  1. Supposedly, if you mark a return complete in ATX, it will not update, but, like you, I always keep a PDF. It's so much more handy than a paper copy, which can be lost or misplaced, and must be stored somewhere, not to mention printing and paper costs.

  2. I haven't used a third party antivirus program for years, since according to tech articles I have read Microsoft does a satisfactory job.

  3. I keep both a paper copy and a pdf copy, since I am semiretired keeping a paper copy isn't a big deal.

  4. I started my kids at about age 10 waving a sign in front of my office and shredding docs from prior years. They filled out a timecard and got paid on payroll at minimum wage. No PR taxes. Gave them a W2 at the end of the year. All wages went into a Roth. I took the deduction. The work was legit and it was great training for the kids. Both still have those Roth IRAs, but one of them used part of it for college tuition. Tom Longview, TX

  5. I have done something similar before but not with a child that young. In addition every state has child labor laws that govern the employment of children. In my state, children employed must be no younger than 14.

  6. I keep a pdf copy and the client always has a pdf copy in their Verifyle account. I gave up paper copies several years ago. On rare occasion, I may have a copy of a more complicated return with all the statements and worksheets but can't think of any at the moment. I also have an internal backup drive, an external hard drive (both used weekly or more) and a constant online Backblaze backup.

  7. I am totally paperless, and I always keep pdfs that serves as the archive copy. The reason to do this is because program updates, law clarifications, and retroactive law changes subsequent to filing can change any return that is generated by the program when it is reopened. I use the document manager and print everything to pdf that I then print the client paper copy for them. The client copy pdf is usually an abbreviated copy where I've decided what is necessary and also those backup worksheets ("keep for your records") that I deem useful to provide, and that pdf contains exactly what is given to them. The preparer copy pdf has much more: the entire return plus all of the computer-generated notes, preparer notes, due diligence, backup worksheets not actually e-filed, and transmission reports.

  8. I keep a paper copy. Archaic; probably, but we find them very useful.

  9. Update: I deleted the authenticator on my iphone and went back to the App store. Turns out, when I entered BitWarden in search, the search results did not have BitWarden at the top. So I screwed up by clicking on the top result and downloaded some unknown authenticator app. This time I downloaded the real thing and it is a much cleaner process. Geez...one more year...

  10. Antivirus exclusions are based on exe filenames, so if you excluded atx.exe for every year you have installed, it should work. But there are other exe files involved in ATX so you might want to exclude those, too. 11. I keep .pdf copies of the "accountant's" copy automatically, separately from the program files. The client receives an electronic copy along with his eSign. I put a client copy .pdf in my portal upon request. I will be printing even fewer paper client copies next season. If a client needs a later copy, ProSystem fx asks me if I want any changes before I can open that client, so I can print or make a .pdf as originally filed.

  12. If you are filing form 1128 for an existing S corp, the instructions to that form says that if you are changing the accounting and tax reporting year to a fiscal year under sec 442 and reg sec 1.442-1(b), then you are to follow Rev Proc 2006-46, and section 7.02 item (5) of that Rev Proc says this:

  16. I apologize, it appears that some of the rules may have changed, since I helped my client. You should read the instructions for Form 1128 : https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1128.pdf
