  1. Although you can complete and e-file your tax return now, the Free File companies will hold it until Jan. 31 when the IRS begins accepting returns. We can do that same thing.

  2. I read that too, but wonder how many people will. I just hate for kids to rush out to file their returns and mess up their parents by claiming an exemption for themselves even though they shouldn't.

  4. Use Admin (case sensitive) and leave the password field blank. Then go in under security settings and set them up the way you want. The username and password ARE case sensitive. Updated.... User Names No Longer Case-Sensitive In ATX 2013, user names are no longer case-sensitive. Passwords remain case-sensitive. For more on setting up user names and passwords, see Adding Users to the System in Program Help.

  5. PaulaP15, welcome to the UNofficial ATX forum. I'm glad some of the advice here helped you get up and running again with ATX. You might find that perusing the topics and comments in the Other Vendors section to be useful, although there isn't much discussion about Proseries there. Although most here use the ATX program, this group does include some members that have moved on to other tax software providers. If you'd like more information on either of those programs, perhaps you should post your specific questions regarding those in a separate topic here, and Drake-specific questions in that subforum for those members here that are using it. We will try to help you as best we can.

  7. There used to be a time where I was "the poster girl" for all of the above (however, I am, by nature, a morning person). I was going from 7 AM- 10 PM......in the past. (Almost cost my marriage!) Now...weather permitting....I go out for a lunch break (even just a slice of pizza) daily. Oh....and every Wednesday morning....I hit the local casino. It breaks up the week beautifully. I find that my phone/e-mail is busier in the afternoon........so I get as much as I can done in the morning......then relax and take the calls later in the day. Remember....there is no such thing as a tax emergency.

  9. <<its hard to get the pizza shop or locksmith etc to set up proceedures to get W-9 info on everyone they pay. >> However, that is the requirement by the government. We require all vendors to submit a W9 before they can get paid. We just don't cut the check without a W9 on file. If they want to sue us for non-payment, then they can go into a courtroom and explain to a judge that they don't want to get a 1099 at the end of the year. Tom Hollister, CA

  10. I saw one this morning that asked something to the effect of: "Did you give that shirt you hate to a person who likes it?" Thanks a lot, now I can explain to even more people that you cannot deduct gifts to individuals. And fewer will believe me. I mean, after all, it was on TV...

  11. 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 & 5. Whoa. BINGO! At times, everyone of these points, is an area of struggle for me. This is a perfect time to hit the reset button. Multi-tasking is especially challenging, because I feel bombarded by so many distracting events throughout the day. Emails, phone calls, employee questions, and of course the long "to-do" list. Sometimes I feel like I am working through an obstacle course of tasks and the finish line is my bed! Actually, I consider checking in on the ATX Community, a quick break. I look forward to the "laugh of the day."

  12. I have attended 3 different seminars for 2013 taxes that all spoke and provided the information for me to give my clients an estimate of the penalties if they are not insured. I also am now equipped to explain how the penalties, and subsidies are treated on 2014 tax return. The information is out there. The first one I attended was in early December.
