  1. Deb, If I were preparing that client's return, I would expense that amount and be prepared to explain to IRS how this expenditure restored that property instead of improving it. Wayne Brasch
  2. Eagles Ridge, The mailing my Wife and I got from the Social Security Administration about this said the check would be deposited into our bank account by late May. Wayne Brasch
  3. MAS, In that case, I would amend the return before IRS does it for the taxpayer and charges them extra penalty and interest. Wayne Brasch
  4. MAS, Since there are several different Form 1099s, which one is involved in this situation? The answer to that question will give all of us a chance to give you the correct answer you are seeking. Wayne Brasch
  5. Margaret, If it makes you feel any better, I got a phone call today from Braeden Kehoe with TRX apologizing to me for my not yet receiving a receipt for the $728.95 check I sent to them to purchase their $699 membership plus $29.95 shipping and handling. On this invoice marked "PAID" it states Item Code 076 ATX 699 Renewal and Item Code 200 Shipping & Handling. Hopefully I will get ATX Total Tax Office when it comes out in the late Fall of this year. I had e-mailed Braeden my concern about all of this stuff we have all heard and read from Kim Manuel with CCH Small Firm Services. His call and e-mail was the result of that concern. Wayne Brasch
  6. KC, That same thing has been happening to me for about the past 6 months, or so. ATX support has not been able to tell me why this is so to my satisfaction. They don't seem to know why I can't get into that community forum. Something has happened somewhere to block some of us, it seems. Wayne Brasch
  7. It seems very strange to me that all representatives of TRX have seemingly disappeared off the face of the Earth. What has happened to them? Has CCH sucked them into a spaceship and transported them off somewhere else? Wayne Brasch
  8. howardfr, I am afraid that your client has loaned his money to the government for several extra months interest-free. I know of no way to get that money back now. Wayne Brasch
  9. Jerry, You are very welcome. I'm glad that both your computers have been helped with this program. Wayne Brasch
  10. Taxizen, I don't understand what you mean when you say "... but shows some printing questions". Please be more specific. Wayne Brasch
  11. Catherine, It makes you feel good, doesn't it, when clients recognize the fact that you went the extra mile for them to minimize their tax liability? I have several clients each year that pay me more than I billed them. Wayne Brasch
  12. The Georgia Department of Revenue had to cut costs so they laid off 129 workers who processed tax returns. The GA website reports that paper returns received prior to April 1, 2009 will complete processing within 10-12 weeks. Paper returns received between April 1, 2009 and April 10, 2009 will complete processing within 12-14 weeks. Paper returns received after April 10, 2009 will complete processing within 14-20 weeks. Some of you may have clients who may need to be told why they haven't yet gotten their refunds-now you know. Wayne Brasch
  13. Dennis, I think if you look at the instructions for Schedule C, Form 990, Part III-B here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i990sc.pdf that you'll see that ATX has done what the IRS instructions call for relative to this matter-however strange it may seem to be. Wayne Brasch
  14. Yardley CPA, Braeden Kehoe with TRX has answered this question in another thread. His answer there was "yes". Wayne Brasch
  15. KC, I went with TRX today. I just can't turn down the opportunity to use ATX Total Tax Office and all of its features at the price of $699 plus shipping of $29.95. Wayne Brasch
  16. Bonnie, As I understand it, Total Tax Office is what TRX is offering to supply to anyone who pays the $699 plus shipping of $29.95. Wayne Brasch
  17. Good for you, KC! Many thanks for your help in this forum and others. Wayne Brasch
  18. Cathy, Thank you for your comment. For antivirus protection, I use AVG Anti-Virus Free. Their website is at http://free.avg.com. That program is updated several times a day to keep up with changes in virus threats. Notice it's free, also! Wayne Brasch
  19. Another application that will get and keep one's computer running efficiently can be gotten at http://www.ccleaner.com. This program used to have been named Crap Cleaner, but that first word offended enough people that Piriform, the developers, now just call it CCleaner. It does its job very quickly. Try it and see if it works for you. It does for me-and it's free besides that! Wayne Brasch
  20. TAXBILLY, I'm thinking Smart Defrag is a component of the Pro version of Advanced SystemCare. Wayne Brasch
  21. Now that the busiest part of tax-filing season is over, some of us who have experienced very slow, inefficient computer operations may want to go to http://www.iobit.com. On that website they have a free item called Advanced SystemCare Free and another called Advanced SystemCare Pro. There is a fee in order to download the Pro version, but it does a better job of cleaning up an inefficient computer system. In each of them, you can just click on the Care! button in the middle of the interface and watch the program work. The free version does an adequate job, but does not have all the features of the other. Both of them work in the background to keep your computer tuned up. They both can and should be updated periodically to obtain the latest version just as do our tax programs. You might want to try these and see what you think. I started out with the free version and then upgraded to the more advanced model about a year or so ago. I never have any problem with slow opening programs as some of you have described in this forum. I have nothing to do with this website nor their programs except that I'm a happy user of the Pro version as I have already described. Try it and see what you think! Wayne Brasch
  22. Jack from Ohio, Open ATX 2008, in Return Manager, click on New, Federal, Payroll. At that point scroll down until you reach the numbers beginning with 9. There you will find Form 941 for 2009 and 2008. Wayne Brasch
  23. Janitor Bob, Good for you! During my professional tax preparation career that started in the 1963 tax-filing season, I've made it my policy to never prepare any tax return on April 15th. On that day, the only thing I will do for a client is to prepare and mail an extension for them, if they let me know they need one prior to the closing of the Post Office near me. I had a potential new client call me this morning and tell me he hadn't filed returns for the past 5 years and that he wanted to get his done for him today. I told him I would get an extension and we would see about doing them after Wednesday. I never allow my clients to stress me out because of their laziness or whatever else may have caused their procrastination. It's just not worth it. Wayne Brasch
  24. taxguy057, I would enter this amount from box 6 on Schedule C just as I would if it had been listed in box 7. I see no difference at all. Wayne Brasch
  25. Denne, Did you tell the program what part of 2008 the clients were residents of VA? Wayne Brasch
