's posts. I've never used that, but there was a time........almost did............but Bob left the board before I got quite that far. LOL Anyway, if you have never gone to 'your profil'e, you should check out the options there.

Yeah, it's funny, in AR many times they can itemize on the state even though they don't have enough to itemize on the Fed, because the state Std deduction is pretty low. And to get it into the state form, you enter the info in the Federal A. So I had some clients who just "assumed" that they itemized because there was an A in their copies. never looked at the Fed page 2 to see which number was on there.

Good, I knew they were working on fixing that.

Yes, the withdrawal is exempt from the extra 'premature withdrawal' penalty, up to 6K in your example. Both the medical expenses and the withdrawals are based on the totals for the year, rather than matched to timing during the year.

Dave, you have it backwards. The home state will give credit for the taxes in the non-resident states.

Override is the only way.

That is the whole point about the Roth. The contributions are not DEDUCTIBLE, but the earnings are not TAXABLE. Wonderful when you reach the end and start taking it out. Especially great for young workers who don't need the deductions because they are not making much,as long as they leave it alone until they are old. All those years of earnings are totally tax free.

Hey, don't beat yourself up over this. We all occasionally lose track of one point while thinking of another. And many of us have pets who are an important part of our practice. My dogs have been part of my professional life for years, and many of my clients would greet my 'Little Bit' [see my picture] before they spoke to me. She, of course, thought they came to see her! But the value she had to me was unmeasurable. From her forcing me to take the occasional break to let her have a walk, to her uncanny ability to know when I was feeling stressed, and coming over and insisting on cuddling against me until I stopped to pet her. Which always helped reduce my stress. And her ability to distract a fussy child was extremely valuable to me. I love the dogs I have now, but I will always miss Little Bit.

Dave is correct. If it is a requirement in his denomination, [the case in several Pentecostal denominations, I know] then it is a business deduction. I've won that one in several audits.

Joan, I'm so sorry for you. It's always so hard to lose a beloved friend/family member. But Fob is still in your heart, always.

Thank you all so much. I'm feeling pretty good, all things considered Trying to follow all the rules, deep breathing, etc. I find it really amazing how they can do major surgery with such tiny incisions. I'm happy about it though. It's a great way to do it.

They are lovely.

Well, friends, I had the surgery yesterday, and it was good news all around. The cancer was isolated and had not spread, so it's all out now, and a full recovery is expected. They were able to do the robotic procedure so my recovery should be fairly rapid. I want to thank you all for your prayers, which I am convinced helped me a lot. Only thing bad right now is that laughing hurts! And you know how much I like adding a good laugh to my day, especially this time of year.

Don't know about the sign-out issue, I selected the option to stay signed in. But on the unreviewed posts, if you have read them they go gray, BUT if a new post is added, then they show black again But if you click in the dot in front, it will show you only the new posts since your last view.

You need to see some paperwork on this. Does not sound like the broker is giving clear options, but if she inherited this, she should have the option to take the money into her own name, whether it is taxable or not.
-
It should flow if you have all the correct boxes checked, 'active', etc..

That is what we try to do.

Joan is correct, but left off something. Since he is assumed, for tax purposes to stay over the weekend, you take the per diem for all 7 days. And mileage to and from home once.

"She says she earns approximately $22K in the year." How convenient that she earned just about the perfect amount for max EIC.

I'd go with your last paragraph, since the assets were not disposed of.
