  1. I also enter a generic item such as "rent" and it accepts it. I have efiled several with Schedule E etc with 4562 and have had no problems. Both ATX and the IRS are apparently ready for these types of returns. If you are unable to file these than you apparently do not have the latest form update or the latest program update. (12.9)
  2. But the "other income" then goes on line 1 of Schedule E which is the rents received line. If you click on the Form tab you are able to see this. On the input tab it says: "Other income received not reported on 1099 MISC".
  3. Enter the income on the "Other Income" tab at the bottom of Schedule E. Fifth tab to the right.
  4. Saturday PM I finally got around to install a "Douwe Egbert" coffee machine at the office. Now there is always fresh coffee ready and available at the push of a button. However this morning I realized that this is totally messing with my normal routine. For 20+ years, one of the first things I did after getting up in the morning is start the coffee brewing. This morning I didn't have to do that. I was almost confused getting ready for work this morning. Anybody else have any messed up routines this year? P.S. I wrote this message while waiting for ATX 2012 to open my next client's file.
  5. I use "Restore Field" in this field and it disappears. Just FYI.
  6. at first glance I thought the title said: "Spouse has no int" I was gonna say that sounds more like a personal problem than a tax problem if your spouse has no interest in you.
  7. OH COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ATX has been worse for me today than it has been all season. Continually crashing for no obvious reasons. If it wouldn't be that I was expecting the update early tomorrow (Friday) morning, I would have totally freaked out today. Now you say it will be delayed till Saturday?? (Lord, please give me patience........ BUT I WANT THEM NOW!!!)
  8. *make sure program is updated and all forms are updated. *verify that all boxes are checked that are required and non are checked that should not be. *use "restore field" for any fields that you might have deleted info in. *if nothing else works, I have had to discard some forms and then reload them. some other ideas: *walk around your chair counter-clockwise three times. *hold your breath for the entire time it takes ATX to open the return. *call ATX customer support with your only open phone line. That way no one can call asking "when will my refund be here" for at least 6 hours.
  9. Got it too! "Thou shalt not tempt me"
  10. If it's just a W2 or so, I will do a quick adding machine estimate and a "ball park" refund amount for no charge. But I do not start a file or enter any information in ATX.
  11. MAS... I had that same issue when I first set up the net setup. I got through to tech support and a fellow knew exactly what to do to correct it. He said the program is saving the files to two separate folders or something like that and he fixed it. I wish I could tell you what he did and how, but I'm not tech savvy enough to know. After he made the corrections, all files are visible on all workstations.
  12. Just got the following email: Effective 9:00 am Eastern time on Sunday, February 10, 2013, the IRS will start processing 2012 returns that contain Form 4562, Depreciation and Amortization. This will include the Form 1040-family tax returns, Form 1065/1065-B, Form 1120-family tax returns and Form 990-family tax returns. On Thursday, February 14, 2013, the IRS plans to start processing 2012 returns that contain Form 8863, Education Credits.
  13. We also have been having the occasional issues with the program crashing, not being able to get into the returns etc. And the program is definately a lot slower than in the past. However, we have completed or are processing 347 returns as of this morning. So I guess I am considering myself fortunate to be able to have this much accomplished compared to some. (still approx 250 returns behind schedule) It does seem to help with the speed etc if we reboot the server at least daily, and the workstations several times a day. Not sure why it should make a difference, but it does. We are a 4 preparer office operating on a server/workstation setup.
  14. Bart, Do you not have access to the ATX support website? I do have the update saved to a thumb drive, but I'm curious why you don't just download it from the site.
  15. This morning I was working in a 1065 when my scheduled client arrived. This was a W2 with EIC, 8812. For the first time, I left the 1065 open and opened the second return to process the client. Everything worked fine but when I went to print the client's return, there was an approximate 4 to 5 minute delay in printing the return. This is the first time I had a delay in printing this year. I have seen where others have had problems with that. I don't really have a question on it. Just an FYI. Until things get better I probably won't work in ATX with two returns open at the same time. Any other preparers experiencing similar issues?
