I just got internet at the new house to post this: new for this year client sent me 3 emails regarding the bill she just got from the FTB for 2014. The second email was the remaining stuff I needed to file 2014. They got a demand letter back in June, so the bill for the SFR includes the failure to file after demand letter penalty. I've been trying to explain (by text no less) why, even if they are getting refunds they owe this particular penalty. Have not iterated how their EMERGENCY is not my emergency.

A nice piece of twine makes a good emergency substitute. But be careful not to tie too good of a knot in it!

I am aware of only ONE suggestion that was ever acted upon (although governmental rather than private). And it illustrates the importance of WHO makes it. I used to attend annual CPE statewide seminars sponsored by the University of Arkansas. Many moons ago our seminar fee (books, breaks, blather) was nicely 40 bucks ($240 now, I think). Then one year a new lecturer showed up and, first thing, said "This seminar fee is ridiculously low; I'll speak to the board about it." Lo and behold, next year the fee was $100. And, we were moved from Holiday Inn to the break room of a local factory. Who says government can't operate efficiently?

JohnH, this makes me think of the "I'm Billing Time" song!

I find that the local chapters of professional organizations that host CPEs really do read the comments. The big corps like NCPE and even NATP when the national group delivers the courses pay no attention. Around here NATP is begging people to attend their "famous 1040 workshop," still held at the same dump people have been complaining about for years and finally voted with their feet. The local NATP events, are so well attended they had to move to a larger venue. There's a lesson in here somewhere..... Tonight we got a phone call for a political survey. You can bet people are paying attention to those responses.

"Progress Billing" - I like it. There's a cost associated with the time involved each and every time a file is pulled for review, updating, and sending another inquiry to the client. Your time is your inventory, and they are consuming your inventory, well in advance of the time the project is completed.

That's how I get my incentive....someday I'll fit into those elephant bells with the 30" waist. Can only wear them on one day, Halloween. Better stop eating today...or last month.

I've been purging and packing all day, all last night too. Still have to do the payroll tax returns for me and one client. Pay bills. Drop clothing off at the WEAVE thrift store (I think they'll be happy to get my business suits and other professional clothes plus a lot of other stuff I've unfortunately outgrown). Do an amended return and three (easy) back returns. Call one client that never picked up their returns. Email another one that hasn't paid. Got rid of all the really old tax materials; I guess if I have to look up 2005 tax law I'll just have to use the internet. Never did get around to putting a bunch of stuff on the lawn with a 'FREE' sign on them. I can't wait til this move is over!!!
