  1. More than half of my clients are ministers or churches. For a small church, Aplos is the the best... Not even close. http://www.aplossoftware.com/
  2. Jack, I thought I remember before you saying adding more memory will not help this. Am I correct in that recollection? My computer has 8GB memory and would gladly upgrade if it helped.
  3. I would have charged $335 for 1040 and $800 for 1065.
  4. The "can take up to 6 months" has been at least 6 months the last year in the Fresno, CA office. Other processing centers haven't been quite as slow...
  5. 70% of my business is ministers. This is very common in certain denominations. I have been through dozens of audits where this issue came up. While many call them tithes, they are essentially district dues or credential fees (depending on the organization and where they are paid). If you have the district or general bylaws of the organization that states it is required, you will not lose an audit by claiming this as SCH C expense. Be careful of Clergy tax guides. There are so many different denominations and structures, it can be as different as preparing a return for a farmer and a pastor when you are looking at two ministers from radically different denomination structures. Many of the guides are written as a "catch all" that generalizes structures like Methodist, Southern Baptist, Lutheran. Some structures are radically different and need to be examined.
  6. It sounds like your shortcut link (what you double click) has lost the target. If you go into where your ATX program is installed (the folder) and click on it there does it open?
  7. I ran netsetup as I do every year (made sure the process was same with the new 2012 version). However, the program on the workstation doesn't have any of the return data. It is almost as if it is a stand alone version (doesn't ask for log in when opening). Anyone else have this problem?
  8. I had this problem. I unselected all of the forms to print, then manually selected them again and it printed. It was a workaround that worked for me. Too many workarounds necessary this year, but at least I got the results...
  9. It's always funny. It is way easier to steal postal mail than email... That being said, I have clients use PDF suite or Adobe to encrypt with a password and then call me with it.
  10. Anyone have any advice? Can't print anything with 10.8. All that it says is that there is an error. Not with 3 printers or the PDF. Updated to 10.9. Still can't print. Try and print to PDF and program crashed every time...???
  11. Forgot to mention that It is probably better for me. I serve the same 300 clients every year with almost no turnover and know them all well.
  12. This is my 5th year using it. Getting more popular every year. I require all my clients to pay in advance, or use fee collect (also accept credit cards). I charge $25 if they want to use fee collect. This covers the $15 and additional for the time it takes to process the fee collect paperwork. Most clients wouldn't care if I charged $50. It is almost as if they think my fees are coming out of their refund, it is like getting their taxes done for free. Silly, but that is kind of how it is.
  13. Was excited I transmitted a 4562 return (majority of returns I do have them, so you can imagine the stack...). But now nothing will print!!! Not to PDF, printer, anyting...???
  14. I filed 8 yesterday, all accepted. Next up... 4562...8582....
  15. In the Transmission Pop Up box during efiling or receiving Acks. It only does it once for each return. It won't show up in an ACK history report.
  16. It does not save it in the program anywhere that I can find. But when I get acknowledgments it has been telling me the Socials of the returns whose refunds have been deposited (not just the fee collect ones, all of them). I just jot down the last 4 of the socials and use the info if I need to (a pesky or anxious client). I have been having my assistant sending emails "your refund may be deposited tomorrow according to the IRS." Clients have been loving it.
  17. I've got a stack of returns waiting to be filed with 8863's. Anyone file yet? ATX said we could start this morning. Before I start on that stack I wanted to see if anyone has been successful yet?
  18. I have seen refunds coming in at 6-7 days that are direct deposit. However, I have yet to have one EIC refund come through (even those from Jan 30). Obviously there is extra processing going on. I am telling all EIC people probably 3 weeks unless there are more delays due to IRS processing changes of returns that claim EIC. I don't know what these processing changes are, but with the addition of pg 4 I can know that I am telling them truth. I do like that in the acknowledgements this year now tell you when every refund has been issued. So far the one thing I like of ATX 2012.
  19. Here was an ATX Email from Sunday. Updated 2-10-10 The IRS announced they will begin accepting returns with Form 4562 today, Sunday, February 10th. We cannot turn on the ability to e-file returns with Form 4562 until we deliver the 12.8 update. This is currently scheduled to be released on Friday, February 15th. Current delivery schedule: Release 12.8 early Friday Release Form updates to the 4562 in the late afternoon in order to make sure you have time to get the 12.8 update to prevent conflicts with returns with Form 4562 and 12.7
  20. I had that same message last year. It took nearly two weeks to figure out what it was (I didn't lose two weeks because I had another computer on the network that was running it fine). I even sent my computer in to HP and all kinds of things. It turned out, the Teamviewer Application doesn't play nice with ATX. Whenever Teamviewer was running ATX would crash and I would get the "CCHSFS Tax Prep has stopped working." Ironically the ATX Tech Support guy was using team viewer to access my machine so we could never figure it out. I figured it out on my own after a bunch of trial and error. I would guess you have a program running that doesn't play nice with ATX.
  21. Anyone heard back from clients about refunds? I know many of us suspected that with the refund cycle being a day earlier for Deposits being sent, that they may be showing up on Thursdays instead of Fridays. Anyone heard if this is true? I have been used to saying the past several years "IRS refunds you will receive on Fridays" which was the case with almost every bank.
  22. I did not discard any Sch C's. I simply rolled over a return with 2 Sch C's from last year. I am getting the same ATX Error: Only 1 copy of Sch C:02 is supported by the program. ????
  23. Anyone had any luck with reinstating a revoked exemption for not filing for three years? I have heard some rumors that some have been reinstated without having to file a 1023 and "start over."
  24. The instructions for 8839 say you must have a 8839 on file for previous years and you MUST amend all prior years that did not include 8839. My question is, this goes back to 05-09 returns. They won't process 05-07 amends now will they? Are they making a special exception to the statute?
  25. I got a new computer at the beginning of the season. Left ATX 2001 through 2006 on the old one (backed up of course). I only installed 07-10 on the new one. I imported all of the backup files. Everything is great. However, all of my previous year's efile statuses are from when they were originally transmitted. I know I used to solve this by running the Synchronize efile with EFC sync, but that doesn't seem to be doing anything. Anyone else know how to get the efiles to proper status (mostly do I have date of acceptance records). If not I will try tech support next week.
