  1. Because so many people wait till the last day. It only gets worse each year. Here in Ohio, there is a large company that takes care of hundreds of cities tax returns. RITA. They just announced that they are extending the deadline till Monday due to their systems not able to handle the large rush. http://www.cleveland.com/brecksville/index.ssf/2014/04/rita_will_extend_filing_deadli.html
  2. I released all state returns today.
  3. Party in Sidney when??
  4. Akasaka, Akasaka, Akasaka, Aramara, Ateleta, Etsaste, Glenelg, Glenelg, Glenelg, Isakasi, Kangnak, Neuquén, Okonoko, Qaanaaq,
  5. Quick!! Get the paramedics!! He's gone over the edge.......
  6. Raining and snowing here, so no chance of seeing the "blood moon." All kinds of crazies predicting tragedies of all sorts... I will just wake up tomorrow like it is the next day. I would LOVE to be able to view and photograph the eclipse...
  7. Only ONE left to finish tomorrow!!
  8. If the donation total is over $5,000 per year, there MUST be a 3rd party appraisal. Simple as that. She should have asked you first. Probably would have benefited the charity more if she had sold the items and gave them the money.
  9. I will bet you a block of that AWESOME Real Wisconsin Sharp Cheddar Cheese that it will be the same next year.
  10. I often get the question about paying off the rest of their mortgage or credit cards. I have this response... "How is it smart to pay off 6% or 13% money with 40% money?" "When you called me, what did I recommend to you?" (The last one usually gets a total silence on the phone or they look away from me.) Most of the time the withdrawal puts them in the 25% bracket. Add 10% penalty and 4-5% for State and now you just paid 40% interest on the money you paid off those 6% and 13% loans with.
  11. When they say "I don't have any idea how to decide how much to send in with the extension. What would you do?" Me: You need to start with last year's amount owed and then think about any changes. Them. "I have no clue about any of that." Me: Send $5,000. Them: "WOW that is way too much!" Me: I thought you had no clue.....
  12. Additional note... Prevent any contact of Base with top of shoeless foot, especially the front half....
  13. Joan has the correct procedure. Nothing difficult. Just delete the unwanted e-file from the e-file manager.
  14. Any distribution from a retirement account requires the creation of a 1099R. I know of no exception to this.
  15. So say the regs, but we have received CP2000 for Box 7 Code "G" 1099Rs that were not included on the return. The notice even indicated that it was distribution code "G". Sounds good in theory, but in real life, if you don't put it on the tax return, you will get the CP2000. Investment companies are just finding more ways to reduce customer service by doing less.
  16. You cannot grow something where there is no fertile soil for the seed to land on. "IRS regulations do not allow it." "If you disagree, call, write or e-mail your congressman." (chances are he has no idea what Congress means, much less who his Congressman is) Do not waste your time trying to educate the "not willing to change my mind for any reason" people.
  17. I am totally weary of people (new clients?) expecting me to clean up multi-year messes created by completely irresponsible actions of grown adults for years. Especially after the passing of a relative. Just call me "...once too often taken advantage of for being a nice guy trying to help...."
  18. The e-file manager does do pages at 500 as well.
  19. Agreed! When you do meet with them, be sure to have a sign or a card that says... "Failure to plan on your Father's part, does not create responsibilities on my part." Do the best you can and let the coins fall where they do. You can't fix all the financially irresponsible actions of your clients or their families.
  20. I expect that within 5 years there will be some sort of ID PIN provided by the IRS for each taxpayer OR----- No refunds issued till W-2s and 1099s have all been processed. The era of fast tax refunds will be a thing of the past. But on the other hand, what's a few Billion dollars amongst politicians and lawmakers anyway....
  21. Yes, because until you complete the return, you don't know for sure if there will be taxes owed. Here in Ohio, most of the cities that have municipal income tax, want a copy of the extension and/or their own extension form filed.
  22. Or pathological liars...
  23. CCH should take notes about how to run a community website...
