  1. Joel, Not to insult you, but it is time to lighten up on the relentless bashing of ATX. You have made your point and you appear to have made your move to Drake. Some of us have our own process to work through and we will, without further nudging from you. Drake may be in our future. I appreciate all the positive feedback that you provide about the comparative benefits. But your bitterness toward ATX is seeping through and getting tiresome. I only started to follow these forums this year and have found the information and comradery very helpful. A lot is at stake for all of us. With three weeks yet to go, those of us still using ATX just need to get to finish line. Wish us luck. If I am out of line for expressing this, let me know.

  2. In the beginning you will have to tell the program where to export the returns. Have your device (presumably USB) connected. Check the box in front of the returns you want to export. Go to Program Manager, Returns, then navigate to export checked returns. It will probably ask you where you want to export them. Browse for your device. Mine happens to be E: Store and Go. When you have that directory in the box, click on OK or Export; whatever it says. Pretty much after the first time, when you are working on a return and click on Export, the system will know where to take it. A box will open up. If you have exported it before; as I am exporting them every couple of minutes while working on them; it will say this return already exists, do you want to override it. Obviously, if you have made changes the answer will be YES. You can then carry your device to any computer that contains the ATX 2012 program and "import" the return into that program. Really, really wonderful.

  3. I've had a few times over the years when someone questioned my price. Not so much any more since I usually bring it up at the outset with a new client even if they don't. But in those situations when they did question it, I always told them to just send me a check for whatever they think it's worth. Most of the time they paid the full bill, and I didn't have to deal with the cheapskates any longer. I especially rememeber one guy who did press me a bit, because he was determined to get me to agree to a lower amount. I kept telling him this wasn't a negtiation. I didn't have a different figure in mind, but if he knew more about the value of my services than I did, then he should be able to determine what's fair. He got very frustrated because I wouldn't play his negotiation game. He kept telling me I was being unreasonable. I just assumed he had just finished his "assertiveness training" seminar and was trying to practice it on me. Maybe he should have been negotiating for a refund of the money he wasted with them.

  5. Today I had a TP that didn't agree on my fees this year, without hesitation I told them I don't mind if you go somewhere else, here are your papers back, and I proud of myself I didn't back out of the price .

  7. I used the Parsons software for several years--best I've ever used. Like you, I was ticked big time with Intuit for killing it. I didn't realize they were resurrected as Second Story/TaxACT. I just googled Bob Parsons, the founder of Parsons Technology. I was shocked to discover he was the founder of GoDaddy.com!!! Check him out at www.bobparsons.me

  8. When people leave an existing good relationship to go to another preparer who handles a bunch of people from the same location/profession, sometimes it is because this new preparer promises better refunds and is probably padding certain categories, especially on the bottom of the schedule A. I find this is common among the bus drivers and police officers in our area. And it isn't all too surprising that these returns get submitted as self prepared....

  9. Things like that really bug me. I also feel that the people who do this type of thing are the people I've done the most for. Sorry, Yardley!

  11. Reluctantly, I do not share your optimism about ATX even being around for next year.

  12. Do NOT do 12.11. So far 12.12 has been good for me, but 12.11 was a disaster for the network. Wait and see what happens before doing anything. If you do 12.12, it will do/fix all that 12.11 would have done.

  13. We are waiting until Monday or Tuesday to update to 12.12. Don't want to be down without Tech Support. Do they offer Sunday support this year?

  14. I just took a look at mine and none of them have a single digit kb count. I still don't trust it. I am exporting every return to an external device just as I have every other year. For some reason, my program isn't acting foolish any more. I have not installed the last two updates. I have never had the printing or disappearing check boxes that others have had. Have only had a few crashes and speed isn't all that bad. It HAS to be something to do with standalone, Win 7 64 bit.; and loaded up Ram. Today I did a Partnership and three pretty complicated returns; some rentals; a C with estimates and encountered no issues. Tomorrow may be another story. I am truly thankful and still running around 41 returns behind. Wishing you all well, but Margaret and a few others seem to be doing about the same as I am. There has to be a reason.

  15. So your are CCH and you have been working for a period of time towards this new version of ATX for tax year 2012. For the years this new version has been in development, they have been programming two versions - the old ATX in the field through the end of ty2011 and the new ATX set to debut for ty2012. At the end of tax season 2011, they execute that step in the plan that says stop making changes to the old ATX and do a full court press to get the new ATX out for ty2012. As the deadline approaches, you realize "holy cow, we are not ready." Now what do you do? You have done nothing at all with the old ATX and there is no way to get it ready in time, and the new ATX is also not ready. I don't know what choice they really had but to do what they did and live with the consequences.

  16. Also, was the client diagnosed at a level 1,2 or 3? Unable to perform at least 2 activities of daily living for 90 days? Cognitively impaired? Was assistance prescribed?