  16. I just noticed that the little refund amount window in the top right corner changes color. It is green when there is a refund and red when there's a balance. That is just the handiest little thing. I am so happy that the programmers had time to figure that one out. Making life so much easier. Good Job ATX!!
  17. Yesterday afternoon I had similar issues. I shut down all workstations. Rebooted the server. Then reinstalled the 12.5 update that I had downloaded from the website. I just ran it again without uninstalling anything on the server. Then I uninstalled the net setup on all the workstations, restarted all the workstations, then reinstalled net setup. Still having a problem entering a file on one workstation but the others are performing much better. Any ideas on the workstation where the program will not open a file after it is rolled over? If I go to a different workstation I am able to open that file, save it, and close out of it. Then if I got back to the original workstation where it was rolled over on, I can get into it then. What's up with that?
  18. Maybe my post would have been better suited to start as a new thread. I did not mean to sound like you were implying that questions should not be posted. It could sound as if that was my intention and for that I apologize. I just want to say that with some of the replies in the forum, I was really hesitant about posting any questions etc unless I have fully researched the User Manual. Again, I totally agree that reading the user manual is valuable and a everyone should do it. However, posting a question on this forum, hoping someone might have an answer for me, without feeling like I am taking a risk of being retorted by an answer of "read the user manual" should still be allowed. The point of my post was to let others know that from the way I look at this forum, ....... It is still ok to ask simple or complex questions here and maybe someone has an answer. (maybe others don't look at it that way, and that's ok with me).
  19. From the ATX 2012 program, go to "Support" then "User Guide". After I opened it the first time, I saved it to my desk top so it is readily available.
  20. You have a very valid point. And I admit as well that I had not read the User Manual before last evening and I was able to find my answer just as Jack advised me to. So it is not bad advice from Jack or anybody else to read the User Manual. However, for me, this forum is also a resource for possibly quick answers/solutions to problems or situations that arise. The answer might or might not be in the User Manual, and if a fellow ATX-er had the same issue and was able to resolve it, is it no longer proper to pose a question here hoping for a quick simple answer? On my part, if I see a question from someone that is experiencing a similar problem that I have dealt with, I want to help that person with his/her issue if I can. If I can do that by explaining what I did to resolve my problem then it's a win/win for everyone. If it is easier to tell them where it is found in the User Manual than that would be acceptable to me as well. At least I have saved them the time of searching through the Manual trying to find it. Or, if I know the answer is in the User Manual, I could just respond with "read the User Manual". My point is, let us not get into a groove here, where no one is allowed to ask questions without first reading through the 470 page User Manual, for fear of being retorted with an answer of "read the user manual". Again, I am not defending or criticizing anyone, and reading the User Manual is important. But I think we are all stressed out a little bit (or a lot) so far this season so I welcome questions/vents on this forum. By working together and trying to help each other out, we will get though this. In fact, I know we will get through it. Maybe with a few more gray hairs, but a few more gray hair never killed anyone. (as far as I know). That's my 5 cents worth for this morning!
  21. Was it a window 8 or XP? ATX has issues certain windows.
  22. I will look in the owner's manual. No sense in posting a question here hoping someone has a quick solution. Thanks for your quick answer Jack. At least now I know where to look it up at.
  23. Well we don't have that problem at all. New for 2012 it does not ask the users to log in at all. We have 6 users but none of the workstations asks for a login when it starts. Anybody have any idea why not?
  24. Yes, we are using ATX 2012 and are rolling over and preparing tax returns. To date we have processed 52 returns. We have had the issues of not being able to get into the return initially most of the time. I found out that if I roll it over on one wokstation and then go to a different workstation to open it initially, it will open 75% of the time on the first try. Then I can go back to the first workstation and it'll open their too. Don't ask me why. I have ATX installed on 5 workstations plus the server and not all workstations seem to function alike. One of them seems to have a lot less issues than the others and that is the workstation we are opening all returns on initially. The program is still way to slow to satisfy me, but we are actually able to process. Still hoping for some major improvements ASAP.
