Eli, I was nervous about that too, and chose to download and save from the website rather than from inside the program. Went very quickly, and then clicked 'run' when prompted. All went smoothly, although opening the program was slow as it processed the update, and I was on pins & needles.
Good luck!
I know, and it's not us. I don't care how inexpensive a program is perceived to be (and it ain't cheap to this gal), boxes oughta stay checked. I would so like to smoke right now. And I don't smoke. While I eat my candy bar, I am going to watch Kid President's pep talk that I posted last night. Not cool, ATX.
Just have to say that my problem is still with me, unresolved. Lots of other people on the other forum having the issue as well. No solution yet. I can't work on any return at all. This network update box is popping up at random times and then shuts the program down. One user was in the middle of transmitting an efile when it happened. Now that's really comforting to hear!
Opened the program, still getting the block about being on a network, clicking ok shuts the program down. Restarted & all seemed ok. Tried opening one of the returns and when the box came up about some forms not yet being available, the same network box is again popping up. Clicking OK is the only option and it shuts the program down.
Unacceptable! I can't even get past the opening of the return to work on anything now.
ETA: I reinstalled update 12.5 again. Now everything seems to be working...for now...and the program no longer thinks I'm running on a network. The "About" menu selection does show that it's a standalone installation. I have no idea how this glitch happened. There weren't any choices to be made when running the update. Weird.
ETA again - still now working. This is maddening.
Just a quick tip in case you guys are not already doing it. Because the server is slow during high traffic time, download during the afternoon and SAVE the file in a folder (not run it and erase it). Then you can copy the update file to a thumb drive and update your secondary computers if you want. You will avoid download it. Also because this is early and the system has not stabilized yet, save the updates to a CD in case you need to go back a level to see what was it doing. This will save you hours of re-downloading and only cost you a DVD or CD. I use re-writable DVD for this stuff.
Took 20 minutes - - I am running a 2 yr old Gateway Vista 4 with 4 g RAM - - and then the install took 5 minutes. Rollover was like 2011 - -speedy
Opening a simple 1 W-2, single return took 3 minutes, but everything appears to be there.
I actually closed the program & the second time I opened the SAVED return - -it took about 30 seconds - - -
Progress!!!!
But - -I have lost 2 weeks - - -$$ and patience - - -I did however - -NOT lose weight - - -
I was thinking last night that I'm not sure anybody can tell that this is NOT the official board at first blush. Kinda understand the mistake.
I really want to do some tax returns. I am about done with W-2's and payroll reports. Just like all of you, I'm sure. Would love to wake up and the software problems were just a bad dream.
