  1. I'm a CPA and didn't take offense to BD Tom's remarks. Seems like some of you need to buy one size larger underwear. Easy-Going Booger
  2. Betcha that's ATX's deadline, not IRS.
  3. Hey everybody....I'm back. Just finished my last extended return.
  4. kc, understand FMV of equipment. How does one come up with the BASIS of the customer list? He started this business from scratch. Does the basis of the customer list equal annual sales, for example? Booger
  5. Client has an auto detailing business. Plans on selling it. No business assets, except for cleaning supplies and some pressure washers. Has a clientele of auto dealerships. He plans on setting the price at x times annual revenue. Anybody know how to establish and quantify basis of "customer list" ? Thanks in advance. Booger
  6. I'm still here, zeke. Just trying to re-establish my relationship with my wife. Only have 25 individual extensions to complete....my motivation level is EXTREMELY LOW in May. Apathetic (and Tired) Booger
  7. JohnH, what changed your mind about using ATX for your 2008 prep? Just seems to me that a lot of energy was wasted by certain people crying and complaining about CCH all during busy season. The way I look at it, the software did what it was supposed to do, at a fair price. It was the customer support that sucked. Just curious.
  8. Gee, joelgilb.........did you forget (along with some others on this board) that Mel in Hawaii was supposed to come through with a tax prep program? Alot of people were willing to throw their money at him to produce one.
  9. Gee, seems that alot of people are "re-upping" with ATX.
  10. NO, you'll fail miserably. (JUST JOKING) Booger
  11. MaMalody, you are correct. I have to have the client pay BOTH the $300 additional tax due AND the overpayment claimed on the original Form 1040. I forgot that, once the overpayment was applied to the subsequent year, that CANNOT be changed. Booger
  12. I am preparing a 1040X for 2007. Client did not receive a brokerage statement until AFTER the original 1040 was filed. On the original 1040, an overpayment of tax of $1,000 was reported, and I applied it ALL to the taxpayer's 2008 liability (NO REFUND WAS REQUESTED). When I prepare the 1040X, the client now owes $300. Does the $1,000 need to be reported on line 19 (overpayment line) of the 1040X? Seems to me that if I report it there, the client will be paying MORE than what is owed on the amended return. I apologize if this is a STUPID question. Booger
  13. Tom, you have a way of summing things up alot better than I could. Just seems ILLOGICAL to me that a company like CCH would "pull the rug out" from under its ATX client base. But, if the "bean counters" at CCH determine that the Company can save $$$ by making the ATX customers use Taxwise, then bye-bye ATX. Bean Counter CPA Booger
  14. I certainly don't have any inside information, but I believe that ATX will be around for 2008....beyond that, it's probably a crap-shoot. Whatever beefs people have on this board with CCH, ATX is a great tax prep program for the money. TRX SOUNDS good, but I can't get past my skepticism about a program that only costs a few hundred dollars being any good for more than the simplist returns. Booger
  15. I guess that's the chance I'm willing to take. Booger

I find it interesting that as users of this site evaluate different software packages, it appears that there will be alot of users sticking with ATX (I already ordered the 2008 version). Booger

    Drake Evaluation

I find it interesting that the more people are evaluating different software packages, more people are leaning toward ATX (which I have already purchased for 2008). Booger
  18. Bucking the trend (AS USUAL), I already re-upped for 2008 and took the discount. (Satisfied With Software) Booger PS Also worked with Drake for 2007................PREFERRED ATX.
  19. indyscott, if the son did that, do you think the parents will press charges? "Tough-Love" Booger
  20. Called ODOT and talked to "Tara". Explained the situation to her re e-filing the 4868 to IRS and whether Ohio gets a confirm or copy of the extension. She said NO....but go ahead and do what I was planning on doing-- send a letter with the clients names and SS #'s who I have extended on-line and include a copy of the paper 4868 for each of the taxpayer's in my cover letter. Funny, she said she has been with the department for years, and no one has ever asked (axed) this question. First-Time Booger
  21. It was either post the picture (and make a joke out of myself) or throw myself under a bus. I felt the posting the picture was LESS painful. Booger
  22. Yea, I'm wearing my hair in a mullet now. GQ Booger
  23. Started cleaning the attic yesterday. Found my High School Senior Picture. Decided to use it as my avatar on this board. What do you think? Booger
  24. Was on my way out the door to the same seminar, but forgot where it was. Booger
