  1. You bring back a lot of memories. I could have written every word you wrote. Remember when you applied for a SSN when you got your first job? I started teaching Accounting at ASU in '75 and I made it a point in my Tax classes to introduce the students to some of the basic forms. Of course, back then there were a lot fewer forms, too. But I'd give them a Sch C, for example, to solve a problem on. I did not want them to be like me, having gotten an M.B.A. in Accounting without ever seeing a single tax form.
  2. One word - Immodium. A very wonderful solution. If you know a food you love disagrees with your system, take two shortly before you eat it.
  3. Nothing to do but wait.
  4. Just like the Medicare premium on the SSA form.
  5. I'd be willing to bet he did not give the 1099-C to the preparer who actually filed his return.
  6. I agree with Jainen. You CAN file the form, by itself, and if the numbers work, like when the innocent spouse has all or most of the withholding, they WILL get the refund. Don't know how IRS works that out with lenders, and don't care. It does work.
  7. Speaking of paper.........................watch this one foer a good smile. http://videos.komando.com/watch/2977/kims-picks-we-still-need-paper?utm_medium=nl&utm_source=tvkim&utm_content=2013-03-15-article-screen-shot-h
  8. I think the important thing, and also the thing clients never want to hear, is that unless he's a commercial fisherman or running a charter boat, etc he can not do a darn thing, tax wise, with the boat. No deduction unless its one of the following: Vessels, barges, tugs, and similar water transportation equipment. Those are 10 yr property.
  9. I too started by filing directly. The first one was scary but fun. Don't remember who it was, just that I had big hopes for it.
  10. Give it a rest Lion. She told you she checked everything, why are you so determined that she overlooked the most obvious? That is not like you, dear friend.
  11. I do love it, but it's just not practical to cook it for one. Think I'll go to Arby's tomorrow for a Ruben, though. Pretty fair compromise.
  12. Yes, my state does not require an attorney, either. But it's always a good starting point to ask. I would not file a 1041 unless its for the executor. I'd rather file a Scd D showing the money from the sale of the "inherited" property, and move on. If a 1041 does show up later, [doubtful] deal with it then. Given that you do have info on the sale, etc, odds are there will be no problem.

I'd look at it both ways, but unless the MFJ is SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER, I'd avoid filing jointly when they are about to split.
  14. Oh, I love corned beef and cabbage. But not everyone does, of course. Adding one tablespoon of sugar will not effect the taste but will reduce [not totally eliminate] the distinct smell of the corned beef and cabbage.
  15. WARNING: Some knew about the red light on cars, but not Dialing 112. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her to never pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc. Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called, 112 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way. Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes. I never knew about the 112 Cell Phone feature. I tried it on my AT&T phone & it said, "Dialing Emergency Number." Especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going on to a safe place. *Speaking to a service representative at Bell Mobility confirmed that 112 was a direct link to State trooper info. So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about "Dialing, 112" You may want to send this to every Man, Woman & Youngster you know; it may well save a life. This applies to ALL 50 states PLEASE PASS ALONG TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY, IT CAN SAVE A LIFE...
  16. Why not just use this board and forget them?
  17. I don't think so, TR. If there was I missed it.
  18. Tom and Ken are both people I respect and consider friends, so I hope at this point we all let this one end here. Sometimes it's just best to agree to disagree.
  19. Sounds right to me, Tom. But will be interested in Mike's opinion, he's the expert on the subject.
  20. Yeah, I hate it when that's the best advice I can give. But when it's their error, there is really no other answer.
  21. Oh, I misunderstood. LOL
  22. I think the only thing you can do is keep on trying to get to a level where someone who understands is able to help you clear this up. The first level workers basically just answer the phones and give automated responses off a computer screen. Anyone else getting these yet?
  23. An old man walks into the barbershop for shave and a haircut, but he tells the barber he can't get all his whiskers off because his cheeks are wrinkled from age. The barber gets a little wooden ball from a cup on the shelf and tells him to put it inside his cheek to spread out the skin. When he's finished, the old man tells the barber that was the cleanest shave he's had in years. But he wanted to know what would have happened if he had swallowed that little ball. The barber replied, "Just bring it back in a couple of days like everyone else does."
  24. ALL MOTHERS OF 13 YR OLD SONS HAVE THAT FEAR. And it's not at all irrational. LOL
  25. I just have to share this info about a great place to buy unique dog [or cat] ID Tags. This company is wonderful to work with. My picture was too small and blurry, Jason emailed me and asked for more pictures so he could make sure the tag looked good. That "going the extra mile" is fantastic customer service. AND THE TAGS ARE FANTASTIC TOO. YOU DESIGN THEM YOURSELF. CHECK IT OUT. https://www.facebook.com/PetIDforMe/app_208195102528120
