  1. "I think I will stand by my insistence that she must have a physician's prescription before I would consider and then maybe" is the correct position.
  2. You can make the addition so it is totally isolated from the rest of your home (except for one door to get in from you house.) Then you have no one to deal with as a landlord/tenant but yourself. I cannot imagine going to a separate office. I can achieve the total isolation I described by converting my attached 2 1/2 car garage. Just my experience...
  3. I sent you a message...
  4. This is not an internet connection problem. It is a problem with traffic or technical issues at ATX.
  5. Make that paragraph bold and one size larger font. Place it at the end right above where they sign on your engagement letter. Go for it. I am doing something similar as well.
  6. I like JohnH's process. Spend the extra bucks to send it certified, then forget it. Increase fees.
  7. How about adding an addition to your home for your office. I currently work from home, and will never change that. I may take the garage and rework it, but won't ever have a separate office in a different location.
  8. I had an entire packet of information that had obviously been wet and dried out without being pressed. Tough to read through the wrinkles.... I was praying that it was only water.... Then there are the folks that bring every tax document still sealed in the envelope it was sent in....
  9. If your office is ever compliance audited, you must be able to prove the identity of every taxpayer you file a return for. Also, prove that every child in a family that receives EIC is legitimately eligible with proof of residence, age, etc. Just ask a preparer that has been compliance audited....
  10. Some people are too paranoid for their own good. This comes from listening to the media instead of using one's own mind and intellect.
  11. wow I was putting together a response very similar. Being a member since 2007 when this site was born, I have the greatest respect for KC and although she and I have bumped heads a few times, I still respect the choice that Eric made to make her moderator. I cannot say it any better than Judy just did and echo her sentiments completely.
  12. Unless all of you submit your complaints and suggestions through the suggestion box, all your complaining and whining will be just complaining and whining. I said this before, when we were at the CAB meeting, we were all shocked at how FEW suggestions and complaints were submitted. Suggestions and complaints that are reported or submitted from the most users get attention.
  13. Duplicate the return, transmit the extension from the duplicate. There is a tiny e-file glitch since 13.5. Since 13.5, I have had to do this process to 8 returns out of the 1,400+ I have e-filed. Some for the extensions, others for the return itself. The process does fix the problem.
  14. Do the distance test. Since there is no "new workplace", test fails. Black and white here.
  15. I started giving all my "complimentary" tax return family clients a bill with my full prices on it and a discount to $0 in VERY LARGE FONT, just for information purposes. This year my nephew, a 1099MISC truck driver local routes only, stated to me - "All the other guys take Per Diem if they are out more than 6 hours." My response - "Come get your information and let your truck driving buddies do your tax return. I will have them ready in 15 minutes." Two weeks later he calls and asks in a quiet apologetic voice if I would file his return like I said it should be. His bill showed 50% larger than normal fees before the family discount.
  16. How many times have you entered the client's SS# as the EIN on a W-2 or 1099-R? I stopped counting. Some W-2s have them directly above one another....
  17. Copied... The way I see it is that this is a private forum created and owned by Eric, assume you made some payments to Eric those were donations not membership fees. Nothing gives you the right to dictate how it is being run Eric owns the board and KC is his majordomo. The only one here who could censor her is Eric. Maybe if you ask nicely Eric will set up a forum for "SCL approved posts". The only comments KC should get are thank you's for all the work and time this takes from her life. Thank You michaelmars...
  18. 1040 Efile info form page 1. Tab at the bottom of the input page - "Included E-File Forms."
  19. Lots of monkey business.....
  20. How about this client.... Phone call: Them: "I have a couple of questions about my tax return I just received in the mail" Me: "OK, go ahead..." (As I am opening the return in my computer and get ready to answer) Them: "Did you add all my medical expenses?" "How about all the mileage for my business?" "Why is my refund smaller?" Me; " What numbers on the Sched. C do you think are not correct? How much should your medical expenses be? Did you see that your employer withheld $500 less this year?" Them: "Oh I don't have my tax return here. I am driving to meet some friends and thought I would ask...."
  21. The number are still only one in seven OIC get approved.
  22. I am partial to those that read the letter I send them in January, and follow the instructions. Heck, I am partial to the ones that can read....
  23. What are you putting in the taxable amount box? Should be $0 unless he is taking out more than his basis.
  24. Take the sermon notes, copy them in the copier in mirror image, then replace the originals with the copies....
