  1. I would put it on the E, and take the related expenses.
  2. Sorry, AR still requires corp and partnerships to be mailed
  3. Hey, come on now. I was somewhat aggressive in fighting for my client's LEGAL tax deductions, but never knowingly did anything illegal for them. And I certainly did not do it for me! I know you were just teasing, Tom, but please, that is not funny.
  4. This is slightly political, but it's so darned funny I just had to share it. And it's Jimmy Kimble, who is certainly not a Republican partisan. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=174668762680922&set=vb.361783440570560&type=2&theater
  5. Yes, that is a great option. Just don't share the chocolate with them, it's harmful to dogs.
  6. We all tend to resist change, but when it gets to me, I remind myself that when any living thing stops changing, it dies. [Then it starts changing in reverse, not something I want to do just yet!]
  7. Cathy, sent you a PM. Look at the very top right corner of the page if you are not familiar with those.
  8. Did you try just opening the return and then making the change and then creating the state efile?
  9. Sounds like a printer gremlin rather than a software one. Usually means you have been working too long without a break, and need to reboot both the computer and yourself. I always found chocolate helped at such times!.
  10. They are not yet available on the IRS site either, but there is nothing in the 1041 instructions about requiring that they be filed electronically.
  11. Sorry Joan. I understand your natural sympathy for your client. We all hate it when something bad happens to a client, and wish we could help them. BUT, you can't on this one. It was not a casualty, and it is not a medical cost because it improves the value of the home. She's a victim of her own error in not having an inspection done before buying the house. ESPECIALLY given that it was a short sale, which meant she knew she could not expect to go back against the seller if problems were found. Even a cursory inspection of the roof would have found the problem. My guess is that she skipped the obvious step because the price appeared to be a bargain. Hopefully, when the costs are added to her basis, she's still got a nice house with a reasonable basis.

  13. If a company provides employees with funds for public transit, that is a non-taxable fringe. http://www.irs.gov/publications/p15b/ar02.html#en_US_2013_publink1000193740
  14. Based on that, I do not think it meets the description in Pub 970, "An eligible educational institution is any college, university, vocational school, or other postsecondary educational institution eligible to participate in a student aid program administered by the U.S. Department of Education.
  15. Yes.
  16. Perhaps this might help: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Job-Search-Expenses-Can-be-Tax-Deductible
  17. That, to me means his price paid was $14000.
  18. All those attorneys, at least half of which are Democrats, btw, play that same game. And it may surprise you to know that I agree with you. I think the gov should only pay for those who TRULY need care and TRULY are unable to pay. I'd like to see the laws tightened up, but we all know that the rich lawyers in the gov don't want to close the holes they intend to use.
  19. You know they never do that. I think they think we have fun sorting all this out. And after all, both her hair dresser and her cooking group told them to do it that way!
  20. I think "gruntled" is on a 1065. Or is that the 1120S?
  21. That is all you can do, JB. Live life the best you can, we never know how long we have, so we should not waste our time, or ever skip saying something nice to those we love.
  22. Julie, if that were my client, I'd advise him to NOT trade his car in the next time. Have him sell it outright. Then he can use whatever he gets for it as a downstroke on the new car. and he gets to write off the loss on the old one. It's a shame he did not do that this year.
  23. Receive Acks is what you click on to update transmitted returns.
  24. Joel, my post was not directed at you, your post just happened to be just before mine. I love your jokes. My post was just a general comment on the other board.
