  1. Being asked to upgrade to IE 11. Any thought? Will call ProSeries on Monday for thier advise. August @ ADGFinancial.com
  2. Got my conversions back from ProSeries and have pulled two returns into 2013. Don't see any problems so far. I just do 1040's and they didn't say they had any problems converting the files. As the clients come in I will check more fully. August @ ADG Financial.com
  3. Well ProSeries promised that the 2014 tax program would be ready today for download and it was! I just installed it. Of course it's just a shell but it nice to be working with a company that has it's act together. August @ ADG Financial.com
  4. My IT guy recommended I get a SSD drive. He showed me that in the 4 years that I had my last computer I used only 60 GB of my 500GB of hard drive space. So this time I got a 120GB SSD drive and it's really fast. I only use it for business about 600 returns a year. August @ ADG Financial.Com
  5. The ATX site says 11/25. ProSeries is 11/8 for a download. August @ ADG Financial.com
  6. Yes, they change the law. Now it's 1, it was 10. Now it not more that 1. It's at least 1. They want the $100. bucks. August
  7. I'm in NY, in Stone Ridge, attended a NATP NY seminar late last week.. The new requirement for next year is if you do 1 NY tax return anywhere in the US next year, you must register with NY if you,re just a guy doing taxes. The usual professionals are excluded. The fee is $100. New York State is broke and will be checking and assessing a fine of $250. If caught. NYS will drop the fine if you register within 90 days of being caught. The state is broke and going after every penny they can. August @ ADG Financial.com
  8. OK, before I purchased my new Win 7 machine I checked with ProSeries and ATX both advised against Win 8. They said that the 2014 would work with Win 8 but programs before 2014 might have problems. I might be able to do a 2012 or 2011 return but it might not save correctly. I'm saying before I invest the dollars call your software provider and check with them. I do returns for people that haven't filed in years. So sometimes I need to do a 2009 or other year. I keep a XP machine for just in case I have a really old return. Why not ask? August @ ADG Financial.com
  9. Naveen, You really need the I7 processor. The Speed isn't that important. I don't think you can go forward with ATX without it. You could have problems. Also make sure you get a Win 7 machine. Check with ATX support. August @ ADG Financial.com
  10. Using this slow time to get ready for the new tax season. We do a rather large mailing and are having problems making the mail label part of the 2012 program to work correctly. Go figure. We use Avery 5160. Never been a problem in the past now can't get them to align properly. Anyone have suggestion? August @ ADG Financial.com
  11. Look Folks these are business decisions. If by Feb. 15th the ATX program isn't working and you have done 30 returns. You have most likely made $4000. or more. Don't pay them and ask for a refund. As most know I've moved to ProSeries and won't repeat last year. If you all have a great 2014 maybe I'll be back. I'm not sure. Just look at it in black and white terms. If you want to stay take them at their word and take the no risk offer. I think that your over thinking this. August @ ADG Financial.Com
  12. You should know by the end of Feb ? if the program is any good. August

  15. Got this today from ATX. This have been improved. Try again. Customer Support Improvements We want to tell you about some of the changes we have made recently to improve your Customer Support experience in the upcoming tax season. Phone System Upgrade - A brand new phone system will enable us to more quickly route your call to the right resource. And, during high volume periods, you may opt to be placed in line for a call back from us instead of continuing on hold. Expanded Remote Assistance - More of our Support agents will have the ability to access your computer remotely to resolve issues, with your permission. Streamlined Processes - We have streamlined several processes, including the steps required to reset your ADMIN password when you are locked out of the MyATX Solution Center. 17. We use the Dome Software in the office for Bookkeeping. It's a great little program for the price. http://www.domeproductsonline.com/software/ August @ adgfinancial.com
  18. JohnH well said. I switched to ProSeries and since the break with ATX feel much better. It was worth the small price increase. I've done about 45 returns so far and that program is also logical and intuitive. The support is great. I feel good about next year. August @ ADGFinancial.com
  19. Well, I got my new computer and put ProSeries on 2009 to 12. Was ready to put ATX 2012 on but after reading all this will leave it off. Have sent my ATX Client files to ProSeries for conversion and will be ready for the new tax year. Won't have it up and running until November as I'm finishing this year with the old computer and will keep the old system up and running for the ATX returns. Still have about 10 returns to do in ProSeries. Just a few things I don't like but I'm happy. Support is great. August @ ADG Financial.com
  20. New York State Proposes Regulating Preparers Albany, N.Y. (September 25, 2013) By Jeff Stimpson Tax preparers are beginning to respond to the recent proposal by the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to further regulate paid preparers. The department has proposed amendments to its Personal Income Tax Regulations and Procedural Regulations (N.Y. Comp. Codes R. & Regs, tit. 20, proposed Part 2600) to impose minimum standards on who can become a return preparer, a continuing education requirement and a competency exam. New York, which for five years has required preparers to register with the state, proposes that preparers meet applicable IRS requirements; take a 16-hour basic tax course if new to preparing New York State personal income tax returns; pass a New York State competency exam; and take four hours of CPE in New York State personal income tax topics annually. The department estimates that beginning preparers will incur an initial annual cost of $605 for CPE tuition and time spent completing CPE coursework. Beginning preparers who have satisfied their initial annual requirements, as well as experienced preparers, will pay an estimated annual cost of $151. There will also be a one-time additional cost of approximately $31 for time spent completing the competency exam, plus a fee for taking the exam. New York expects to spend some $800,000 to start the regulation, according to state estimates. The proposed ruling comes as the IRS appeals to reinstate preparer regulation nationwide. “It was just a matter of time before states started imposing their own rules. States will have a much easier time withstanding court challenges,” noted one writer on the “The rule protects [New York State] taxpayers from unscrupulous and incompetent tax preparation without imposing undue burdens on tax return preparers,” reads one supporting document for the Albany proposal. “The education, testing and disciplinary provisions will enhance the competency and integrity of the tax preparation industry.” This and other documents also call paid preparers “commercial tax preparers.” As with the IRS RTRP proposal of last year, attorneys, Enrolled Agents and CPAs and their employees who prepare returns under their supervision are not considered return preparers for the purposes of these proposed rules. “Duh!” wrote Robert D Flach on his blog The Wandering Tax Pro. “Enrolled Agents are certainly tax return preparers, and attorneys, public accountants, CPAs and ‘supervised’ employees thereof may very well be tax return preparers -- but apparently not as ‘commercial tax return preparer’ is defined in the law.”
  21. Well I finally ran into my first problem with ProSeries. I've done about 45 returns so far and it's a great program, easy to learn. But it finally happen. Doing a New York return and no IT-204-IP. 95% of the time the K-1 will not change from the Federal to the State but this time is does and no form to make the changes on. Called ProSeries and they checked and were surprise that the form wasn't there. Said they would work on it. Nice to work with knowable people, better customer service than ATX. They had an answer for a work around and said put it on line 31 as a subtraction. Seems to work. Thought I would let those making the change to keep their eyes open. August @ ADG Financial
  22. HP for next couple of weeks are offering Win 7 machines and then then are gone. So if you think you will need to replace your older computer now would be a good time to get one. I did. They are available at the online store. August @ ADG Financial.com
