  2. I use Firefox for both IRS stuff and Vanguard (and everything else). Very few sites don't play nice on it. The program automatically blocks trackers, and you can turn off animation for each site. I hate bouncing ads!

  3. Perhaps this online class sponsored by CPA Practice Advisor will show me how to get my clients to fill out their Tax Organizers. This started off my day with a good belly laugh "How can you better automate client interactions? Find out tomorrow"

  4. And here I am dreading actually having to close all of the gazillion open tabs across multiple windows to allow my browser to update. Reminds me an awful lot of Windows 98, Internet Explorer, and a certain antitrust lawsuit.

  5. I do that every night. Clear the cache, cookies, and the history.

  6. I stopped using CCleaner because it was clearing all my settings in Firefox add-ons, which was terrible annoying. I set all my browsers to clear the cache when closing, but I don't clear cookies or site data because it makes logging in that much harder. But Firefox does have an 'Exception List' to save cookies you want, so once I've done that for my regular sites, I'll have FF delete cookies and site data on close, as well.

  10. I have had sites where clearing my browser history solved any issues.

  11. A UK pension received by a US "tax resident" is taxable on Form 1040. Enter it on the "FECWKST" -- the Foreign Employer Compensation & Pension form -- an annoying form that requires what seem to be duplicate addresses and treat the taxpayer as still being overseas. The bigger fight might be with US state treatment. It should qualify for most state's exclusion of all or a portion of a 'private'/non-governmental pension (unless it indeed is from a government but I haven't handled one of those). But I have had to fend off a couple of states that took issue with the lack of an EIN as well as monthly amounts that varied because of foreign-exchange fluctuations. Good luck!

  12. Sometimes, sites have a problem with Firefox when you have certain ad ons like an ad blocker or pop-up blocker. I think my biggest with any browser is the pop-up blocker. Sites will have a "click on this" acceptance box and the browser will block it and thus the entire website. I log into a University library and oddly, only Internet Explorer works. Literally nothing will open unless you open with IE and EDGE must be using IE Mode. The biggest oddity I've seen with Windows 11 is that you tell Edge to use IE Mode on a website (you have to physically add it to a list) and then every time you visit the site it gives you a warning that you are using ID Mode. Duh? I find that stuff just frustratingly dumb.

  13. Thanks for those that mentioned Firefox working with Vanguard and EFTPS. I checked both and you all are correct that those sites do work with it. I believe my problem with Vanguard may have been caused by an old bookmark. That leaves only the online pharmacy to deal with, and I'll switch that over to MS Edge because the site on Firefox doesn't have a link to pay the part D premiums.

  14. I used the Mozilla Suite (I came to it through using Netscape). When they brought out Firefox I downloaded it and have been using it since it debuted. I've used it with EFTPS every month since then without a problem. I have my EFTPS form telling me I signed up in 2002. I use one called The SeaMonkey Project for some things - wouldn't recommend it but it's really a spinoff open source Firefox. I use Edge for some work sites I'm required to have a citrix certificate to access.

  15. I'm just glad that I don't use Chrome. I've been using Firefox for years and am pretty comfortable with it. There are occasional updates but nothing like I've seen with Chrome as reported by cbslee.

  16. The IRS will be sending out letter 6475 in early 2022 with the amount of the third EIP. Sending out an email to all my clients to look for the letter and make sure they keep it.

  17. It depends on what state you're in. It's a crime to fail to file a return in NY, punishable by fines and prison time. Best to let an attorney handle it.

  18. You don't need an attorney. You can negotiate on behalf of your client, same as an attorney would. I've done this once that I recall.

  19. You may want to hold off and refer your client to a tax attorney. If the corp should have been filing in NYS and may owe big time, but the state doesn't know about them, they will often strike a deal. The attorney tells them they have a delinquent client who owes $XXX and is willing to come forward and pay $whatever. The state may just agree or at least negotiate because if the client doesn't come forward and never gets caught, it gets nothing. Penalties and interest go away with the deal. (I learned this from a guest speaker in my master's program. His clients found $10 million in cash in a deceased relative's attic--the person owned a lot of real estate in NYC and collected much of the rent in cash. The attorney presented an anonymous deal to the state and negotiated from there.) It will cost your client but you should give them the option. I know what you mean by having to jump through hoops to give away money. Our stupid grocery store with its stupid loyalty card and stupid rewards points gave me the option of donating my rewards to the local food bank. When I tried to do that, I learned I had to download an app to my phone to make the donation. While I had no problem with giving away my points, I was not going to give away my privacy and allow them to track everywhere I go and everything I do.

  20. This is what I said on another post and it might be helpful in your case. "Enter the 1099-R and when finish, scroll down and check "check box ONLY for Cornoavirus (CARES Act)...." that will trigger form 8915-E. On form 8915-E, enter the date of the earliest 2020 distribution to the left of the amount from 1099-R. If it is not from IRA, you click the box on page 1, and pay all taxes now. If you don't click the box, then 1/3 will be taxable. If client has returned money to the plan before filing (including extension), you enter that amount on line 10 for OTHER THAN IRA. IRAS have section III with the same choices but as long as you enter the 1099-R correctly the amount will flow to the correct section. Remember that you have to attach form 8915-E after signed for efiling."

  21. "Microsoft has decided to block the popular third-party app EdgeDeflector on Windows 11. The app helps users open links on browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. With the new move, Microsoft will now force Windows 11 users to open URLs from Start menu and Widgets panel search results only on Edge browser. EdgeDeflector developer Daniel Aleksandersen criticised the blocking by saying the company appears to be prioritising “advertisement, bundleware, and service subscriptions” over user' productivity, as per a blog post"
