Driver License on Input Sheet

On the 2015 input for both ProSeries and Lacerte there is a place to put the Drivers License for both the taxpayer and spouse. The IRS is urging us to put this on the form for efiling.  I was wondering if ATX has the same on there new program.

Yes, there is that in ATX along with a description as to why they are suggesting we ask for that information.  When the 1040 is open, click on the tab at the bottom of the page for 'filers information'.  There is a section, now above the telephone numbers input, to add the ID info for taxpayer and spouse - either drivers license or state issued ID.

Interestingly enough --- some US agencies (unlike IRS) do not apparently believe that the state drivers license is enough proof:  http://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/news/tsa-moves-closer-to-rejecting-some-state-driver%e2%80%99s-licenses-for-travel/ar-BBnYMIr?ocid=U147DHP   as it does not ask some important questions to be obtained for ID.

Drake has its input screen for this data in the banking section. It has a section for DL or state-issued ID to be entered, and a section below that to input some other sort of ID if applying for bank products, otherwise, it appears that this information is not needed to e-file.

I suspect one reason states would like this info is to help them when dealing with residency issues.  For example, work in TN, which has no state tax, but live in AR or MS, which do, you might be tempted to use a PO Box or a TN friends address on your W2.  But the drivers's lic would show you up fast.

Per the ATX support people:  This is for the ATX program entry

QA was;     will these fields need to be filled out in order to efile??

AN was;      It will depend on the state return that is being filed.  Error messages will display if the information is required for the return to be filed.
