  1. The worksheet is actually asking for an EIN of (one of) the payer(s), but if you don't have that, have more than one, and especially since the worksheet is NOT sent with the e-filing, I'd suggest just entering all zeroes and move on through the processing.

  2. Anybody else contemplating waiting until the 13th or 14th to submit their efiles? Maybe I'm a bit paranoid or just shell shocked by everything already going on with this tax season but I can see the IRS and/or state networks getting over whelmed when all the Turbo Tax, HRB and all the other prepares hit the button on February 12th.

  3. I'm just alerting anyone that is preparing a Nebraska Tax return, individual or entity, that there is a new form PTC that will be extra work. It is a credit for school property taxes paid and you may not receive the property tax forms from the client. You will need to use the new property tax lookup tool to get the correct school district tax amount for the parcel(s) of land owned. Here is a link to it. https://ndr-1107parcel.ne.gov/parcelldLookup/faces/search.xhtml If you don't have the parcel numbers, you will need to go to the different county assessor websites. Fun! I know that the Nebraska Society has been in touch with the government to see if there could be an easier way to do this, but I have not seen anything recently. I just looked up an individual and the research took me about 6 minutes to on both websites. Then it all has to be entered on the PTC form. Very few people bring me their tax statements. They write it down or just bring me their mortgage statement. It will be much longer for anyone that owns multiple parcels. I am absolutely charging extra for every return. For some reason, neither of the tax update schools that I attended in December talked much about this credit. The Nebraska Department of Revenue does have a couple of videos on their website about it.

  4. Based on the suggestion above, stop and start the print spooler then: Right-click the Start button. Click Run. Type services.msc Right-click Print Spooler — you might have to scroll down to find it. Click Stop. Do the same to start it. or open the command prompt as an administrator and type: net stop spooler and then net start spooler.

  5. If you search the board you will find many lengthy threads about this problem in past years. Assuming it's the same problem as in years past, basically the ATX program fills up your print buffer with garbage, then it crashes when the buffer overflows. When you reboot your system, your print buffer is cleared allowing you to use the program again. If you search the old threads there are more direct ways to address the problem.

  6. If you have another printer, please change your default printer. Update the drivers for your printer. To isolate the issue, make a pdf printer your default, print the return to pdf and then print the pdf file. Also, open 2019 and print from there. If ONLY ATX 2020 is the one with the issue, you might have to reinstall. What version of Windows 10 are you using? How much RAM does your computer have?

  7. Anything related to normal maintenance or repair type items, to fix or maintain its condition, haven't been deductible or included in selling expenses since the Tax Relief Act of 1997.

  8. Only those costs that would be considered a capital improvement can be added to the basis of this investment property. Other expenditures that are of the nature of repairs, maintenance, or fixing up aren't deductible and are not additions to basis.

  9. There is also the issue that many clients have multiple 1099-R forms. Therefore, entering one number for the total withholding does not make sense.

  11. I did not think this was in Biden's proposed bill. I thought this was a separate proposal by Durbin and Axne. I feel sure that Biden will go along if the bill gets any traction but i think it is a separate issue - or did they propose it as an amendment to his bill?

  12. Nothing, if it gets rid of the error, but in some cases people are still having problems with this and ATX's own solution in the error says that entering all zeroes is OK, and we now have 5 separate topics on this very worksheet. This shouldn't even be a required entry since the worksheets aren't transmitted with the e-file anyway. If it were me, I'd enter all zeroes every time and move on.

  15. This is going to be a real mess! The state of Ohio has identified 62,000 fraudulent unemployment claims for which erroneous 1099 Gs have been mailed. The state of California back in November had 77,000 active investigations of fraudulent unemployment claims. A lot of tax refunds are going to be held for months!
