  1. What is the difference between an IRS agent and a mosquito ? One is a blood sucking parasite and the other is an insect.
  2. High school math teacher for 31 years. Loved the joke.
  3. I agree unless someone has come across this type of situation researching is the way to go. IRS call might lead you to a quick solution as well.
  4. Taught math for 31 years wonderful one.
  5. That's what we need everyday on this board.
  6. 14 lines on form so litle to answer yet so many problems???
  7. Seems like there are a lot of problems. Back a few years ago didn't the old forum have a joke of the day??
  8. The website at IRS is like others they don't post info immediately.
  9. just tried it. I have pop up blocker on so i clicked it and the info appeared.
  10. You only enter the 250 if a senior got the 250 and also worked.
  11. May want to check the little * on the refund cycle chart as well. " The IRS does NOT guarantee a specific day when the refund will be deposited or mailed. " If they are not promising to guarantee the date why would you tell your clients they are? Tell them that this is the expected day but not the promised day.
  12. I tried it . I typed in 7 entries it did not open a new 8283 on the fifth line it said see attached. It did not enter #5 #6 or #7 and did take the correct total to sched A. I did have two copies of 8283 open as they were needed last year but nothing went on to the second one.
  13. No change to federal or state returns would occur then right.
  14. It is my belief that preparer is what should appear there. You could modify page 2 1040 and type in the info you want.

If all is taxable put 40000 in box 2 as well. I would then uncheck the box to say taxable amount not determined because you determined it was all taxable.
  16. Might be able to amend the return showing proof that the check was stopped. Did he get a pay stub where the yearly toals on w-2 supposedly matched the check stub of the check that was stopped payment on?
  17. Providing Information to the Taxpayer The ERO must provide a complete copy of the return to the taxpayer. EROs may provide this copy in any media, including electronic, that is acceptable to both the taxpayer and the ERO. The copy need not contain the social security number of the paid preparer. A complete copy of a taxpayer's return includes Form 8453 and other documents that the ERO cannot electronically transmit, when applicable, as well as the electronic portion of the return. The electronic portion of the return can be contained on a replica of an official form or on an unofficial form. However, on an unofficial form, the ERO must reference data entries to the line numbers or descriptions on an official form. If the taxpayer provided a completed paper return for electronic filing and the information on the electronic portion of the return is identical to the information provided by the taxpayer, the ERO does not have to provide a printout of the electronic portion of the return to the taxpayer. The ERO should advise the taxpayer to retain a complete copy of the return and any supporting material. The ERO should also advise taxpayers that, if needed, they must file an amended return as a paper return and mail it to the submission processing center that would handle the taxpayer's paper return. Refer to the current year’s tax package for addresses.
  18. I have it print my name on 8879 and page 2 of federal return.
  19. Purpose of the credit was to encourage spending last spring. By giving everyone an additional 400 over several weeks. Now so that your refund will not be affected the government is giving you the credit. However, if you worked more than one job and both employers were giving you 400 extra each and your spouse 400 extra each from her two jobs you got 1600 but only should have gotten 800. Dependent children might owe the IRS as they got the extra dough but do not qualify to keep it.
  20. Is it the electronic version of the California return. Seems like last year the california return from ATX was the efileable one and since I was not approved to e-file in CA. I had to download a from from California.
  21. I'd agree. Michigan has a law on the books I think that would not allow you to claim the mother of the child.
  22. If you rolled over all your returns before you changed the client letter those rolled over returns picked up the old client letter. Try throwing out the client letter when you open a return and then adding a client letter.
  23. For me the answer is simple. Prepare returns - collect the money - eifile the return. I'm lucky that I have over 95% returning customers and with yearly recommends my client base stays around 425. No RALS FEE COLLECTS all the other distractions. I feel blessed with my customer base and the occasional can I pay you when my refund comes. Prepared 437 returns last year only stiffed once. Guess I was supposed to do that one for free. But I won't be doing that one again. After the 15th of April my biggest concern is why am I pushing those tee shots to the right.
  24. Believe you would only sign the 8879 and not page 2 of the 1040.
