When you post a reply, there is a button below the editor labeled "More Reply Options" You'll be taken to a new page with more options. One of those options is under the editor, called "Attach Files" But as far as including things like YouTube videos, Rita is right, you just paste the URL for the YouTube video, and usually the forum handles the rest automagically. For example, pasting this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oHWvFrpocY Results in this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oHWvFrpocY2 points

I got in! It's 'Admin' as Frannie said. I'd been typing 'admin', which is the default MyATX username. And 'Admin' is the only user for administrator. And no hours with Tex Upport. Nice. Thank you all!!!!2 points

Sch A, Line 5, Income Tax or Sales Tax remains an issue. This error is a show stopper if it remains. Doug said recently prior to this release that is was their highest priority.1 point

Downloaded the file from the site in 65 seconds. Ran the file on the server. All seems well so far except the pesky "open the return in last year's program and save again" for about 40% of the files in my rollover manager. This year, anyone using a server and workstations should do the initial install ON THE SERVER. Prior years were not compatible with server operating systems hence the instruction to load from a workstation and save the files on the server. Do the updates on the server as well. Does everyone understand that any comments about "...the way it was last year..." are totally irrelevant? The former program was Excel spreadsheet based and used an Acess 97 (yes, 1997) database. It became incompatible with server software in 2008 due to netframework 4.0 being used in server operating systems. The 2012 program is NOT in ANY WAY like the previous years. I don't yet know the format or database configuration they are using, but before this season ends I will know. Another pet peeve of mine.... "All I want is software that will work,,,," This is 2013. Computers and software MUST adapt to the changing environment. Regular and frequent changes are part of life now. If you do not have the necessary tech skills to deal with the changes, and you intend to continue in this chosen career field, you must either learn it yourself, hire a tech skilled tax professional, or have a long term contract with an I.T. company that can do it for you. This is not 1990 anymore!! If we took the same attitude about tax law as seems to be the overiding attitude about tax software and providers, we would have all stopped doing taxes in 2002. Rant over.... (for now) BTW, I am 56 years old, have been a geek all my life, and I constantly update my computer I.T. skill just like my tax skills. I work for a firm and have my own practice. I said this to reinforce the idea that it is possible.1 point

Michael, my only complaint has been with the slowness of printing but I have resolved that by printing to pdf first (much quicker). January has never been a high volume prep time for me but I have successfully prepared seven returns without issue. Two were 1120S, one was an EIC 1040, one was a Schedule F and E 1040, 2 were multi-member LLC filing as partnerships, one was a schedule E 1040. I have not installed the new update yet, I will wait until I come in tomorrow morning and do it then. I usually get in the office sometime between when the west coast folks quit for the day and the east coast folks are still sleeping. That way I can download updates without all of the other noise. I DID get a real treat today, though. One of my delinquent 2011 corporate clients emailed me his info, so I get to work in the 2011 program. How cool is that?1 point

Here is the link to the ATX download page....once there, click on the icon next to "ATX 2012 12.5 UPDATE" https://support.atxinc.com/download/index.aspx1 point

Downloading directly from website has been slow but steady, no error messages or timeouts.1 point

I am waiting for update 12.5 so I can start the tax season. I'm a newbie rollover from Lacerate and to say it has not gone well is an understatement. In addition, I was forced into Windows 8 when my trusty laptop bit the dust right before I purchased ATX 2012. I only processed 15 returns last year but am planning to grow a little if I can every getting the #@#!@#@! program to work. Question: Should I stick around and be late to my other job in order to load the patch or just wait until this evening. Argo1 point

The update may or may not be released between 10 and 11. According to a post by CCH Rep Kim last night, the update is scheduled for between 10 and 11. This IS my day job and I do not plan on pulling down the update at least until tomorrow. Go to work.1 point

Check out the EIC thread. In it we discuss how to remove all forms including bad and missing forms and reinstall them using the program update.1 point

Tell me how you would change tax software with our office situation. I have posted this before.... 2,900+ tax returns. 8 preparers. Used ATX since 2002, Imagine the learning curve. Imagine the conversion issues. Imagine all the lost time in the process. Now, is it worth changing programs for a few hundred dollars, or a couple of weeks of learning and redoing a few things? At the firm, we will NOT be e-filing before Feb. 1. This relates to my prediction that the IRS e-file system will crash (overload) on Jan. 30 or 31. I watched it happen last year, and the year before. Notice the lack of commercials begging people to e-file now? IRS is not ready to have everyone e-file. Just like all their programs, their reach far exceeds their grasp.1 point

Once when ATX would not handle carried forward passive losses carried forward to a year with passive gains, I tried several programs. The lowest-cost program that I tried was Tax Act and it handled the passive losses correctly, as did several more expensive programs. If you are looking for a low-cost program, use Tax Act. If you can afford about $1350, Drake is a good choice. If preparing taxes is necessary for you to maintain your standard of living, you need the best software you can find for the price compatible with the revenue it provides you. In my case, I'm well past retirement age, but, as as the Retirement Millionaire Newsletter said in its Feb issue, "One of my keys to a successful retirement is "not to retire." So I prepare taxes, not only for the income, but for the psychological benefits of continuing to work at a slowed-down level.1 point

