  1. Thank you everyone. And, a special shout out to Catherine who's preparing one of my returns! Just returned and not quite unpacked and need to go to a client site (S-corp) all day and evening Thursday for a bookkeeping gig. Then back to about four more extended returns! All I can say is that when your son walks up to you at his wedding reception, takes your hand, and dances with you -- well, looking up into his eyes, all grown up and married and handsome in his tux -- it's right up there with the first time I held him when he was born! We had a week of rain, but the sun shone on their wedding day. The bride and groom were happy and loving. My sister who's been ill for a very long time met her goal of eating Mexican food and looking fabulous at her nephew's wedding. When I catch my breath, I'll post pictures.

    PTIN

Mine is P00005702. Hope I get to keep it. But, I'm waiting until they get the bugs out. For instance, it's been wanting the wrong number of digits for your CAF, so you have to leave it blank to get the application through and update it some other time. I'll wait until December, at least, or maybe November. My clients don't come in early, so I could wait until January or February, but probably won't.

  4. You have to register before you file any tax returns after 31 December 2010. My clients don't come in all that early, so I'm going to wait until they get the bugs out of their new system.

  8. From a colleague who tried this morning: The PTIN registration system seems to be partially functional this morning: https://rpr.irs.gov You can sign up for a userid on the system, but the ability to actually obtain or refresh a PTIN isn't available. For those that prefer to register on paper, the W-12 (replaces the W-7) is available as well: http://www.irs.gov/p...rs-pdf/fw12.pdf
  9. Each Sunday in church during our prayers of the people we pray for those who have died the last week in Iraq/Afghanistan. We read their names aloud. I'm the lay reader once per month, so have that duty. We also pray for all our military, at home and abroad. (We don't read all those name aloud.)
  10. If you're going to purchasing it every year or so (clients use it and update on their own schedules, so you have to have their year), then it's probably cheaper. You get every year as it comes out. You get discounts which you can pass along to your clients, or not. You get discounts on Payroll and Merchant Services and.... With the Accountants' version, you can toggle to the version your client has so you see what they see on their screen. You get dedicated support out of Austin, TX, during business hours. You have access to their training, much of it entirely free. If you don't have to buy every year (clients don't update often or you keep them on the same schedule) then you can certainly save by buying only when a major upgrade and waiting for sales.

  12. I look at it as being 21..........X3. Or, the 24th anniversary of my 39th birthday. Or, only 61% of my grandmother's age. Or, the fact that old is a whole lot better than the only other alternative at my age! :P

  20. Oh, but do come back and tell us what you learned. You're probably not the only one with that exact same question/problem/issue, so others can learn from you.

  25. Per TTB 12-9: "If a loan is in the name of a student who is claimed as a dependent, neither the parents nor the student can deduct interest."
