  1. I finally reset my password, and everything is working again.
  2. Not sure if you're asking me or Lynn (and I hope I didn't hijack this topic - not sure if she has the same problem I do). Anyway, I also use FF, though I also tried with Edge and got the same result. One of the ATX employees on the official community suggested clearing my page cache and cookies, which I did, and now I cannot even get back into the communities. I can still log in fine, but trying to do anything takes me back to the login screen. Guess I'll have to see how the telephone support is working these days,
  3. I just updated through the software with no problem. However, the support site is not working for me. I can log in, but everything I try to do after that sends me back to the login screen. E.g., I get to the Download Center, and try to download either the ATX program or the Payroll program, and it sends me back to login. Same if I try to check my billing report. It's happened about 10 times now.

    Form 8615

I don't think so, but I would love to learn that I'm wrong.
  5. Thanks. That's a handy site to get me to the right page to research the answer. I was hoping for a lazier alternative that doesn't require any reading. Even a list of states where none of the registration fees are deductible would save time reading through those state web sites. Some states make it difficult to tell if any of their fees is based on the value of the car. But this is much better than what I have been using (a google search which sometimes takes several attempts to get me to the right state site).
  6. Does anyone know of a good source for states in which at least a portion of vehicle registration fees are deductible on Schedule A? Or is this a good candidate for a pinned post?
  7. I don't think there is a way to cancel it, but once it has been accepted, you can efile the corrections in ATX. The program help is pretty straightforward. You have to correct the amount in the same return that you originally submitted, then when you click efile, select the corrected 1099. The additional 1099 will require a separate return.
  8. I've installed ATX 2003-2016 on a new W10 computer with no problems.

    ATX 2013

You probably checked this already, but do you have any filters selected in the return manager, such as "incomplete"?
  10. Don't forget to check out your library. I can borrow most any ebook I want for 3 weeks. I don't own it, but that does give me the incentive to read what I borrow, rather then buy a ton of books that I never get around to reading. And I can always buy it later if I decide I want to own it.
  11. Thank you both. In the future I will certainly take Jack's advice and let it be. The W-2 instructions say the paper filed W-2 will also be rejected and generate a letter to the employer telling him to file a correction, but I guess we will just have to deal with that when it comes.
  12. I do the payroll for an employer client with SS & Medicare withholding for an employee who told the employer after 2 months and the quarterly 941 was already filed that she was exempt (student on J-1 visa), and now cannot be contacted. We filed a 941-X and got the employer amount credited, but the IRS still has the employee withholding amount, because the employer was unable to contact the employee to return it. A W-2 with $0 in Boxes 3 & 5, positive withholding in Boxes 4 & 6 will be rejected by the SSA (ATX Payroll won’t even create the efile). Do I just file the W-2 with $0 in Boxes 3, 4, 5, and 6, even though there really was withholding for Boxes 4 & 6? If so, the total W-3 SS & Medicare will not match the corrected 941, and how would the employee prove she paid the SS & Medicare if she ever wanted to get it back?
  13. I'm curious what they tell you tomorrow, but I don't think you HAVE to buy the city package. It looks to me like they have added the ability to efile the RITA 37 form at least, but only if you buy a MUCH more expensive package than MAX. You can just tell MAX to remove the EFile forms and paper file like last year. I am still annoyed that the new EFiling capability is not included in my "unlimited" MAX package, and more than annoyed that they've made the form less capable than last year for those of us who continue to paper file. For example, RITA 37 no longer pulls the address from the 1040, but now forces you to retype it.
  14. Bump. Just wondering if you found a way to make ATX bend to your will? I am having the same problem.
  15. To restore the backup, you have to close ATX and open the Backup-Restore program that should have been installed at the same time you installed ATX. It's been a while since I've done it, but I believe you just need to click the restore tab, navigate to the database, and pick the return you want to restore. Then when you close Backup-Restore and open ATX, the return should be there.
  16. Thanks. Not the answer I wanted, but it is the one I expected. And thanks for the warning about the uninstall. I probably would have messed that up.
  17. I have Max 2013 and 2014 installed on my laptop as workstations, but will need to work on some extensions while away from the office. Is there any way to install both years as standalone on the same laptop, or am I going to have to uninstall the workstation versions first?
  18. I'm one of those who see it but don't complain. I just click one or twice and it goes away. I do notice that it appears to follow Murphy's Law. If I'm in a hurry, it's much more likely to occur, and I'm much more likely to need to click multiple times. And if there's a client on the phone waiting for his return to open, the error message is more likely to pop up behind another open window, so I don't even realize it's waiting for a response from me. :)
  19. 8615 is added to the child's return. 8614 is added to the parent's return if they elect to include the child's income. I just made the same mistake.
  20. If you click on the refund/payment in the upper right of the screen, ATX will add a summary sheet with a bunch of useful stuff. Not really a cover sheet, but sometimes I include it too.
  21. The mystery is solved, and it's pretty embarrassing. Let's call it stupid operator error (you can decide whether "stupid" modifies "operator" or "error"). The exemption for spouse somehow got checked on her return. I don't know how--been doing lots of joint vs separate analysis for OH clients for years, starting with the joint return, duplicating it twice, and deleting the other spouse's information, and it's never happened before. Stared at this for a long time, and didn't see it until I recreated her return from scratch, thinking there must be a corrupted form somewhere. While there is no excuse, I find it very annoying that ATX will warn me that the spouse's occupation shouldn't be listed on a MFS, the spouse's birthdate shouldn't be listed on a MFS, but it doesn't warn me that the exemption for a spouse can't be taken on a MFS. And I sure wish ATX would produce a useful MFS vs MFJ comparison so I wouldn't have go through this process in the first place. I know there is a comparison tool, but it is worthless. Finally, the efile error message was not at all helpful here, though I do understand why it needed to match the efile database, since the exemption does matter. OK, rant (and excuses) over. Now I have to explain to the client why her refund is $1,000 less than I initially told her. Thanks for all your suggestions.
  22. That is my question. I guess I will ask to see the social security card, or tell her to paper file hers. I just don't understand why his name and SSN works for his return, but not as the spouse on hers.
  23. Thanks, but if it didn't match, shouldn't the husband's return also have been rejected? (I edited my original post to make it a little clearer who was accepted and who was rejected.)
  24. I filed husband and wife MFS returns. The husband was accepted. The wife was rejected (error R0000-503-01 - SpouseSSN or Spouse NameControlTxt must match e-file database), even though the spouse's name and SSN on her return match what was on the husband's accepted return. I've restored all 9 fields that are typically associated with this error and re-entered the husband's information, but it still gets rejected. Any ideas out there? Thanks

    Thanks. Good to know.
