  1. Good Morning All, First, and update. My youngest son will be graduating from High School in 2 weeks and has been named Class Salutatorian. He will be attending UC Berkely in the fall. MIT's loss is Cal's gain. He will also be continuing his internship at NASA AMES Research Center this summer. My oldest son continues at San Jose State and has set the curve in 4 of his 5 Engineering Classes this semester. Since transfering into San Jose State from Junior College, he has recieved an "A" in every class he has taken. Enough with the braggin'. You all know I am "Super Dad" when it comes to my kids. To reward my youngest son, we are going to Washington DC on vacation for a week. We plan to spend at least a day in the Air and Space museum, have a tour of the Capital set up, and have requested from our Congressman tours of the White House, Supreme Court, Bureau of Engraving and Library of Congress. We will also get to Arlington and the Hall of Freedom. Any other things that you think are a can't miss when you go to DC? Thanks Tom Hollister, CA

The Capital Wheel opened today. http://nationalharbor.com/capitalwheel/ From that Wheel, you can take 3 ferries to somewhere (including Alexandria and Mount Vernon) You can grab a duck at Union Station, which is cool http://www.unionstationdc.com/info/sightseeing http://www.dcducks.com/ PS: You can also visit Pacun.

  3. My husband was just there in Oct on the Honor Flight. It was one of the most moving experiences of his life. Be sure to see the Veterans Memorials.

  4. I like it. An illustration of the principles behind a slide rule - basically a visual representation of log scales. I'm trying to decide if this is a 2-dimensional representation of these math principles, or if the introduction of different-color lines for the zero values technically makes it 3-dimensional. Maybe Rita will grade my paper...

  5. I think the IRS has been visiting the ATX forum, look at the topic for the 2104 IRS nationwide tax forum: 23. Is This Deductible? My Barber Seems to Think So! (T) (F) Your clients receive bad advice all the time. Worse yet, they bring that bad advice to your office in the form of "my neighbor tells me he deducts <insert crazy, completely illegal idea here>." As a paid preparer, you're signing that return and only legitimate deductions may be included. The course will address deductions in general, the concept of "ordinary and necessary," and deductions some professions, such as fire fighters, law enforcement, and transportation workers, believe are acceptable. Presented by the National Association of Enrolled Agents, www.naea.org.

  8. Regarding the 8879, I am always amused that the clients are so particular in signing EXACTLY how "they" (I) have it on the form. I always want to say, "Just sign already; you didn't give two 's about anything else on the return. Now is not the time to get concerned with accuracy."
