  1. Client came and told me don't forget that I have to repay my first time home buyers credit. I forgot to do it! I e-filed it and just remembered. Went to check and thought I would have to do an amended return and explain to client that I didn't do it. But good news. I did it last year and ProSeries remembered and just put it in. I didn't have to do it. Is this a great program or what!
  2. Hope all you ProSeries users are checking over on the ProSeries chat room. There is a lot of good information being shared there on the program usage. I for one am getting a lot of good information on program usage and tips.
  3. I have 3 ready to go but always wait until 2 days before the last date of the of the first week to file. It's been a busy first day but I don't want to be the first in. Let the IRS screw up someone else's return.
  4. In case you missed it today on the ProSeries Site. They came out with a ACA interview guide for use in doing a return. https://intuitcorp.quickbase.com/db/bjbbcmui8?a=dbpage&pageID=6&rid=35 Looks like it will be useful. I haven't played with it a lot but at first pass it asks the right questions of the client.
  5. This was on the ProSeries site today: Based on your feedback, we will be including Form 3115, Application for Change in Accounting Method, in a future release of ProSeries 2014. Right now, that release is scheduled for late January. And we still don't know when or if it will be included in ProSeries Basic. You can read more here [http://accountants.intuit.com/support/tax/proseries/document.jsp?product=PROSERIES_TAX&id=INF27444].

  7. So another update to the program came in. So I gave it a test. I put in a $20,000 profit to a Sch C client who I'm sure doesn't have health insurance. Checked the box on the interview page then looked at line 61 and there it was a $95 penalty. So things seem to be working the way they should.
  8. Michael, I not Ken. I know Ken. I'm not him. August @ ADG Financial.Com
  9. Well, with the latest updates for the program. On general info worksheet the check box for full year coverage is working. I'm just working with my return of course but in checking it, it goes to line 61 and seems to work.
  10. On the NSA daily feed this morning it was stated that Drake will issue their Form 3115 for the 1040 by the end of Jan. I would think that ProSeries would do the same. I just think it's early to worry.
  11. I think it's too early to worry about this. I hope it's made available.
  12. I know what you mean. The forum does have some rather snarky people on it, I think they think they are funny. I would like a subforum here as I seem to keep coming back here for tax information. Seems like a great idea!
  13. I can't believe you would want to go back. I been with ProSeries the same length of time and enjoying it. Will never go back. Why would you?
  14. I've attended 2 ACA Seminars got some great info. But just come across this website which might be helpful in explaining to client the exemptions. https://www.healthcare.gov/fees-exemptions/exemptions-from-the-fee/
  15. As a ProSeries user you will find ProSeries Support very easy to work with. Wait until they are open to call them on Monday. They will pick up the phone and actually help you. If you have been using ATX you probably are afraid to ask for help from support. Don't be that way with ProSeries.
  16. Went to John Sheeley's ACA Seminar in Albany, NY yesterday and it was good. Learn a lot. To much to relate here. We all need training on this. A couple of points. Have folks bring insurance cards in and plan on extra time to do a return. It was worth the $99. to go to a 4 hour seminar.
  17. I misspoke it was just the 2012 return with the problem. The 2013 return was OK.
  18. Had a problem e-filing 2012 & 2013 NY returns today. Were rejected. Didn't like my PTIN. Code: R0800. Had to change my PTIN to my SSN and resubmit. Checked with ProSeries and this is a known error with New York State since Sept 21st. Anyone else having this problem?. The problem seems on NY State's end.
  19. It still works that way in ProSeries but suggests a partnership in the help screen.
  20. MCB39, I left ATX in April of 2012 for ProSeries they gave me the programs all the way back to 2009 as well as 2012 at no charge. So if someone leaves it's not a problem. ATX wouldn't help me if I asked now anyway.
  21. I'm a NY preparer. In NY the NATP is offering the courses. I'm signed up for this year. They are on the NYS site. I guess it's just going to be a fact of life going forward. I'm sure there will be a online program for next year.
  22. We keep records for 5 years in plastic tubs in records storage off site and also in electronic format on flash drives in a fire proof lock box . We use to keep just electronic format on our computer and had a total computer failure and lost everything. We were backing up to a data storage site in Utah and found out that was a waste of time. They provided no assistance in getting our data back. Lost everything. Our system now seems to work for us.
  23. MAS, as a Life agent and planner I would need to know your age. I usually do a 25,000 WL and $100,000 Term mix. When the Term stops you have the WL for final expenses. Also do you have a family or mortgage to pay off for them if you should die. The Term amount could go up. But as you get older the Term number will go down as your debts go down and the cost go way up. But still you will need the WL. I would think 25K would be enough unless your a very poor saver and believe me in my many years in business I've seen many.
  24. The annual Software survey is out and can be obtain at their website if your a member.
