I WILL obtain my E.A. certification by the end of the year. This will be my leverage into the "DIY" tax prep group when they get those notices. 2014 will be a huge disaster for the "DIY" tax prep group due to the intricacies of the "ACA." I use quotes because by no standard based in reality is it "Affordable." With my E.A. designation, come 2015 I will be in demand big time in my town.

I am seriously contemplating a trip back to your place for that racing spectacular that happens up there. I might drive and bring enough equipment to properly set that system up in your vacation home. More driving, but I can bring a trunk full of stuff! Then I can take home as much of the AWESOME cheese like that block you graciously gave me as a gift when I was there. However, it will NOT be in the wintertime!!!

Sounds like you are overdue to raise some fees on those problem people. You ARE worth more than you are charging. I have not known any self-employed tax preparer (myself included) that charged what is appropriate for the level of training, experience and skill that is required. I instituted a 25% increase in my base minimum. I had 3 people ask, and not one complaint after the explanation.

I just can't believe that Catherine continues to live in that very "unique" state. (I mean the State of MA, not any other "state.")

An auditor told us the only CERTAIN way to verify an extension is the electronic acknowledgement. Certified does not cut it. "The card does not verify what was in the envelope." We have lost the argument for appealing late filing notices when the extension was mailed by Certified Mail just as I described. The only information that works is the electronic acknowledgment. We e-filed every extension this year. A little more work, but the process will be smoother next year as the forms rollover. We extended 15 corporate and 300 personal.

Transmitted is the key. The return is time stamped when ATX receives it from you. Not to worry.

At the firm, I transmitted 520 files today. Many extensions but nearly 300 returns. I sent them about every hour from 9:00 AM till 6:00PM. I have received 20 acks. No need to worry. Just the usual last minute filer traffic jam.
