  1. Dave T, He'll have to pay taxes twice on that ball, I guess. Once for fighting to get it at whatever value and for the $750K he got from the sale. I'm not really clear as to what value he is supposed to put on it in either case. What is his basis? Zero? Why does he owe taxes on just getting that ball? Is it sort of like a treasure trove discovered by someone? Wayne
  2. KC, I agree with you about ATX for now. I'm concerned about them in the future, though. I hope CCH/TaxWise/ATX or whatever name they may be called will keep people like us in mind when they decide about future plans. I,too, am sticking with ATX for the 2008 tax filing season and will wait to see what happens after that. I've not yet renewed, but the year is not over by any means. Wayne
  3. Around midnight on 9/21/07 I updated forms (about 8 forms were updated) and found that the program was also updated. I now have program version: 2006.23.27, Release: 20061115, Build: 6814, updated 9/21/07. Using my dial-up internet situation, this update took right under 20 minutes. I thought you might like to know this and get that update. Wayne
  4. I think it's great that tax season is just around the corner. That's my favorite time of the year! Wayne
  5. B. Jani, My survey got through about 10% or so and I got that message. I, too, tried again several times and the result was the same. I emailed Caroline Stone and told her if she truly wanted my opinion for her to please email the correct URL so that I could reply to the survey. That has been at least 4 days ago and I've not heard from her. It makes me wonder how much Synovate really wants to know. I don't hold this against ATX, though, they didn't send the initial email about the survey. Wayne
  6. Joel, Right after April 30, 2007 after I had finished all Sales tax and Payroll returns that were due after April 15, I installed Windows Vista Ultimate. I had and still have ATX products dated back to 1998 that run perfectly well on Vista. The program is not slow at all for any of those years. I don't know who may have told you that ATX and Vista cannot work together, but they are not correct. Wayne
  7. KC, Rest assured you and he will be in my prayers. You mean so much to all of us. Wayne
  8. For those of us using ATX products, you may be interested in knowing that when I updated forms through MAX a few minutes ago, there were 17 NY forms added and/or updated. Wayne
  9. Annie, You and your neighbor may want to look at this: http://www.census.gov/acs/www/. Wayne
  10. Deb, At what level are your cookies set? There are more than two levels of cookie acceptance. If yours is set too high, the ATXers website will not work properly since they insist on cookies. Wayne
  11. Deb, By any chance, did someone on those computers on which you can't get to MyATX, turn off cookies? To get on that website, you must have cookies enabled. That can be done through Tools on the toolbar at the top of Internet Explorer<Internet Options<Security tab. Look there and see at what level cookies are allowed. Wayne
  12. OldJack, It has been my experience that every time IRS audits a corporate client of mine, they always insist on having the corporate minute book at their disposal. They haven't all the time looked at it, but they request that it be made available to them. Wayne
  13. Mary, If there is a local community college or university near you, they sometimes offer tax classes in noncredit classes. Most of the time these types of classes start in September or October to have the people ready for when the next tax-filing season begins in January. If you don't have any of this kind of class nearby, many H & R Block or Jackson Hewitt offices have such beginning classes as Pacun has already told you. Wayne
  14. Eli, It might be helpful if you can find out for us the operating system she is using. Wayne
  15. Kea, That would be Form 3520. Wayne
  16. preacher, Have you thought about going to http://www.atxinc.com/atxers/index.aspx and make that suggest in the place provided on that website for such a thing? It would be helpful to let ATX know your thoughts on these smaller city forms. Wayne
  17. OldJack, I'm not confusing the withdrawal of retirement money to purchase a home for the first time buyer. This is a different situation as outlined at this website: http://www.pensiontransfers.net/_wsn/page5.html. Wayne
  18. JohnH, Some people had come to me after being directed to the website you highlighted. They said their accountant said this was the thing to do. I looked over the website and am still very skeptical. I told them they better be careful in this matter. Thank you for your information. Wayne
  19. Are any of you familiar with anything about Section 501(a) pension transfers where taking money from an IRA or 401(k) for the purpose of establishing a new business avoids the 10% early withdrawal penalty? If so, would you please tell me a little more about it? Thank you in advance for any information you may provide. Wayne
  20. I believe that construction loan interest should be added to the cost of the property during the construction period, not currently deductible. Wayne Brasch
  21. I have three such couples as you describe here. All of them involved with me knows that I will keep their individual situations away from the other party, I believe that is our duty both from an ethical and moral viewpoint. So far we have all gone through about three tax seasons since they split apart their marriages and I am still preparing all of their separate returns and making sure their personal information is between them and me-not to be shared with their ex's. Wayne
  22. I may have been very lucky, but everytime I've had to deal with a State Unemployment Division auditor, they just compared the payroll records with the returns that were filed and that has been the extent of it. So far, no problems have arisen with any of them. They were in and out very rapidly in each case. I hope you are as fortunate. Wayne
  23. When I updated forms this morning, I noticed the program components were also updated. Some of you may want to get the latest updates. Wayne
  24. Are they sending different emails to different ones of us, by any chance? Wayne
