  1. Sounds like she gave info to the scammers! File on paper with the covering rejection notice and Form 14039 and requested attachments. Police report. Consumer Protection in her state. FTC.gov/IDtheft has some good information on all the things to do. Apply for an IP PIN. Place fraud alerts with all credit agencies. Order credit reports to report errors. Freeze all credit. SSA. www.irs.gov/identitytheft.
  2. Did she by any chance go on the Nonfilers app and file a 2019 EIP return without telling you?
  3. The short answer is you can't use the same wages or expenses for two different loan/credits/grants. As long as you have enough employees or you use 8 weeks' worth of payroll for forgiveness of one type but prior to that/after that (?) you deferred employer taxes or roll your EIDL grant into your PPP forgiveness or.... The shorter answer is that your bank will determine forgiveness based on its interpretation of the SBA regulations, so ask your bank. And, the long answer is expected in regulations due out in May.
  4. The hotel (if it were a sole proprietor, so I'm stretching) would not file a Schedule E. It would file a Schedule C because it's providing services. The hotel would not be reporting rent; it would be reporting income from services. But, I don't have any hotel clients, so I could be wrong about that.
  5. The IRS said they are getting information from the SSA for people with no filing requirement who did not file in either 2018 or 2019 but DO receive SS benefits via DD. It sounds like your mother had a filing requirement and actually filed tax returns, so the IRS is doing what they said by mailing her a check IF her 2019 return did not have a DD. The last IRS message I read, not today so it may be old news, said they were still working with the SSA to get information to upload to their app.
  6. If he filed 2019 and IF it has been processed and IF his information has been uploaded to the app and IF his EIP has not been sent yet, then the Get My Payment might work for him IF he gets in when it's not overwhelmed and IF he inputs everything the way the app is looking for it and IF.... If he didn't get a direct deposit for 2019, he can try the part of the app that lets him add his banking information, using all the preceding IFs. Or, wait for his check to arrive.
  7. If they had no tax liability and did not file 2018 or 2019 returns, they need to use the Nonfilers part of that app to file an EIP return to get in the system to be able to get an EIP. Once their EIP return is processed, then they can use the Get My Payment part of the app. Unless, they are a SS or RR or VA recipient, then they do NOT have to file an EIP return.
  8. Plus, non-qualified use will impact their 121 exclusion when they sell.
  9. You're not to use two different programs for the same expenses or for the same employees. We don't have much guidance on forgiveness yet. And, your bank might not interpret the guidance the same as my bank. Ask your bank. Tell your clients to ask their banks. I've heard it suggested to put loan proceeds into a separate account and use that account for appropriate expenses to make it easier to document come forgiveness time. So, we do have to listen to our banks now to prepare.
  10. If qualified to be claimed as a dependent, the dependent does NOT qualify. The parent would qualify for the extra $500 for their dependent under 17. That said, I've heard of dependents receiving $1,200, but don't know any personally. They could've used the non-filers portal to file an EIP return claiming themselves.
  11. Looks like your software updated after the first change but not yet after the second. Make sure you have the latest update. Then, either wait (can always make changes by hand before giving your client the 2Q voucher) or follow your software's directions to make a global change or a return by return change.
  12. And, each bank probably will determine forgiveness for its own loans, no matter how the law reads, just like they did with application approvals!
  13. Yes. Current and two prior years.
  14. We don't know the results of forgiveness yet. We know the COD will not be taxable income, so not a). But, we don't know the theory or the forms/schedules/lines.
  15. Liquor stores and pot dispensaries are essential businesses and can stay open.
  16. Christian. We can't do much with information we gather with the purpose of preparing a tax return. So do vent here. We understand. But, then take a deep breath and move on to a better client. And, a Friday night cocktail.
  17. Confidentiality. Circular 230. Your license.
  18. I thought the IRS said to NOT mail any more returns.
  19. You can't e-file a superseding return, and the IRS is NOT processing paper returns.
  20. It won't be "new" refund on 1040X. It's already applied based on original 1040.
  21. Grandmabee, I always find your answers informative. And, Judy's. This board is a great tool.
  22. Wait a minute, I know about 2020. But, for a deceased, when executor/preparer discovers 2019 and prior year RMDs were never taken, doesn't the estate have to take them immediately, or the beneficiaries? Can they really spread them over several years?!
  23. I don't think they've uploaded all the 2018 information yet from what I've been seeing from professional organizations today. And, certainly not 2018 just filed in 2020. They sent out 50 million DDs only a week after the law was signed. Give them some time. And, stop overwhelming the system with sample requests.
