  1. I have a client who is a partner in a partnership. The partners use their autos extensively in the business. The partnership pays for all their gas. I prepare the partnership return and this indiviuals return. He takes a mileage deduction on his personal return. I tell him I must decrease the mileage deduction by the amount of the gas paid for by the partnership. He now informs me that I will still prepare the partnership return but he will have someone else prepare his personal return. Is there anything I can or should do in this situation?
  2. And if the chips are returnd to the casino by a sailor they are chips ahoy.
  3. The credit is still available in 2010. For 2010: Notice 1036 contains the 2010 withholding tables, which reflect reduced withholding resulting from the Making Work Pay credit.
  4. How can wife qualify for HH if she is married?
  5. Did they live together all year? I agree that you are right in not wanting to claim HH filing status, child tax credit, dependent exemption. However, I think it may be possible for the boyfriend to claim the children as dependents eventhough he cannot claim the girlfriend.
  6. I have an Adobe PDF converter listed with my printers. I am not sure where I got it but it may be the PDF factory that ATX used to supply. When I create a PDF with the converter the file is drastically smaller than when I create the PDF with the PDF option in ATX.

    Gambling

Just because you gamble every day does not mean you are a professional gambler.
  8. I know that if you turn 65 on Januay 1, you can take the additional standard deduction for being over 65 the year before you actually turn 65.
  9. The update required a restart because there was a program update as well as the regular forms update. I would think that if the next program update(s) change the preference like this one did, the restart will give you a warning about the preference change just as this one did.
  10. If member A has a loan to the LLC then the re-payments are repaying the loan and are not guaranteed payments. The interest portion of the re-payments would be taxable. You have not said how the LLC is taxed but if it is taxed as a partnership, guatanteed payments to partners whould be income taxable and subject to self employment tax.

  13. When I was young I watched a neighbor take out his upper teeth and put them in a glass. Then he took out his lower teeth and put them in a seperate glass. I waited a few seconds and then asked him if he could take out his tongue also.

Is there a way to put something on the opening page (ATX Community Forum) to let me know which forums have new postings?

  19. I have a client with tax bills from 2005 and 2006. We just filed his 2007 1040 showing a loss. I amended 2005 and 2006 to caryback the loss and offset the taxable income from those two previous years. In 2006, the taxpayer was subject to alternative minimum tax. The IRS returned the 1040X's saying they needed additional information. They want us to provide a copy of our 2007 6251, a computation of the Alternative Minimum Tax Net Operating Loss Deduction for the loss year, and copies of the 2005 and 2006 forms 6251 both before and after the carryback. I do not think I know how to do these computations and forms. I hope this is appropriate, but I would like to hire one of you experts to show me how to do this or do it for me. If this is inappropriate, just let me know and accept my appologies.

  23. If you put your curser over the "x" by the locked topic it says "closed". Maybe locked and closed are the same thing.
  24. As I read that, it says that the insurance company can deny you coverage but if they do accept you they might cover pre-existing conditions. I think you need to ask.
