Bitlocker does allow folder level encryption... but why bother? Just do the whole drive for best security.
-
I like to password protect files that contain passwords. Then I just need to remember the password.
-
You're obviously not a nerd.

It's possible to just encrypt your data drive, but not recommended. Many programs (ATX, QuickBooks, Thunderbird email, etc.) store data on the C drive by default. And I can't really think of any downside to encrypting all your partitions. I have 5 partitions and encrypted them all.

I was never crazy about having an internal modem because the only way to reset it is to reboot your computer. The two newest modems I have just plug into a USB port and they're tiny. They're powered by the USB port too. Isn't that just adorable?

I just have them on my hard drive with cryptic names but I can view them from my backup location if I ever need them.

Efax services often charge for too many outgoing. I'd rather pay the long distance fee. Plus I'd rather just fax from my computer.
-
We use a fax modem to send faxes using windows' built in fax program. We only use efax for receiving faxes.
-
With the services I've used, you can set it to just send you a notification email. Then you login in to the website to download the fax. We used to get them as email attachments but I decided that was not secure enough.

Super easy. It takes a short while to perform the initial encryption, depending on drive size and speed, but you basically just turn it on and give it a nice long password and you're all set. Make sure you save your recovery key someplace safe.

ATX Estimated tax not matching with IRS

That's why my eservices account is so important to me. When I get a new client I want to make sure everything is as it should be. -
ATX Estimated tax not matching with IRS

I never even considered EFT payments as an option because it just seemed like so much could go wrong. Besides, clients can now schedule estimated payments directly with the IRS. -

Definitely trust the IRS more than clients. -
Exactly. I've been to seminars where I didn't learn a thing and I've been to ones where I learned a lot. I prefer the low cost of online courses, plus I use the course materials for reference materials. Online schooling is the way of the future. Even live seminars should be done online to save travel costs, pollution, spread of the flu, etc., and I've done a few live online seminars. They pop up a 'test' to make sure you're still there. Bathroom breaks need to be timed carefully, though.

I started out with eFax about 13 years ago. We use these services for both our faxes and voice mails. The quality of the voice messages on efax was poor and then they got expensive and started billing me a lot for so-called overages, so I switched to MaxEmail. I loved MaxEmail for many years, but then they sold out to... wait for it... EFAX! I didn't think I would stay with efax but they've kept the price I was paying for MaxEmail and we haven't had any quality problems. Just renewed for another year at $84 for fax and voice mail combined. Not sure what a new user would pay. I can view faxes and listen to voice mail from any device by going to their website. I also download voice mail files to client's folders, when they give me any vital information. We have two lines and even when both are in use, you almost never get a busy signal and can send us a fax or leave a voice message.

IRS eservices wants me to periodically recertify my account
Abby Normal replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
Finally back in! Got my new letter yesterday. For security purposes, every time you log in the IRS sends a text to your cellphone with a code you have to enter, to make sure it's you. Works for me! I have similar two-factor security set up with financial institutions and Google. -
ATX Estimated tax not matching with IRS

Sounds like you rounded to 100 and the tax changed by a small amount, so the estimates changed. Did you print a PDF of the return at the time you created the efile? Did you later recreate the efile? I've had this happen. -
I bought the CPE247 unlimited package on 12/31/17 that gives me unlimited CPE for one year. I've already taken 80 hours and plan on taking at least 40 more before the end of the year.

I use bitlocker. Never had a problem. Can you roll back your windows to the last known good configuration?

McDonald's would install these regardless of the minimum wage. I smell BS. Besides, if your business model depends on poverty level wages, it's not a viable business.
-
Would your answer be different if he paid someone 100 to haul the equipment to the scrapyard and received full price for the goods? Would you take 100 loss or zero gain/loss?
-
I've been doing that since 1996.

No, the percentage is just for vacation rentals with more than 14 days personal use.

Searching the official forum it appears to be a corrupted form issue. Try re-downloading all forms for that client. https://support.cch.com/sfs/solution/14202

I've seen the common workbook listed on form update reports but I have no idea what it is. You need to call support.