To transfer returns just export them from one program and import into a seceond program with a flash drive. I don't think you can batch returns as in previous years but you can mark them all and export them. Looks like it would be impossible to mirror the program on another computer by hand.1 point

I'm on the same level as Frannie & Ron. I'm not having extreme issues with the program, and didn't totally freak out even when I locked myself out. I posted here and on the other forum, got dressed and went to a party (while I still can). And voila, the answer was here in the morning. Printing is not nearly as slow as that year when the program treated every page as a new print job (remember that?). Data input is not as slow as when my computer wasn't running enough memory and I didnt know it; several seconds to move between every input box, which is why I think a lot of the slowness problems being reported are system issues and not program issues (1 GB minimum of RAM which means it'll run, but slow as dirt, with a 1GB processor- recommended is twice that much). Another issue is that we didn't have much time to play around with the program since it was sent out bare bones, and with a substanially revamped program, we needed time to get used to it. Last year we got a pretty much complete program by Thanksgiving- of course 2011 is the only year since I've been doing taxes on ATX that Congress didn't make last minute changes, and this year (2012) is the worst yet. So instead of ATX working to tweak the program from November until tax season opened with ample feedback from us, which would have been ok, they've been having to deal with the frikking forms and not having much feedback until we had a minimum of forms we could even try to work with. this can't be easy for them, and it's not easy for us. So I'm going to watch my training video, just so I don't do something stupid again. And the letter is customizable, it's just done as a template, and not by editing within the letter as we are used to.1 point

No. Not for the forseeable future. See my previous post.1 point

This program is NOT the same kind of program from 2011. It is TOTALLY new from the inside out. The thing you seek may not even exist in the manner you are used to seeing. Let the program do the second or third backup. In the backup window, choose a different place i.e. flash drive, external hard drive etc, and do the backup. Do it two or three different places if you choose. It is not yet clear yet where and how the program does these things. BRAND NEW PROGRAM, LEARNING CAPS & THINKING REQUIRED!!!1 point

The IRS does not care about custody battles. The ability to claim a child as dependent is based on the fact, circumstances and very clearly laid out rules. If the parent that is not allowed to claim the child by IRS regulations does so, the other parent paper files, and then sends documentation to the IRS when the letter arrives. I deal with at least 2 dozen of these each tax season. "...and must e-file ASAP to prevent boyfriend from claiming the child." is not reason to hurry the process. In my Not So Humble Opinion, when the amount of tax refund received by claiming the child is the most important thing in the parent's life, they truly have more serious issues that need addressed for the sake of the child.1 point

I am just hoping to e-file an original. That would be the cat's pajamas. At the rate we are going, I fear that I will walk out of my office on April 15th squinting and asking, "What year is this?"1 point

Frannie - "we wanted a low cost program" with any capabilities. I did not request any real changes except for in the client letter edit ability - and they solved that, now I can't edit even that. As rfassett says it seems that no one is having the exact same problem, from speed to opening to rollovers to shutdowns - we all want ATX to succeed and be there. But it seems pretty obvious to me that they were ill prepared to release this product when they did and they apparently did far too little beta testing and have no backup plan which could offer a solution for their many users. And doing this major shuffle and giving literally no advance notice to the user base is what causes many of us to "complain" about what is going on. For many this, as for you, is a vital part of their financial existence and therefore it is critical when we have spent money to expect that the product will perform at least in a limited fashion.1 point

I just went to this video, then copied and pasted. You won't know it worked til after you post. It's kind of terrifying, really... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbL_G-7TV4Y1 point

Maybe some of you have already seen the humor in this and I missed the post and apoligize if I am duplicating. The humor? We are suppose to be able to open a second return return while working on the first right? Like that is going to happen. Most of us would be happy to just get the first open. Great feature though!1 point

New to the community as a member but not new to viewing it or to Atx. User since 1997. In the old days we could delete a form and reload it but not now. It's all or nothing. This problem bothered me for 5 days and couldn't get through to tech support, only to customer support which is worthless. I saw Sch C and EIC in my forms list but when I would try to add them it said there were not installed. 5 days waiting for over an hour each day but this morning after an hour and a half wait along came Charlie at tech support. In 10 minutes time with him I had a solution. The solution was in changing an item in the program files. I'd be carefull doing this, but this is what I was instructed to do: Go to C:program dataCCHSmall Firm Services Atx2012Assets. You will see a file called 2012. I had to change the name to 2012.old. This keeps the file available in case of emergency. What this did was remove every form installed and require the software to reinstall every form. 150mb and 1060 forms later I had a software program that resembled what I ordered when I signed up for another year. It actually worked! Started running slow at first but I figured none of the forms had ever been opened before. Runs pretty good now. Updating or re-installing the program did not solve the problem. Good luck.1 point
