  1. I will never forget that day as I saw it develop on TV. I could hardly believe what I was seeing. Wayne Brasch
  2. taxit, I will expand that reference I gave earlier as follows so that the comment may be more easily found: http://www.360financialliteracy.org/Financ...y+Insurance.htm. Wayne Brasch
  3. taxit, I found this comment at http://www.360financialliteracy.org/Financ...y+Insurance.htm. Veterans benefits: Disability benefits you receive from the Department of Veterans Affairs, formerly known as the Veterans Administration, are not taxable, except for certain payments for rehabilitative services. 4. Today's update of forms from ATX gets you the Form 706 and all of its various schedules for use for clients who have died in 2009. Wayne Brasch
  5. I always arrange with IRS or the State (whichever it may be) to meet with them at their office or at mine. I never let the meeting be at the client's place of business. I go alone without the client. I had a client one time that insisted that he wanted to attend the audit on his Schedule C business. I told him he should not be there, but he insisted. I told him it would not be good for him. We went into the IRS office at the appointed time. The auditor started with her usual questions that appeared on her checklist. I began answering them until a point was reached that she said, "The client is here, let him answer ." Her question to him was then, "Do you have domestic help that comes into your home?" To that he said, "Yes, so what does that have to done with anything?" She then asked, "Did you file all the appropriate payroll tax forms?" He said, "What payroll tax forms? No, I didn't know I needed to do that. Needless to say the situation went downhill from that point. This venture cost him a lot of additional tax, penalties, and interest for the three years prior to the year that was under audit. Had he stayed at home and let me go alone, when she asked the question about his household domestic help, I would have said that I didn't know but would find out for her. Most of the time that would have been the end of that series of questions. From this experience I learned to not allow the client to be involved with a tax audit. I don't allow the client to go with me nor do I allow an auditor to meet at a client's place of business. I meet the auditor at their office or they meet me at mine. Wayne Brasch
  6. I truly thank each and every one of you for your wishes! I have had a very good day today. Taxbilly and KC certainly get up early in the morning, don't they? Wayne Brasch
  7. They also said that the 2009 Tax Organizer would be included in an upcoming update as well as on the archive disk to be received later this year. Wayne Brasch

Why not make an adjusting entry for him to enter into his accounting records and get his records to correspond with your tax handling of his situation which, of course, is the correct way to handle this matter for tax purposes? That way there should never be any problem with it and the Balance Sheet and tax return can match as they should. Wayne Brasch
  9. Don in Upstate NY, TRX has their own product they introduced in July 2009. This is not TaxWise, per Braeden Kehoe at TRX. Wayne Brasch
  10. That possibility is really scary! Surely Congress would not do that to us, would they? Wayne Brasch
  11. That's a very special 12 year old! I really am impressed with how his parents handle him and the way he responded to that handling. Wayne Brasch
  12. This morning when I updated forms, the ATX program was also updated to Release:20081111, Program Version:2008.10.171, Build:11420. Wayne Brasch
  13. SunTaxMan, What I always do in cases such as this is to file a zero return and write "No payroll this quarter" accross the face of the Form 941. That keeps my client from getting letters later from IRS wondering why no return was filed. Wayne Brasch
  14. JRS, Is this TRX demo for the year 2008 or 2009 tax returns? Wayne Brasch
  15. Taxbilly, That's very true. I wonder how many taxpayers preparing their own returns may go back and add $300 to their earned income on their return as one line of that Schedule L says to do. Wayne Brasch
  16. It is amazing to me how complicated Congress and the IRS can make things. Wayne Brasch
  17. IRS is about to concentrate more audit time on hobby loss situations. Here is their newest Audit Guide on the subject. http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/articl...=208400,00.html. Wayne Brasch
  18. I have 4 GB of RAM and also use the application Advanced SystemCare Professional I mentioned already. I never have a lag of any type in any year's version of the ATX program. I have Windows Vista and the ATX programs since the 1998 tax filing season on my computer system. Wayne Brasch
  19. Carolyn, Since you get on the internet, your computer may pick up spyware and other things that slows it down. I would suggest you go to http://www.iobit.com and download their free Advanced SystemCare. This application cleans many things from your computer that can slow it down. It works in the background and should speed up ATX and everything else you do with your computer. They have a Professional version that does many more things, but the free version may be all you need. See what you think. Wayne Brasch
  20. MontanaEA, It has been my experience that concerning the Federal tax laws and Congress that when they "simplify" anything they really tend to make it more complicated in the long run. I truly hope they can accomplish a simplification in this case, but ... Wayne Brasch
  21. Randall, My present computer was purchased near the beginning of February, 2009 when my old one's motherboard went out. As you know, tax-filing season was beginning to speed up right about then. My system is 32 bit. My question is, is there any advantage to a 64 bit system? Wayne Brasch
  22. Randall, I've had Windows Vista ever since it came out. I have had no problems with any year's version of ATX products working with it. I have ATX products back to the the 1998 tax-filing season loaded on that computer. Wayne Brasch
  23. Booger, I think your problem may be that ATX programs install some of their files on your local C: (hard drive). If you are only trying to access ATX programs that are stored completely on your external drive, I don't think that will work for you. I would recommend putting your ATX installation CD in your computer and let that disk install those basic files and don't allow it to install the tax forms since they are already on your external drive. See if that helps at all. Wayne Brasch
  24. Lori, I am a dial-up user who has also been using ATX products since the 1998 tax-filing season. I never have any problem getting updates to the tax forms or program updates. Probably the longest I have had to wait for a program update has been maybe 15 minutes. I would like to have a more accelerated Internet experience, but so far I haven't done so. Wayne Brasch
  25. SteveM, It's not the place of the tax software-no matter which one you may use-to determine if your client is entitled to that itemized deduction. In my opinion, that is what tax preparers are for-to determine what deductions any of our clients may or may not be entitled to use. The tax must be actually paid by your client. It's not safe just to have assumed they paid it. Wayne Brasch
