Patrick Michael Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 I have a nonprofit return all ready to go, except I don't have the treasurer's SSN. The treasurer for 2024 was removed from the office in January of 2025, and it was not a pleasant separation. He is not responding to my requests for the information, and he is not returning calls from the organization either. Is the only option to paper file, or is there some other way to e-file without this information? Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 It is my understanding that paper filing is not allowed. I spoke with the Pres of a non-profit yesterday who tried to paper file and the 990 was returned to him to be e-filed. I have not done a 990 this year; I thought the only social security number required was for whoever was signing the return? Can't you change to some other officer signing and use their SSN? 5 Quote
Abby Normal Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 If the treasurer is gone, why would you want them to sign the return, anyway? 3 Quote
Lion EA Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 Definitely use a current officer. (Just like if they moved, you'd use their current address and not their old 2024 address that's no longer theirs.) 2 Quote
jklcpa Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 Agree with both above. SSNs don't even show up on the 990 because they are available to the public, so it is for only the e-filing signature. Just have either use the current treasurer or one of the other officers sign and use that SSN. 3 Quote
Patrick Michael Posted April 30 Author Report Posted April 30 My bad! User error. I was using the wrong screen to enter the current treasurer's SSN and thought it was looking for the past treasurer's SSN. My brain must not be fully recovered yet. 2 1 Quote
