In math negative numbers do count but in real life they don't, so that would put me at -12 years.

I guess it's shocking for both the client and myself that they just received the notice yesterday after all these years. I did not prepare 2004 and 2007, I did prepare 2008 and after looking at my notes, the prior preparer provided me with 2008 information after 10/01/09 so I know it was late. I am going to take a wild guess and say the 2004 and 2007 were also filed late. I had called the IRS before on behalf of this tax payer and they had said no penalty abatement because he is always late (IRS records) for another partnership before. According to the client they never received a notice before, anyway I am going to call the IRS on their behalf and see what happens.

Maybe you might know someone that found out they are the father a couple of years later, well if you compare it to my clients situation it's almost the same thing. Well today my client received an IRS notice for tax year 2004, 2007 & 2008 for late filing a 1065, that's 8, 5 and 4 years later, I am so surprised that I don't know if I should call the IRS or write a letter.

When I was a young whipper snapper I used to work for a department store called Goldblatts, which merge with a store name Ames and Zayres and I always enjoyed watching people spend their money or putting stuff on layaway, I might of not been a productive person but I was always there to pick up my paycheck.

This question is for those that have experience with foreign income and deal with returns like this every year. Here is a scenario I would like to get help with, I am trying to find out if the return was filled out correctly. TP is U.S resident/citizen TP earns wages from his company that is located outside of the US (correction, his foreign wages was reported on line 7 combined with his US wages) TP has a rental property in the foreign country TP sold a business one of his business in the foreign country From reviewing the tax return, I don't see the foreign earned income on Form 2555, assuming he filed a tax return, the rental property was reported on Sch E, what appears to be his wages appear on Sch C and the sale of the business on Sch D, any tax he paid is reported on form 1116. Is this the proper way of reporting foreign income? I don't deal with situations like this very often so I thought I would ask for help. Thanks MAS

Everybody hates bad news, but the only bad news here is that the old server no longer hosts the ATX forum, and if you feel Eric is doing a good job with the site don't forget to click on the "Donations" link, lets show our appreciation to him. MAS This is a non-lawyer spokesperson or paid actor

Is the problem (file name) with converter into ATX or out of ATX? If you are converting let say from ATX to Proseries, then you should phone Proseries for help.

Can someone do me a favor and check their 2012 ATX program and see if you can print out the W-2 data entry sheet. In prior years I would just go to the form an click "Page" which is print current page and it would print.

For the last couple of years now, I only transfer clients that I am going to work with, about two years ago I received a call from a former client that he needed a copy of his extension because of a notice he received, the last time we had prepared a return was 2-3 years before that.

Why would you transfer/convert all your clients at once?

Can't the small business owner simply pass the health care burden on the employees, he/she washes their hands and let them deal with it? I have a suspicion many small business are going to take that route especially if they fall under ACA requirement, I already heard someone thanking Pres. Obama in a colorful language after their employer dropped their health care plan. It's not illegal but morally wrong yes?

Does anyone know the definition of what IRS considers a small business in terms of revenue?
